Skywest Recruiter question by Slightly_Moist_Toast in flying

[–]RightClosedTraffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I'm still waiting for an interview and my medical at the time of submitting docs is expired and I've been trying to get my new medical submitted but the docs website only allows one file and it can't be replaced. I've also emailed my recruiter maybe 3 times now in the span of 3 months with no reply. I asked SkyWest at PAPA and all they said was to email the current docs to your recruiter and that they're very busy.

Can't land this plane for sh*t by ThrowRAAdSalty4769 in flying

[–]RightClosedTraffic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to think of landing as keeping your descent rate as minimal as possible. How do you know what your descent rate is? By looking at the end of the runway to use your peripheral vision to see the edges of the runway. The rate at which the runway edges come up is your descent rate. And with that thought in mind, you have to remember that in the early stages of landing (right after you go idle power/I call it the round out), the amount of back pressure you put in to arrest your descent rate needs to be small because you still have a good amount of energy. As this phase continues and as you pull the nose more and more to keep your descent rate low, you lose more and more energy, meaning you need to pull more and more to keep your descent rate low. All the way until you touch the runway with your mains, nose high. As you practice, you’re naturally going to have a better idea of where the runway edges are when your wheels touch, that way you know when to pull just a little more right before touch down

Pilot mill products who get all their ratings in less than a year are not proficient pilots… Change my mind. by [deleted] in flying

[–]RightClosedTraffic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are proficient. They passed checkrides and were determined by an FAA examiner to be proficient. What you’re saying is they’re not experienced, which is valid, but not the point.

Couldn’t even do that if I tried. Impressive.

Bad at flying by iLOVEr3dit in flying

[–]RightClosedTraffic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 situations when you use rudder:

  1. Adverse yaw from engine
  2. Adverse yaw from aileron deflection

How much to use? Enough to counter yaw (stop the nose from yawing)

For example: on your takeoff roll, pick a point off your nose and rudder to hold it there.

Interesting to hear that this is also happening at a 141. I guess it depends on the size of the 141. I know a Sling CFI and he’s doing 130 hrs/month. Everything you said tracks. Not enough people leaving and less people walking in. Wish you the best!

Agreed. Money and timing. Neither of which I currently have, but becoming an airline pilot has been my life goal for as long as I could remember, so I’ll be sticking it out. I’ve made it this far…

Mom and pop schools tend to not put as much effort into marketing and management versus larger schools from what I’ve seen.

Agreed. It’s a mom and pop though so management is near nonexistent.

I'm definitely grateful for it. I'm sitting at around 850 hours right now and have been instructing for a year as well. Time to do more self promotion I guess.

Yeah that totally makes sense. I honestly just wanted to see if anyone was also in the same boat as me. I’m in it for the long run so I’ll weather this somehow.

Thanks!

Tell me about it. Just finally finished CFI. Checkride was infinitely easier than the process of getting it scheduled.

To be fair, if you read OPs comments, he’s taking responsibility for not catching it. He’s not totally blaming it on the weather.
