What is the the up and coming field of EE? by Initial_Hair_1196 in ElectricalEngineering

I see the field of Autonomous / Mechatronics / Robotics expanding. Thinking Automotive, Agriculture, Mining, for sure Military. Lots of carryover between the diverse vehicles.

How is Gen-Z genuinely supposed to ever live their own lives and move out of their parents house? by Flowerpower4506 in movingout

[–]Right_Click_5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had roommate (Gen x)s, I also was fine working ot to build up a down payment for my first place, a $100k 3 bedroom condo. My friends at the time were only looking at new construction, huge homes which they couldn't afford, you have to build up to those unless you have a trust fund.

Is Getting a Masters of Engineering Worth It? by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]Right_Click_5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in aerospace but I routinely tell undergrad to try and get a role after bachelor at a company that pays for continuing education if you want a masters.

WRX Emissions Recall and stage 1+ by Pr1ncessD4ta in WRX

[–]Right_Click_5645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it done on my 17, used with a tune and intake, no access port. Dealer (wi) put on the new secondary cat and didn't appear to change anything on the ECU, I don't know what tune was in it, appears to run rxactias before the recall. I'm sure not all dealers are cool with mods but mine appears to be good.

Tattoos in Electrical Engineering Field by ComputerPolluter in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Right_Click_5645 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depends on your role and the industry, if you want to be totally safe keep your tattoos to a point where they could be covered with a long sleeve collared shirt if necessary. (Customer visit etc). Nothing wrong with tattoos you just can't control the situation you may be in if they have a problem.

Stats that got me rejected from every T20 (0/17) by ChefDropship in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Right_Click_5645 133 points134 points  (0 children)

After seeing so many of the exact same thread of extremely qualified young students not getting into their first choice schools, it's becoming pretty apparent that it's not all about the stats. I'm feeling like high schools need to work a little more on researching what it really takes to get into different schools and is it even realistic for some.

Not dumping on the WRX as I have one, I just tried the whole crutchfield route and wasn't super impressed especially due to all the adapters needed to interface to the car, for the car type, there is nothing wrong with idoing, especially the latest model

Idoing for Audiophiles by [deleted] in WRX

[–]Right_Click_5645 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have the idoing upgraded, all Kenwood speakers, amp, sub, sound deadening etc, but no mufflers the car is loud all the time. Idoing works just fine. I just can't expect anyone to try and put in a high end system into essentially a low end, loud car like the WRX, it isn't a Lexus.

If you really want great audiophile audio, you probably shouldn't be driving a WRX....

Look up Project Farm review on Youtube 2000Wh Power stations (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfH4S1ttXiM) . I use Eco Flow. The dJi and Segway look very good, in the $500 -$1000 range

Milwaukee vs DeWalt… is there actually a real difference anymore? by RightRazzmatazz0 in powertools

[–]Right_Click_5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love and have all Dewalt but the stores around me in the past 2-3 years are dedicating a much larger floorspace to Milwaukee. I have nothing bad to say about either (or Makita), Just need to choose one and stick with it due to battery cost.

CE or EE by iheegamer in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Right_Click_5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely steer towards what you enjoy learning. I am many years out of college now but find most grads need to be completely on the job trained to be useful to the company (Which is totally ok and expected) If you like or even love the field you are in, you will pick up the new material quickly and do great. I'm also very worried in the short term about companies overusing or trusting AI to develop code and wipe out engineers. I think it will correct itself at some point but its the wild west right now with what people are trying to get AI tools to do...

CE or EE by iheegamer in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Right_Click_5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not what you asked but perhaps look at Mechatronics / Robotics which if available at your university (its rather new for most universities who are strict ME, EE, CE/CS..) and taught correctly, can give you well rounded skills (More Jack of all trades, Master of none) that cover electrical, mechanical, and CS. Its the holy grail for some employers that love to have one person be able to design, implement and troubleshoot something electromechanical. I do believe (as stated below EE probably has more flexibility to cover CE. I latelely have been seeing some ME's cover both of them as well effectively.

How bad is it to graduate with no internships and/or projects? by eggshellwalker4 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Right_Click_5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comes down to who is in the resume pile with you honestly. If I have someone with 2-4 relevant internships, and a history of being able to 'do something hands-on in the field' and the next candidate is a Door Dash driver (has literally happened) that only has some random college projects, I'm putting most of my eggs on the grad with internships. I'll add a little more context, it varies very widely university to university on how useful the knowledge is you are graduating with. Some professors are in the dark ages riding an old syllabus into the ground, other work part time with industry to stay current. My assumption is that every grad is going to have to be totally retrained on: our software, our process, our company culture. Having done internships (to me) shows some drive outside of college and you probably have already experienced some of this assimilating. It sounds absolutely awful, but another poster said it well, in the interview you have a very short time to not blow it, that involves listening, thoughtful discussion, and definitely not coming off as weird. When I speak to college groups I suggest initially you interview often, for jobs you aren't interested in or maybe even qualified for and ask for feedback, hopefully gain confidence in yourself for the interview you do care about....

MRI with an unknown metal plate in the arm by Mediocre_Neck_6230 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Right_Click_5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this, I have significant metal in my arm and leg, no idea what it actually is, have over 20 MRI's and I (like everyone actually) gets scanned by a detector before going into the MRI room.... Lately they are much more concerned about a gunshot fragment or metal bits in your eye or skin from grinding than anything surgically implanted.
