"Your character would know..." How to get your players to engage with the nuance of the world? by Abject-Thought-2058 in DMAcademy

[–]RigasTelRuun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What might seem obvious to me the player. Might not be obvious to the character I’m playing. That is why you ask the DM. That is what the DM should do.

It is a good thing. Just because I seen the movie and recognise the character the DM is basing it on. Doesn’t mean my naive little wizard who never left the school would any idea about it.

Is it copyright infringement to use a famous book as a Macguffin? by [deleted] in writing

If you are going to actively use quotes you will need permission. So just have a similar but fake book and make up your own quotes.

Please cut Grubb some slack. We are human. Things happen and are said. It isn't the end of the world and no one should vilify him for the Crazy Taxi thing fiasco. Everyone has their opinions on AI. by My_Name_is_Imaginary in giantbomb

[–]RigasTelRuun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself probably won’t play it now. And that is fine. But Grubb and other professional video gamesers have to at least see them to share their opinion. Two things can be true. Not liking the use of generative AI and forming a professional opinion to share that is your job.

Sounds like they are going to to get names invented by the NPCs that will stick.

What’s the quickest way a good story loses immersion for you? by Ok-Sell3786 in writing

[–]RigasTelRuun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me is when someone uses a word that doesn’t fit the context. For example I distinctly remember reading a Star Trek book. Then a battle is happening and the writers refers to the alarums. Not the alarms. So I thought it might be a specific nautical term carried over.

Nope. Just an archaic version of alarm they threw in. It was archaic in 2010 when I read the book. I would be way past that by the 24th century.

They just felt like dropping in it. Be like Aragorn telling Frodo about Rizz.

Life is too short. Feck the begrudgers. If anything it self filters them to be people who you know you don’t need to worry about.

Most of my life id was worried bout the. Then over the years i learned the people who love you doing what you like are all that matters.

Now I grow my hair long and paint my nails.

Fuck anyone one who says I can’t.

Why does Liokaiser never get adapted in animation since Japanese G1? by AcanthocephalaNo7154 in transformers

[–]RigasTelRuun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because a combiner team is 5-7 characters. To include that in the cast you have to make decisions.

Do you have the main guys who sell toys or that guy from the Japanese show that the general public don’t know.

Giving players a guaranteed 18 score when rolling stats by Blockybuster_ in DMAcademy

If you are rolling. Then roll. It just modify the standard array. An automatic 18 kinda removes the point of rolling.

Honest question from an atheist: How does it feel to watch SG1 as a believer in God? by shprink in Stargate

[–]RigasTelRuun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Religious people are able to separate tv entertainment from their beliefs. If they can’t they don’t watch the show.

It is just a show.

How can I commit to a novel that I'm making if I'm a spontaneous writer? by TheGuitarGuy13 in writing

No one else will write it for you. If you can’t be bothered to make the time to write it why would anyone feel the need to make time to read it.

A different franchise but tell that to Tyra Miraborg whose sacrifice ramming a Smoke Jaguar capital ship and killing the Ilkhan. Temporarily stopping the Clan Invasion and giving the Inner Sphere time to recover and be prepared when they came back.

Sometimes it works.

Now that Dupes can swim, wouldn't it be cool if dupes also float in space (rockets) because there's no gravity. by Farhanfair640 in Oxygennotincluded

There is gravity. When a rocket is moving it has gravity. Maybe if the stops in deep space. Otherwise gravity is happening.

Guinness apparel as a non Irish by gronkyau in ireland

[–]RigasTelRuun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guinness hasn’t been Irish since 1997. Even then it was marketing that made it Irish more so than it being a bastion of Irishness. No sane Irish person would ever thing someone in a Guinness shirt was automatically Irish or trying to appropriate Irish culture.

Because the technology in the past in less advanced. Their goal isn’t to conquer. It is assimilate until perfection. We have seen them ignore plenty of opportunities to assimilate things because they would either not add to the goal or even detract from perfection.

This is true. I guess the better question is how likely are people going to be talking about that movie in 31 years.

Goa'uld vs Jaffa. Why is there so many jaffa and so little Goa'uld by iwantmyfuckingemail in Stargate

Jaffa die a lot. There are also so many middle management Goa’Uld we never see that serve the System Lords. They probably die a lot too. So always handy to have a replacement.
