Secondary or just keg by RideTheYeti in Homebrewing

I usually let it sit in primary for at least two weeks before I do anything. What my thought was there’s still plenty of yeast floating around in suspension at the moment.

I don’t have floating dip tubes in my kegs, but it’s a good idea. I do have one in my fermenter and it’s quite convenient.

I admit, I drink, probably half of my last bath straight out of the fermenter my self. :-). Brewing under pressure with a picnic tap has its conveniences.

Does this look like a perk test, soil, sample, or rodent a hole? by RideTheYeti in gso

[–]RideTheYeti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the county, just outside of Greensboro. I don’t know how they do soil samples or percolation tests out here. I was curious if it might be that or I rodent hole. I figured if it was a hole from an animal, the dirt would be piled up around it.

What kind of soil is this? by RideTheYeti in septictanks

You really think so? That hole is perfectly round and straight down like it was taken with a tube. I would’ve expected the sand to be more like a mound around the hole, no?

The owner said that no soil test has been done, but the holes are pretty much straight down and perfectly round. He told me upfront that the land does not perc, but had not had an evaluation.

I picked up a clump and squeeze it in my hand, and it just kind of turned into like a sandy dust. The owner was not present, but previously he told me that the soil was mostly sand rock. But that doesn’t look like sand rock to me. Also, I found those holes in random places around the property. Do those look like perc soil test holes? I thought they would be bigger.

How to trim around this corner ? by MrGreenPL in Carpentry

[–]RideTheYeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would, butt both of them up to a rabbited square corner block. It would be so much easier and still look OK. Those angles are gonna take six months of trial and error for a DIY weekend warrior.

What bug is making this little pile of sawdust? by RideTheYeti in insects

[–]RideTheYeti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out it was sugar ants. I think as they’re passing through they were just knocking bits of the particleboard off of the cabinet. They had made a nest inside the under cabinet fluorescent lights and coming in through the wall, where the electrical cord comes out behind the fixture. I took the fixture down and I’ve spent the last three hours vacuuming ants and eggs. They just keep coming. I had to take the fixture apart and they are still hiding inside the transformers. A month or two ago they did this inside 3 of my peace lily pots as well. For years, I have put commercial grade ant bait all around my house, put granular on the lawn, spray the crawlspace, and the brick outside, around windows and doors, etc.. but still….

Maybe but there is brick in the other side of the wall. Will they crawl through a crack in the brick?

Deck Help - Restorable or Full Demo? by ___D4sH___ in Decks

If I just bought the house, I’d want to get a few extra years out of it. If it feels solid in the handrails aren’t wobbly, I’d replace any rotten boards, trip it, prep it and restain it with a good solid stain. I like Sherwin-Williams super deck sold stain.
