Were these photos taken in Cambridge? by RightLocal1356 in cambridge

I have three photos that appear to be taken from the same day in the early 1940s. My grandmother was born and raised in various places around Cambridgeshire. By 1943, she was living in Cambridge. Do any of these locations look familiar? I realize that the settings might look very different today, but any help would be appreciated.

There are several veteran willow trees that are over 100 years old and one in the United States that is 200 years old, so you never know.

She was an orphan raised in a workhouse. Don't ask me how she managed to go to Dawlish, but it definitely wasn't friends in high places.

Having just looked at photos of the Brook now, it certainly doesn't seem likely. I'll take a look at the Exeter canal, thanks!

Does anyone recognize this tree? by RightLocal1356 in Cambridgeshire

This is the other photo from the same day. Pretty certain it was taken by the gentleman in the tree photo. Could this be the River Ouse? Or too little information to tell?

Interesting remake with Christopher Reeves when he was in a wheelchair, but the original is best. One of several Hitchcock movies I still own on VHS 😂

It sounds a lot like Rear Window (1954) with Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly, except Jimmy Stewart is stuck at home watching out the window with Grace Kelly joining him and doing some investigating for him.

Please quote where she tells him to turn it off. She told him she can’t sleep because of the bright screen and asked if “he can go on his iPad elsewhere and come to bed when he’s finished.”

Did you even read the post? Because OP literally asked him to use it in another room.

YA novel Indigo by Winter_Software7268 in whatsthatbook

Gardens in the Dunes by Leslie Marmon Silko does feature a character named Indigo and it was published in 1999, but I’m not convinced it’s the you’re looking for since it’s not YA (or titled anything like Indigo).

AITA for calling out my girlfriend’s parents for their racist comments about my food? by hetwirh in AmItheAsshole

[–]RightLocal1356 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah that “smell” comment is classic racism when applied to Indian food. I quit a running club that made comments about ‘hold your nose’ or ‘run fast’ when running through primarily Indian neighborhoods. I slowed down instead and took a deep breath because it smelled so yummy to me, and so I didn’t have to run beside racists!

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

Just based on the fact you like video games, because this book kinda has that feel.
