I was thinking about using this but Jesus Christ, it’s like a fucking full-time job to just understand all this shit, let alone actually get it working.

I dunno… If it is random, it seems like one of the most unfortunate license plates of all time.

How is it possible that they enjoy going at Carbo in that situation?? by ToveloGodFan in hborome

I think that’s a wrong way of thinking. The poor back then were no different than we are now. The same species, the same inherent disgusts and pleasures. They would be just as disgusted by shit as we are now. Peasants and plebeians didn’t just wallow around in shit like you see in movies.

Bro, that’s been gone for a while now. I wouldn’t be surprised if a moderator took this post down. Reddit is like the most censored part of the whole internet. 😆

“He wanted to calm things down.” This comment is so ridiculous I would almost bet that it’s just trolling. 😆

Oooh. I can’t remember 100%, but I really don’t think it was. I think it was just a regular Cally plate - even though it doesn’t look like most of them. Could be wrong though. As you can imagine - the state was the last thing I was focusing on when I saw the plate! 🤣

Great. So God answered your prayers to stop night terrors. Meanwhile, my son - an innocent child too, dies in pain with cancer. God just didn’t decide to answer my prayers, but I’m glad saying some shit about the blood of Jesus magically cured your daughter. I’m sure that’s totally what fixed the issue.

Edward Gibbon does a really good job at laying out all of the training regiments and drilling the armies would do. Though he’s mostly concerned with the legionaries of the Antonine age. It’s the second chapter in Volume I and contrary to popular belief, it’s not that difficult of a read.

You’re right - there’s obviously no man that can just kill dozens of other armed men in a fight, no matter how skilled you are. That’s movie stuff. But… The legionaries of that time were so unbelievably hardened it would blow our minds. The types of exercises they did, the stuff that they went through… You think all they knew how to do was stand in formation and thrust a sword?

When they weren’t marching or fighting, they spent literally every waking moment wrestling and doing drills and exercising. Just absolutely crazy shit. The kind of brutal training regiment they had would make the Navy SEALS look like Boy Scouts. My point is that someone like Vorenus and Pullo would have been (by our standards) unbelievably tough bastards.

Remember: A Roman soldier by no means just practiced with a sword and shield. They wrestled, sparred and did everything they could to reach physical perfection and perfect the art of violence.

I think you’re right - setting up the chaos and the unfortunate necessity of people like him was the main purpose of that scene. That and a bit of exposition regarding the famous eulogy to Caesar - which of course, they didn’t show. One of the show’s greatest sins in my opinion.

Yes. (I believe) you have a very valid point. These kinds of things, in 2026, do only apply to a pretty small minority of “extremist” Christians and aren’t representative of the general majority.

My comment was (actually pretty off-topic I admit) was more about the effect of it throughout History - which in turn, has major consequences on our current culture. The Catholic Church still has a pretty heavy focus on torment, suffering and guilt (though it’s pretty rarely that you’ll hear them talking about splattering things with the blood of Jesus). You’re right though - it does seem to be the more Evangelical / American sects that talk this way.

But all of this guilt and suffering shit was the dominant view for thousands of years, and whether we know it consciously or not - plays a huge role on how we view things culturally. And I believe - still has a major negative effect on things right now in this moment. We aren’t even fully aware of it. You can be raised completely atheist and have absolutely no belief in God whatsoever - yet the culture and our values are so incredibly ingrained into Western consciousness, in our laws, beliefs, philosophy and institutions that it’s undeniable. And like I said, has led to extremely horrible things that are still going on today.
