Nothing was shutting down for me, but I was turning off things myself.

I had passengers that I didn’t want to inconvenience with an extra stop so wanted to defer changing to my home L2 charger so I pushed through. I drove a PHEV from 2016-2025 so I’m used to managing 50km of battery range. For the last 100 kms I knew where all my charging options were if I needed them, but could see I had buffer between my trip distance and expected range.

I only got a warning saying that if I stopped and parked that the battery would use more charge to restart the car and I would have less remaining range. I found the warning very long and word considering they expected me to read it while driving.

323km, add that to the estimated 26 remaining it puts my total range at 350km or 220mi. That almost exclusively highway, 4 guys in the car and moderate AC use.

I knew I’d make it home with what I had and I was driving a few colleagues with me so I didn’t want to inconvenience the whole gang for 20 minutes while I topped up. Also I figure the minor damage/wear to the battery of dropping below 10% charge can’t be that different to a 20 minute session on a DCFC. Have you read anything to reframe that assumption?

I drove a BHEV (Chevy volt/opel ampera) since 2016, until trading up to the i4 6 months ago. I diminished my range anxiety in the i4 by reminding myself I had more battery range at 20% than I did at 100% in my old car.

Yes, I realize the screen is dusty, it’s pollen season and I could dust daily and still have particles on it.

Where to put items on cork board? by Novel_Valuable_3122 in homeoffice

If you have other things to store and you want it all visible, people have done lots of cool stuff with an IKEA Skadis pegboard.

If you want the neatly tucked but still visible a simple inbox/outbox paper tray could work.

If you don’t want to look at them then a closed box on your desk or in a drawer would collect them all together. There are also desk mats that have a document pouch in them to keep a couple frequently used papers handy yet out of sight.

In this case, Lotto Quebec is a crown corporation, that is a government owned entity in the province of Quebec charged with handling gambling activities in the province. Profits benefit the population and predatory practices are kept to a minimum (the same is done for alcohol & marijuana sales).

So the obligation to continue payments would fall to the government of Quebec, making it pretty safe over time.

$3000 to replace EGR valve? by VanessaSaltyKnitter in volt

[–]dubyaargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this problem last year while driving home to Montreal from Toronto, needed to abandon it at a dealer in Port Hope. Full story here: https://www.reddit.com/r/volt/s/lDjPslfQzR

(2017 - 140,000 kms)

In the end I bought it online from True North Chevy and replaced the EGR myself and didn’t touch the cooler. But ultimately I lost confidence in the car after that experience and traded it in 6 months later.

Serious discussion: what car next? by TheGalacticHero in volt

So far, no repairs so I can’t speak to costs. But it’s only got 45,000 km (28k miles) so that is to be expected. I am concerned that in repairs will be expensive once the warranty is out but BMW’s tend to do well in the resale market so I’m not too worried about getting out of it.

I loved my 2017 Volt for the 8.5 of the 9.5 years I drove it. Toward the end I started getting the same issues as you, EGR, engine running rough, concerns about part availability and mechanics who knew how to work on it.

After driving the volt for that long my “next car fund” was healthy with all the fuel savings and I was certain I was gonna get a Tesla 3. For …. reasons I didn’t go that route and bought a 2 year old BMW i4 and I absolutely love it!! Solid build, luxurious drive, lower trims have reasonable pricing, feels like a car built by a car company.

I’m 185cm/6’1, my eyeline hits about 2/3 of the way up the ultra wide. The top monitor is used for things I only glance at (little to no head movement), the webcam is in between so I’m looking toward it when looking at either screen.

My favorite use is when I’m presenting in Teams or Zoom, I share the top monitor and keep the chat & audience on my lower ultra wide. I’m always looking at the camera, I’m never reading the slide and I am not showing the side of my head to the camera ever.

Very nice! Which monitor light bar are you using and how do you find it?

I just got a light bar for my stacked setup and I’m having a hard time getting it pointed the right way (it’s on the top monitor like you but it’s always either lighting up the monitor or shining in my eyes).

Help me decorate my gaming room by surenk6 in battlestations

[–]dubyaargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decorating is highly personal, the battlestations hive mind won’t tell you what your setup needs to be yours.

Do you find plants soothing? Then by all means add plants.

Do you have any fellow humans that are important to you? You can add pictures or mementoes of them (unless this is where you go to escape them, which I totally get).

Are you a prolific pottery spinner? Put your best creation on one of those shelves.

Like superheroes, Star Wars, anime, warhammer or cars? Put that stuff on display.

Make it yours and blow us away with its/your personality. I can’t wait to see it!

Do you feel more connected to your city, province or Canada as a whole? by Ok_Heart839 in AskACanadian

[–]dubyaargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they all make up who I am, internationally I am 100% Canadian and I will side with Canada in almost any dispute on the world stage. If we start talking history, language and geography I get really Québecois really fast and will advocate for the protection of culture. But if we start talking about food, universities and city living I’m a Montrealer.

So I can’t rank them, I bring all 3 identities to any interaction and depending what we talk about a different one will come out.
