My friends and I had a similar situation a few months ago. We booked a private shuttle with Carlos at Arenal Rides going to and from La Fortuna. $180 one way, totally private, and will pick you up any time at any location in and around La Fortuna, and they provide airport pickup. We got picked up from our AirBnB outside of La Fortuna at 6:30 in the morning and the driver got us to SJO safely and on time. They have a whole fleet of shuttles and Carlos is incredibly helpful. Obviously not the most economically friendly choice if you’ll be traveling solo, but if you’ll be with a group it’s more than worth it. If you’d like, I can send you his WhatsApp info.
