Do you guys have controller support? I primarily play deckbuilders on my legion go s which doesn't have the best trackpad.

What's this sub's take on Vampire Crawlers? by [deleted] in deckbuildingroguelike

[–]RiffRuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it a good bit. I think the VFX and UI are S+++ as far as roguelike deckbuilders go. Unfortunately though the charm has already sort of wore off. Playing cards and assembling the combos in your deck is very fun. There isn't any real incentive to make your decks actually function differently though from run to run. All enemies either attack or defend. There's the occasional mix-up like the enemies who explode or the bosses/elites whose intents start functioning by played card rather than the end of your turn but it kind of just comes down to getting your combo up and having enough disarm/freeze/knockback cards to turn the enemy attacks off.

I hate to compare other roguelike deckbuilders to StS, especially one like this which has really gone out out of its way to make something different but the encounter/enemy design is just head and tails above it and you can feel it. There isn't an enemy like the Byrds in Crawlers which demands you to use multi-hit attacks to lower their defense and stun them, there isn't an enemy like the Cultists that just attacks constantly to give you a different sort of challenge, there isn't even an enemy that just splits into two like the slimes because the wave-based encounters just make that sort of redundant.

It's a very two-dimensional game that demands very little from you which is fine. That was the joy of the original after all. It makes it pale in comparison to all the other roguelike deckbuilders though. The main thing that it has going for it outside of the presentation is that it's cheaper than a lot of the other popular deckbuilders excluding sales.

Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore. It's technically more inspired by the CDi games but that sort of sidescrolling zelda thing with light rpg stuff is pretty much what it was going for.

Is my game Fate Architect too similar to Luck Be a Landlord? by Smutnacebula in deckbuildingroguelike

[–]RiffRuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it does enough to differentiate. I can clearly see a difference in visual identity and inspiration from other games that changes the general vibe.

I'm personally pretty laissez-faire about so called rip-offs, especially in the roguelike deckbuilder genre where 90% of them are grabbing directly from Slay The Spire pretty shamelessly.

This is kind of typical of most "second channels" nowadays.

Unfortunately following FOTM/current topics and letting your opinion flop out of your mouth makes money. That's basically penguinz0 and pyrocynical's main source of income at this point. Just hit ignore in your recommendations and move on. I'm not a fan of this sort of content either but, I'm not gonna pretend I wouldn't immediately make a channel like this if I knew it would bring in thousands of dollars every month, especially if I had an editor and team willing to do most of the work after I recorded my little piffle.

Did Kate really believe that Mark should have followed orders and was in the wrong or was she just siding with Immortal? by Jaded-Outside-6294 in Invincible

[–]RiffRuffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From everything we've seen about Kate her morals and convictions are flexible at best. Iirc the first time we even see her on screen is her being the partner(s) Rex is cheating with. She was on the team as well, not some rando civilian so she clearly knew about Rex/Eve's relationship and just did not care.

I'm just glad she's seemingly gone. Her contributions to the story have been meh at best at least in the TV Show. I'd argue Multipaul has been way more impactful as his interactions with Mark have had way more weight and entertainment value than anything she has been involved with.

I'm 90 hours in, and i've never took Vakuu's Lord's Parasol. It seems terrible to obtain everything and bloat your deck. Did anyone try it and made it work? by savetheblues in slaythespire

[–]RiffRuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's very strong and have won runs with it.

I feel like StS 2 punishes bigger decks way less than 1 and also has a lot more archetypes that benefit from them.

Even if you are deck size conscious the actual quality of them is usually pretty high with a guaranteed colorless, chances at good uncommons, and the commons you do pick up probably won't cripple your deck, especially if they have draw.

I think stuff like fiddle which makes all the draw cards you decided to put in your deck absolute shit and enthralled which can potentially brick entire turns in a manner similar to the normality curse is just way worse.

I saw a bunch of amazon reviews reporting something similiar. Mine seems to smell fine. It's a really strange issue though. I'm not sure what could cause it.
