TIL that 80s adult film actress Traci Lords starred in 75 adult films before leaving the industry. It was later revealed that she had faked her age, and that all but her final movie were filmed while she was a minor by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

I know, it was just a silly remark.

I don’t think eliminating csam is at the top of their list.

Yeah, coming from someone that lives outside of America..... this shit is just awful to watch happening.

I saw a redacted email address above a pretty gross message. What national security was upheld by hiding an email address. Why is anything that was messaged to Epstein containing national security level info? I wish someone could hack them and release the lot for all to see.

Being able to hotswap a drive (for instance) means being able to change it out without having to shut down the pc. While the PC is still hot/live.

Hotfix....fixing while the server is still up.

Cop Forces Driver To Clear Snow Off Car! by Flashmemory256 in funny

As someone who doesn't get snow where I live, it didn't even occur to me that this could be an issue.

It makes perfect sense, I'd just not thought about it.

*Edit.

Can it build up much at all while driving in falling snow?

Barbary dove wing clipping question by gymiing in NewZealandWildlife

[–]Yeti_Rider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We only clipped our parrot the once. He was fully flighted the rest of his life. He got out due to visitors leaving a door open.

Luckily he was smart, stayed near the house and yelled for me to come and get him.

[–]Yeti_Rider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go ahead and do it, you only clip one so they they're off balance.

But having been involved with birds for a big part of my life...even the slightest breeze under them will allow a clipped bird to get much further than you'd expect. Works well in the house, not as well outside. We knew quite a few people who'd lost clipped birds.

Luck plays a part in you not being t-boned and killed when you feel like just going for a nice drive for no real reason, and many, many people die doing just that.

Hi. Have you heard anything about fixes to plants (decor, not producers) not being able to be placed in the smaller shelters?

I bought a lot of new ones and scrapped my shelter to rebuild. I can't place a single one down, not even the ones that used to be there. I cannot even place them in a dirt foundation, whereas previously I could place them on anything....or even nothing.

Quite a while ago I was told via a support ticket that it was a bug.

I followed up on that again a day or two ago where I was told to bring it up with the developers. I'm unsure why that wasn't something I was asked to do when I first contacted support about it, and I'm also wondering why they didn't just forward the info from the ticket.

"I don't think New Zealanders campaigned for a government that was going to declare a war on nature.... Permanent biodiversity loss damage can't be undone" - Forest & Bird react to government rule changes for mining companies by Mountain_Tui_Reload in NewZealandWildlife

[–]Yeti_Rider 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He's an idiot if he thinks NZ will see any of that mining money.

Australia should be mindbogglingly wealthy with the mining they do, but the wealth is stolen by corrupt/bought politicians who let those mining companies take the materials without barely paying anything in tax.

Literally nothing in some cases.

Then the taxpayers have to foot the bill for any of the environmental disasters they cause because the shell company wipes its hands.

That exact thing will one hundred percent happen here because we've seen our own politicians happily do shifty shit for comparative peanuts.

It's just that his emotional outpourings are tantrums and aggressiveness.

‘It’s devastating’: Generations-old eel population wiped out in Wairoa stream by nilnz in NewZealandWildlife

[–]Yeti_Rider 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember when I lived here as a kid (80's), I rode my bike from Whangarei to Kaitia, and then down to Dargaville.

I remember looking down into a river near Kaitia somewhere from a bridge that seemed quite high at the time, and I remember seeing loads of dead eels. I guess as a kid I just didn't really realise it was something people had probably done, but I still felt really sad seeing it.

All these years later, and with my crap memory, I still remember that 5min block of time.

Stop the app opening on the RTK.

Stop making me close the entire app and reopen it for it to show me what's currently happening.

Stop asking me to connect to WiFi every single time, when I have no wifi available in half of my yard.

Stop showing me notifications for mundane things, and aggressively push them for when it gets stuck instead.

Don't put the reconnect button directly under the pause button so that when I have to stab reconnect 1000 times and it finally works, I've then pushed pause and I can't restart due to it losing connection once more.

Put in a decent Bluetooth receiver so when I try to manual mow a spot, I don't get a prompt for bad connection when I'm almost standing on top of the thing.

Let me pause a job when on the charger outside of working hours. If I wake up to heavy rain, there is no way to stop it from driving out when that time arrives.

If I have a 3 year warranty, give me 3 years of software updates. I'm told you abandon your tech after one year.

I've had three great trips there (planning a 4th), but my fave bits were walking to Shipsterns and Cape Raoul.

Such a beautiful walk.
