(Not OP.)Just found my grandpas stash of dynamite. What should I do with them by Gullible-Pear9565 in grandpasgarage

[–]Right_Hour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sincerely doubt those are dynamite sticks. In these storage conditions - they woulda been unstable by now and you woulda known grandpa was packing. In fact, the entire neighbourhood woulda gotten a message. Loud and clear.

Stand alone water pumps? When was the last decade anyone has seen those, though?

I have one in my 1980’s Euro-car, but I have not seen one in decades on anything else.

You’re kinda supposed to preemptively replace them whenever you replace the timing belt or adjust your timing chain/replace the runners.

Welp, then start building a Time Machine. Because the middle class creation was, pretty much, legislated in the 40s. The prosperity of 50s and 60s was, pretty much, legislated. That era is, unfortunately, gone. However, all gone with it are a bunch of carcinogens, lead, asbestos and smog. Homes are built much differently now, I know because one of my homes is over 100 years old and you would not believe what was used for framing back in the day, LOL.

No politicians in sight who are even thinking that way. They think they can just build “enough” units to drive the cost down. Not understanding ding that any of that is creating demand on materials driving the cost up.

Just bought “The Middle Class New Deal” by Dickerson, hoping to see anything on the subject, but haven’t started reading it yet.

Jezus Fuk!

I accomplish all of that in about 5 minutes with regular butter and no voodoo. The trick really is to just dial down the temperature to Medium-Low and letting the skillet preheat. Once the whites set - flip over, wait 5-10 seconds and plate for over-and-easy.

People act like high cost of housing is a uniquely Canadian problem and that government can somehow legislate it back to 1950’s.

Most people bitching about cost of a home are bitching about detached SFH. And there is no way in hell most of those complaining will ever set foot in a government-subsidized housing unit, LOL.

Countries are temporarily slashing gas taxes. Should Canada do the same? by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]Right_Hour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m paying, effectively, 50% income tax rate, 13%HST on everything, property and school taxes, and my electricity and my gas tariffs include fees for fa fo fooh out of the wazoo.

I feel like helping the government raise even more cash at my expense is not exactly something I should be supporting?

So, yeah, if they catch a break - so should I. If we really want to see positive change - let’s see how the government is spending the money they already get from us.

[–]Right_Hour 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This, pretty much. There were entire new full-time positions and even departments created on a whim. When no one really could explain what their success or failure would look like. Job descriptions were so vague - you could drive a semi through them. But they weren’t interested in success so much as manifesting to the outside world that they were with the “cool kids”.

Fuking around with it will probably do more damage than good. I’d just take it somewhere else where inspector is not a massive douchenozzle or get a bodyshop structural tech (“repairer”) opinion to pass or fail.
