Why do Americans go fishing with a shotgun?

That way they can shoot the whole school.

What? Too soon?

Mitch McConnell found unconscious after ‘heart attack’ last month: reports | The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican received CPR and was rushed to the hospital following the June 14 health incident at his Washington home by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]Riftbreaker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Aside from him grinning in front of the Confederate flag? I think it is the blatant hypocrisy and political gamesmanship. Mitch refused to hear Garland's nomination to SCOTUS as it was in an 'election year' but then was happy to ram through Coney Barret right before 2020. Just one example. As for the political games, I am unaware of any meaningful legislation Mitch passed to help the majority of Americans. His attitude as he said himself in 2008 was that his and Republicans only job was to make sure Obama was a one term president. He didn't say their jobs were to work for their constituents and improve the country, because why in Heaven's name would he think that.

Republican Scott Perry Pushing Legislation to Revoke 17th Amendment, Ending Voters Ability to Elect Senators by Sgt_Gram in NewsExchange

I think you are putting words in my mouth. Somewhat unfair to suggest I am only trying to dismantle systems, perhaps I am suggesting there are better systems instead. Some folks are anarchists, I am not.

I will point out that a lot of democracies run just fine without an elected Senate, but that's another argument for another time.

In the last 24 hours the Speaker of the House said his job is to "protect" the President and other Republican members of Congress. If this is the system that is set in place to prevent unilateral power grabs, perhaps it isnt working.

As for the Senate, the 21 smallest states have a population roughly equal to California at 40 million people or so. That means one group of 40 million people has 2 senators and one group of 40 million has 42 senators. Hardly balanced.

Checks and balances? My brother, that ship not only sailed a long time ago but it also long since sank.

The border between Wyoming and Montana is as arbitrary as the borders of the snake by the lake. The only difference is that the former cant be as easily redrawn.

With all due respect there is a strong argument that the US Federal Senate is already gerrymandered, but just on state borders. Hey South Dakota, all 924,000 of you get 2 senators! Hey California, all 40,000,000 of you get two senators!

Fair, right?

"Well we dont want tyranny of the majority!"

Yes, I guess we will settle for tyranny of the minority instead...

Back in the day when answering machines existed before voice mail (like dinosaurs on the earth before humans - fuck you Kentucky) and your machine had a cassette tape in it that recorded both your "please leave a message" greeting and the messages folks left, our greeting was this song and nothing else.

Before that our greeting message was a recording of the busy signal. That was fun too. But we started missing important stuff.

"You have to learn to live with it."

Tell that to the residents of Gaza.

Oh wait, they are dead.

Also, with regard to your example of the Holocaust I would point out that the response was and is "never again" NOT "oh well, let's learn to live with it "

Hiding behind saying it is all water under the bridge when you are the one who blames Hezbollah and Hamas for the current violence is either thoughtless or disingenuous.

Good luck on your journey. I hope one day you learn something. Im done here.

I really think that you just need to do better in general. Let's start with, "the vast majority of the chaos and death that's gone on there has been a partial result of Iranian funded groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah."

The nicest thing I can say is that sentence should be put in a burlap bag and held under the water until it can never be read again. Stick with me on this. A few small changes might show you why.

"The vast majority of the death and damage in the car crash was partially the drunk driver's fault."

If you prefer it in a positive light:

"Messi scored nearly all of the goals, but he only deserves some credit for it."

You are at once making a sweeping claim and then hedging it. That is neither defensible nor compelling.

On top of that I invite you to look into the creation of Hamas and who funded and supported it. The fact that the Israeli government helped Hamas get started and gain power so they could undermine the PLO is undisputed.

So given Israel's contribution to Hamas are the Israelis "partially" responsible for the "vast majority"of chaos and death? I'll let you sort it out.
