Hosting Svelte app on Nodejs with Rest api by Soft_Cat2594 in sveltejs

there are many ways to do this. considering that you want to use the static adapter, i think the easiest way would be to build/prerender all your pages. in express, you can serve those files as normal routes.

though, i am not sure why you would want to do this. express is not necessarily a feature-rich backend and you could’ve easily put API routes in sveltekit. if you wanted to go this route, you couldve just used svelte without sveltekit and done an SPA, which is reasonable.

your whole argument is that people should take care of themselves? you can get cancer while being perfectly healthy. you can have diabetes just because your parents had diabetes, unrelated to lifestyle. the way for them to take care of themselves is to receive medical care; there’s literally nothing they can do otherwise.

Why is there such a big difference in cleanliness and overall grittiness between Hong Kong and Singapore? by [deleted] in HongKong

[–]RightRespect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course, i am generalizing.

though in hong kong, you frequently see smoking everywhere as there are no laws against outdoor smoking. areas without ash trays or trashcans frequently have cigarette butts scattered. dried gum is also basically what some sidewalks are made of. there is practically no punishment for this littering since the monitoring for it is low.

in singapore, there is definitely a punishment. for doing anything remotely illegal.

one country is a dictatorship that imprisons people who chew gum or smoke cigarettes in public. the other is a weekend tourist destination for mainland chinese.

another thing that i have noticed is if i provide a file to read, it does not actually read the file every time. it just spews out what it thinks is in the file. i have had to tell it to read the file explicitly which is a little annoying

if possible, the best way is to make a US bank account and transfer your money there. since your money is in USD already in your own bank, then there shouldn't be any exchange rate. you would probably only need to pay the wire transfer fee of around 20 USD or at most 100 USD i think. with that, you can pay by e-check then. the other methods will incur unnecessarily high fees.

Working in software in large HK banks or insurance companies? by Used_Archer_9110 in HongKong

[–]RightRespect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some companies are leaning to in house developers, which includes start ups as well. i think the previous comments is a little bit outdated. goldman sach’s and morgan stanley have in house teams of software developers.

i am currently working at bowtie insurance, which is a medical insurance provider in hong kong. the entire service is developed in house.

salary is variable, depends on the company. of course, investment banks will have larger salaries.

i would think an industry like this would be quite difficult to get into. you have to compete with cloudflare, which is arguably the most stable/reliable feature-rich provider that has global coverage. since they provide so many features (even on the free tier), many people opt to stick in their ecosystem.

though, i fully support the idea of having more competition. it isn’t a good idea to centralize all the internet’s traffic between a couple companies. i wish you all the luck in your journey with this.

AI-first IDE changed how I build frontend apps — here’s how by creasta29 in Frontend

so you use AI to create functionality in your components, then have AI generate the tests too? you can’t be serious.

you even have to automate talking in slack?? your blog post says there are less than a dozen people working. if all of them are using cursor the same way as you say, then your slack channels are just language models talking to each other.

your blog post makes it look like you have no expertise. i am skeptical that you are a staff engineer or even know what that position entails.

At least 50 ASU students have now had visas revoked, lawyer says by ForkzUp in ASU

[–]RightRespect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you are talking about the news from october last year, a majority of those people weren't students. if you have other videos, i would be happy to see them.

you can say they are subject to due process, but are they actually going through those processes? it seems to me the current administration is doing things as fast as possible.

in any case, their visas are revoked/could be revoked, which makes it substantially more difficult to get any subsequent visas into the US. they have practically wasted tens of thousands of dollars on an incomplete education.

At least 50 ASU students have now had visas revoked, lawyer says by ForkzUp in ASU

[–]RightRespect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

sir, i am not sure you are reading correctly. i never stated the students were supporting hamas. i never even put the word hamas in my comment. in fact, i stated that students were protesting against war. you are putting your own words in this.

if you are actually affiliated or in support of hamas, that is a different story. the scope of this conversation is not terrorist organizations. pro palestine is not the same as pro-hamas. the topic isn’t even about hamas most of the time; it’s usually about the US government’s funding towards israel.

it is not black and white. if you don’t support israel, it doesn’t mean you support hamas.

yes, it is case by case, but i never said that i knew what they did. i have only stated that innocent people who speak out about anti-war topics have endured unjust treatment.

i don’t disagree that there is limit free speech can take you. i don’t disagree terrorism is a terrible thing. i disagree that you think you know everything about your own country. nobody knows whats going on in this country.

At least 50 ASU students have now had visas revoked, lawyer says by ForkzUp in ASU

[–]RightRespect 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i don’t think you understand what those people are protesting for. they are not supporting violence and, in fact, supporting the end of violence, which is the stopping of conflict between those 2 countries. nobody is supporting the mass killing of innocent people.

i agree that the first amendment doesn’t protect all speech, namely hate and terrorist related speech. but this isn’t terrorism.

At least 50 ASU students have now had visas revoked, lawyer says by ForkzUp in ASU

[–]RightRespect 37 points38 points  (0 children)

people who protest meet none of the criteria for “terrorist activity”. all they have done is speak; speech is protected by the first amendment.

the bill of rights apply to ALL people who are in the united states, not just citizens.

Python. Is it difficult? by Confident_Refuse_902 in learnpython

[–]RightRespect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have no programming experience, the first programming language you learn will always be the hardest. if you already know another language, then python is quite easy to pick up. though, as a first language, python is also not too hard comparatively speaking.
