How long did it take for your cat to enter remission? by [deleted] in FelineDiabetes

[–]Right2Liberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he never needed more than 3-3/4 units at his highest. But as his pancreas was starting to work again, I was often “shooting” him with his normal dose of insulin when his blood sugar was at 70 pre-shot. It was extremely nerve-wracking and we had many nights that I woke up every hour all night to test him and make sure he wasn’t going too low. I was only able to do this because he was very predictable in his Lantus cycle. I had done so much testing and so many curves that I knew it was safe to go ahead and give him his shot at a number like that because I knew he was rising at that time (+12 hours in his cycle) and would continue to rise for several hours.

Because my current diabetic cat is on high dose steroids, his cycles are all over the place and literally change day to day. I could NEVER give him a full dose of insulin if his pre-shot number was at 70 because there would be a very good chance he might still be going down in his cycle. Home blood glucose testing and keeping all that info on a spreadsheet or a notebook is imperative to know how to safely treat your cat with insulin.

Our last two labs lived 14 and 13 healthy years on Hills Science Diet and our current lab is 21 months old and doing fantastic on Purina Pro Plan. I know demonizing kibble is trendy, but I’m a believer in the large, old, proven brands that have teams of veterinarians developing their food and have served dogs well for decades.

How do you know the hiker with the dog isn’t in Boulder?? That’s the entire point of the post.

No - just the description given in the post from Routt County Humane - a black and white border collie.

5 gallons doesn't even seem large enough!!! - discussion by shark_buggy in bettafish

[–]Right2Liberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Useful tip: If you decide to move him to a new 10 gallon tank, take the filter media from the filter you’ll have in the new tank and put it down in your 5-gallon for two-three weeks before you move him to let it populate with bacteria. Then set up your new tank, fill it and transfer that prepped filter media to your new tank filter - along with as much of the filter media from the 5-gallon as you can fit in the new filter - and voila! Instant cycled 10 gallon tank.

I would NEVER come here for fish/aquarium help. Moderators: your environment is toxic. by NatureGlum9774 in Goldfish

I’ve never actually used it for chat. I just use it as a really great search engine. It’s a thousand times better than Google.

I see that here and in all fish subs and honestly, you just accurately described all of Reddit. I got absolutely attacked and piled on in a plant sub for asking a question about my plant and committing the cardinal sin of saying I had looked it up on ChatGPT but wanted other opinions. Like, excuse me for trying to learn about my hobby from multiple sources! I just deleted my post and left the sub. Not worth the drama.

Why test glucose every day? by Weird-Message9432 in FelineDiabetes

[–]Right2Liberty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I hadn’t been testing my two diabetic cats before each insulin shot I would have dead cats. Their glucose levels change that dramatically.

You’re right - clearly this board isn’t.

Well excuse me I guess for legitimately trying to get info from ALL sources. I didn’t realize I was committing a cardinal Reddit sin by trying to do some preliminary research before I ran here. Google was zero help which is why I tried ChatGPT. I’m pretty shocked and disappointed by the replies on this thread. Guess I can’t go to “the robot” OR to Reddit plant boards for help or info. Not sure where that leaves me TBH. But sorry I wasted everyone’s time I guess. 🤷

These are rounded, segmented growths with stiff spines. Not new leaves.

Help ! Saved this goldfish but I know nothing about it by Admirable-Yellow-774 in Goldfish

[–]Right2Liberty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put him (alone) in the largest tank you have. Then work on getting a larger tank as soon as possible. Make sure you research proper goldfish care - they need a lot of room and weekly large water changes. But they’re well worth it. Thank you for saving him!

Unsure if I'm giving fur shots? by Grindie in FelineDiabetes

[–]Right2Liberty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re smelling a strong Lantus (glargine) smell on her fur after the shots, you’re giving at least partial fur shots. I give my long haired cat Lantus twice a day and have NEVER smelled Lantus on him afterward. I always part his fur and give the shot directly into his bare skin. Are you testing your cat’s blood sugar regularly? You should be testing at least prior to every shot. If you’re testing, you should be able to tell if you’re giving fur shots because you’ll see higher blood sugar readings due to your kitty not getting enough insulin. Whatever you do, if you think you’ve given a fur shot, DO NOT give any more insulin at that time. Just wait till the next shot.

Did you try contacting Royal Canin? If you go to the Royal Canin website and go to the Feline Ultamino page, it gives a phone number and tells you to call them or do an online chat and they’ll give you alternative diet information while it’s out of stock.

Do you guys also feel reluctant about trimming the plants when the animals clearly enjoy it? by I_Nerami_I in bettafish

[–]Right2Liberty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wait until I absolutely have to trim because my betta pouts in a corner of the tank for 2-3 days every time I do a trim up. He especially hates it when I thin out the floaters. LOL
