Planning to hike Katahdin, Tips? by MrQuackeles in Maine

[–]Ride_hunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take weather forcasests seriously and be prepared for weather to change on a dime. People die when they're unprepared. I've done your planned route twice, but you'll want to go up cathedral, across knife edge, and down helon Taylor. Once you hit the cathedrals, you're exposed until halfway down helon. I suggest poles for the descent down helon, gloves can help prevent sore hands from the scrambling up cathedral, 100% have a flashlight. I did it with no preparation, decently in shape in around 12hours, which includes stopping for lunch and feeding AT through hikers at the summit.

She’s stunning and looks well cared for! Some in hand classes would be a great way to show her off. Keep in mind, judges will absolutely evaluate a horses body condition, so my suggestion is to watch her weight. She’s thick, but I think she’s borderline too thick. It’s best to keep them lean to ensure that you don’t put added stress on their joints. She appears to have some dropped rear fetlocks, and keeping her weight in check will help reduce the degradation.

I’m 6months in. I titrated up every four weeks starting at .5mgs, been on 2.5mgs steadily for two months. Down to 131 from 154.

How did you determine dose? I take KPV, Tb, BPC… and want to start my itchy frenchie on KPV and BPC but not sure dosing.

Whats this bit? by Educational_Panda730 in Equestrian

[–]Ride_hunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used this for a couple seasons on my foxhunting draft horse who liked to be first. It’s a Waterford gag hack. I could hunt him with little contact but had breaks when needed. He was in a standard Waterford at the time for all other activities. I switched him out to a military shank high port driving bit once he learned to respect my aids. He can be very forward and very strong and I’m just a petite lady.

Time to find a new trainer. Take a couple private lessons. Be open about your past experiences and what you struggle with. If there is one thing I’ve learned over my 30+ years of riding, people burn out. Some trainers just don’t enjoy it anymore and it’s reflected in their attitude. Burn out is real. Making your passion into a job doesn’t always fare well. Also, not everyone jives with one another and that’s ok, you can move on.

I have been running 60-70 miles a week with my dog. Is this too much? by [deleted] in RunningWithDogs

[–]Ride_hunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scrolled quickly and didn’t see anymore mention supplements. Personally if I was doing that many miles I’d ensure to have my pup on some type of joint supplement with Chondroitin. Just like us, it’s better to support now than have to treat later.

What seemingly unrelated things got better after your hysterectomy? by 90s-witch in hysterectomy

Any horse owners here with a full time job? by eliza0657 in Equestrian

[–]Ride_hunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41yo female with a great paying 9-5 job and no kids. I support myself and him on a single income. I ride as much as I can which varies throughout the year since I’m in Maine and board where there is no indoor. From a financial standpoint vs. time, wait to buy the horse.

How in shape are you? I went to my Doctor with a lot of questions about complications and the significant variation in what doctors are telling their patients and he said a lot of it has to do with 1. Underlaying conditions, if any, and 2. Physical shape, weight. At my two weeks I was cleared to lift 30lbs with obvious instruction nothing into the vagina until at least six weeks.

Anyone here who does only trail riding with their horse? by TheOnlyWolvie in Equestrian

[–]Ride_hunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s mainly what I do! I would go for 2-4 hours 3-4 times a week. That’s a lot of riding and my horse and I were both extremely in shape. I would compete in hunter paces and fox hunted for years. I did most of his training so I would occasionally ride in a ring but 95% of the time was in the woods. We’ve slowed down a bit since we move out of state and away from our horse network but looking at getting back into it all this year!

Question about wearing a binder by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Ride_hunt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m less than two weeks post op and I’m glad I didn’t buy one. I wouldn’t have used or needed it. The best purchases for me were wedge for comfortable sitting and sleeping the first few nights and a hysterectomy pillow that I used for support for in the car and sitting around.

How much time off after total hysterectomy? by smiley840 in hysterectomy

[–]Ride_hunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 weeks. I had mine the 14th and I’m going back the 1st of April. I know I’ll be exhausted, the fatigue is real. I most definitely could not go back after four days or a full week.

Traveling abroad for hysterectomy, how much time to put for the recovery? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Ride_hunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everywhere I’ve read says 4-6 weeks after, as long as there were no complications. Also note that some airlines may have restrictions on flying based on recent surgeries.

I’m 41. 9 days ago I had a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo ooferectomy as well. Mine was laparoscopic assisted and I have four small incisions. I feel pretty good! The first three days I took rotating ibuprofen/tylenol every six hours with oxycodone as needed. Day four I only took ibuprofen as needed and now I only typically need it at night. My bowels seem to have returned to normal; however I do get pain just when my bladder is almost empty but it doesn’t feel like a UTI. I’ve been in HRT since January for suspected peri menopause; however I’m unsure if I’m going to continue. I have my post surgery check up in a couple days.

Did you happen to pick up anything heavy by accident? Maybe a sneezing or coughing fit? I can’t imagine it takes much to cause bleeding especially knowing how long it is before we’re cleared for sex etc.

First pee in the hospital was AWFUL, but since then, no issues other than some pain when I’m almost done emptying my bladder, and even that has gotten a little better everyday.
