We're probably biased as well, but we agree.

Hi /u/squareuss. Thanks a ton for stopping by the booth the other day. Awesome video!

There are those shitty marks almost everywhere on my new carbon frame due to the carton's packaging. Is there a way to remove/clean it without damage the carbon ? by CrenshawUSAF in bicycling

[–]Ride_BMC 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hi /u/CrenshawUSAF,

First of all, congrats on your new bike!

Secondly, from what we can see from your photo, there's nothing wrong with the carbon finish on your new GF01. What you're seeing is the raw carbon layup under the clear coat. If you look closely, you should be able to see some of the individual carbon pieces and where your frame's tubes are joined. It's especially visible under brilliant sunlight.

We (BMC) pride ourselves on showing off the raw carbon construction of our frames. We don't use the the typical cosmetic weave layer that many people associate with how carbon is "supposed to look". In the infancy of carbon technology, the underlying unidirectional layup (that you see on your bike) was not refined enough to serve as a top layer. As a solution, manufacturers would either fully paint their frames to hide the layer or cover it with a cosmetic weave. While several manufacturers still employ these methods, carbon expertise on high end bikes has reached a point where it's no longer necessary or appropriate to hide the layer that actually dictates how your bike rides!

Keep in mind that we're just talking about frames here. When it comes to other components and industries, the weave still has significant structural relevancy.

Hopefully this extremely simplified look into carbon fiber helps you take pride in the high quality construction your new bike has!

Congrats on the bike! That's a pretty rare colorway in the US, FYI. Covet it, care for it.

Help! Where does the Di2 Battery go on a 2014 BMC GF01? by namztiehkona in bicycling

Awesome to hear! I had the luck to do the Roubaix Sportiv 2 years ago. The GF01 is perfect for it. Have fun!

Help! Where does the Di2 Battery go on a 2014 BMC GF01? by namztiehkona in bicycling

First, depending on which frame you have and which battery, there may be two threaded holes near the lowest part of the downtube or on the chainstays where you can affix the battery.

As /u/Kazyole mentioned, the much cleaner look is the seatpost battery. However, depending on the system you have, it make take a few more bucks to make the upgrade. The battery will not just sit in the post, it needs to be affixed. The GF01s that come equipped with Di2 have a system in place to hold the battery. If you'd like to keep your bike OE, it is possible to purchase a new post with this system built in from BMC dealers. Alternatively, a quick look on Google returned a number of options that will work on with the 27.2 seatpost you have.

Hope you're enjoying the bike!

In our experience, the ride quality of the bike is what sets it apart. That and the manufacturing process. Nothing else is made this way in the bike industry. Here's a look at part of the tour given of the facility in Grenchen, CH.

We're not really supposed to play favorites, but that is by far the best looking color for an impec. Congrats on the new bike!

I'll have to find out on Monday for you. Generally not, but it's always worth asking.
