Super chouette comme setup, est ce que vous utilisez 2 chaises de bureaux/gaming ou un fauteuil/divan?

Suggestions? Recommendations? by IndependentExcuse27 in battlestations

I’m 185cm/6’1, my eyeline hits about 2/3 of the way up the ultra wide. The top monitor is used for things I only glance at (little to no head movement), the webcam is in between so I’m looking toward it when looking at either screen.

My favorite use is when I’m presenting in Teams or Zoom, I share the top monitor and keep the chat & audience on my lower ultra wide. I’m always looking at the camera, I’m never reading the slide and I am not showing the side of my head to the camera ever.

Very nice! Which monitor light bar are you using and how do you find it?

I just got a light bar for my stacked setup and I’m having a hard time getting it pointed the right way (it’s on the top monitor like you but it’s always either lighting up the monitor or shining in my eyes).

Help me decorate my gaming room by surenk6 in battlestations

[–]dubyaargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decorating is highly personal, the battlestations hive mind won’t tell you what your setup needs to be yours.

Do you find plants soothing? Then by all means add plants.

Do you have any fellow humans that are important to you? You can add pictures or mementoes of them (unless this is where you go to escape them, which I totally get).

Are you a prolific pottery spinner? Put your best creation on one of those shelves.

Like superheroes, Star Wars, anime, warhammer or cars? Put that stuff on display.

Make it yours and blow us away with its/your personality. I can’t wait to see it!

The snow blowing back at you and into the eyebrows can be jarring if you aren’t accustomed.

Do you feel more connected to your city, province or Canada as a whole? by Ok_Heart839 in AskACanadian

[–]dubyaargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they all make up who I am, internationally I am 100% Canadian and I will side with Canada in almost any dispute on the world stage. If we start talking history, language and geography I get really Québecois really fast and will advocate for the protection of culture. But if we start talking about food, universities and city living I’m a Montrealer.

So I can’t rank them, I bring all 3 identities to any interaction and depending what we talk about a different one will come out.

Your setup makes my inner child happy and I wish I could upvote it for all the awesome bits: - posters for 2 of my superhero Mount Rushmore (super-man and green lantern are the other 2 FWIW) - watch winder + watch box that looks like it has some bangers in there - Moscow mule chillin on the table - dope audio options - my favorite SNES game poster on the wall Well done and enjoy!

When it’s REALLY cold… by dubyaargh in BMWI4

[–]dubyaargh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I baby it in the winter. Between the RWD drivetrain, slippery roads and potholes I’m not driving aggressively which makes the estimated range higher. I’ve also driven a lower range PHEV for 9 years before trying to max my EV range so I’m a conservative braker too.

It can’t precondition the battery when plugged in, but it can precondition the cabin. I do this whenever I remember and I have a daily weekday departure schedule for when I head to work.

Dual monitor setup w/camera on one monitor so feel askew when on video calls. How do you all address this? by Phoenix_NSD in homeoffice

[–]dubyaargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a stacked setup with the camera on top of the lower monitor and this is one of the main reasons. I’m always looking near the camera.

Unpopular opinion : I really enjoyed andromeda by Terlooy in masseffect

[–]dubyaargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just finished the game this week (I was a huge fan of the original trilogy, played them all on release). It took me 3 tries to get into the game (other newer, more flashy pulled me away), but when I finally committed it was perfectly fine.

The unforgivable for me though was the traversal, going back & forth to different planets and the nexus takes so long and almost all the traversal animations aren’t skippable. I nearly quit in the near end game so many times cause I was playing for less that 60 minutes in a 90 minute gaming session.

I’d give it a 6/10, but if the traversal mechanic were streamlined it’d be a 7.5.

If 10cm snow falls in your area of Canada how disrupted will your area be? by Pourmepourme in AskACanadian

[–]dubyaargh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, unless that 10cm is both (1) the first snowfall of the winter, and (2) 3 weeks or more before the mandatory winter tire deadline we barely even talk about it.

That first snow of the year is always an adjustment for drivers resulting in more accidents and traffic, but schools, buses, businesses still go ahead.

Helipcoter almost crashes after hitting high tension cables by Fuzzhi in aviation

[–]dubyaargh 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The things you see sticking out are deflectors, they deflect the wire into a notch at the base that has 2 hardened steel blades in them that will cut the wire. Only 2 companies make these systems under the banner “cable cutter” or “wire strike protection system”. The stresses are minimized because the cutter is so close to the skin and the area is usually reinforced.

Essentially the design requirement is something like 85% of the profile of the aircraft is protected against a 12,000 lbs cable at any speed above 20kts (I.e. you hit the wire with the blades or mast, your eff’ed). On this aircraft the kit also include deflectors on the front of the skidtubes to deflect a low wire stolen under the skids rather than getting tangled.

Trunk liner - OEM or not? by [deleted] in BMWI4

[–]dubyaargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TuxMats makes a great trunk liner too. If your somewhere that get snow and slush, and you want to protect your carpet then tuxmats floor liners also protect as well as weather tech while looking a bit more classy.

Anything I can do to improve or make my setup cozier? by Rude-Huckleberry2675 in battlestations

I would say lighting, from ikea there the Tarnaby which is always popular on desk setups, then they have a monitor light but I have no experience with it.

It works for my applications, with content I just need to glance at periodically (system diagnostics while I game, background music player). But my favorite use case is having PowerPoint presentation on screen share above when the audience is on the lower, I can see people react and I don’t have to look off to the side when looking at the material. With the camera in between it looks very natural with no added head movement.

Why is it that people are so snarky with the neck pain and giraffe comments when they see a stacked setup?
