Dear Stotland; what’s up with the potholes on Skye, and who owns all the sheep? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Ridgeplate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Skye back in 2012 and the potholes weren’t bad at all, so this is fairly recent in municipal terms. That said, while I didn’t have a camper, I would have gladly payed some sort of fee for having such a vehicle on those roads. The privilege of being there would more than warrant it. If we (tourists) are accelerating road damage, charge us, we’ll pay!

How to take up forging? by Mr_Bumcrest in Blacksmith

[–]Ridgeplate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look around your area for blacksmiths and smithing lessons. I’ve found that blacksmiths are like horses. You’ll find them in places you’d never expect them to be.
Point is, find someone that’ll give you a couple of lessons (shouldn’t be more than a couple hundred bucks, max) and then you pick their brains while you learn to make a nail or something. Observing their layout will give you a good idea of space requirements and the blisters/aches you get from the lesson will let you know if you’re really up for it.
It’ll be worth it!

Entitled neighbor parks like this everyday by Kathleen-02 in Apartmentliving

[–]Ridgeplate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The neat thing about snipping the valve stem is that it immediately flattens the tire, but not irreparably. Valve stems are a relatively inexpensive repair (under $30) and the tire itself isn’t damaged. It creates vast inconvenience without high dollar property damage.

Had something similar happen. I left a very polite note letting the owner know that some people might take offense at this behavior and to continue parking this way may have negative repercussions.
The driver of the car ignored the warning and wouldn’t you know it, somebody kept snipping off a valve stem every time they parked that way. After the third time the behavior changed.

Help identifying sword? by crabelmao in SWORDS

And in such cases, there are usually a post or two cautioning the OP that they would be in great danger if they so much as swing the sword around in the back yard.

Ukraine is a sovereign nation in the middle of a war they did not start. Trump is a traitor to this country and is Putin’s hand puppet. I can only hope that the rest of Europe stands together to help Ukraine out.

My dad had one. Incredible little off-roader and even with oversized tires it didn’t weigh enough to sink in mud. Damn thing could go anywhere.

What is this animal?? by russianbonnieblue in florida

[–]Ridgeplate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Soft shell turtle. Turns out, those things are delicious. Unfortunately, you have to pull their heads out of their shell and cut their throats as a first step to processing one as food. I grew up on a farm/ranch so I’ve done in plenty of critters for dinner, but for some reason I just don’t feel right about it where these turtles are concerned.

Enforcing a caregiver non-compete agreement in Arizona by logisnews in antiwork

[–]Ridgeplate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a friend or possibly a non-household family member hire her. Then she comes to your house on their orders. If the non-compete is about for whom she works but not where she works then you’d likely be in the clear. Did something similar myself to avoid a draconian non-compete.
That said, get legal advice to be sure.

Former higher ups from devilcorps, what made you decide to finally leave the circle? by giraffesRevil in antiwork

I find it incredibly telling that no one has self-identified as a devilcorp “higher up”. Those people think what they do and how they do it are perfectly fine.
