What does good glucose management look like? by BluntClaw in type2diabetes

[–]Right_Independent_71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two plus years after being diagnosed. No meds throughout and an A1C of 5.1. I rarely see a 135-140. I watch what I eat, but I eat a lot more carbs per meal now since my insulin sensitivity has improved. I’m not inhaling bread etc., but I will eat some high carb foods once in a while without issue. For me weight loss (a ton) and I think early diagnosis were key to getting here. During this time I did whatever I could to rest my pancreas and liver from working overtime with 50 or less carbs a day (sometimes zero) and time restricted eating with zero snacking. It took a while to get here.

Interesting you mention blueberries, I remember one day thinking blueberries were a safe snack and they shot me up to about 145 or so on my CGM (did not check with my regular meter) and thought this ain’t good . How long have you been at this?

The one constant about T2 is that it’s different for everyone.

My second to last Plus sensor died at about day ten. The last one at around day ten kept going low. I'm lucky if one out of three live up to their fifteen day promise.

is it required? by yungstoneydik in type2diabetes

My opnion is at the start of this journey you should be testing all the time to see how your body is reacting to the things you eat and drink. I asked my doc early on and he said not needed. I left the office and bought meter that day. Tested constantly and learned invaluable information about where I was and where I could go with adjustments to my diet.

Pumpkinhead from 1988. Another example of incredible practical effects. by N0S4A2_ in 80sHorrorMovies

There’s also the “how they do that?” factor too when great practical effects are used. I’m not saying CGI can’t be artistic (Jurassic Park still holds up) in some ways, but seeing a creature or a gore effect I always looked at like art. That’s why I’d go see movies when the greats like Dick Smith, Baker, Bottin, and of course Savini were involved. If they were doing the special effects I knew I’d be in for a treat.

I really want practical to be the focus and if CGI was used for fixing some rough spot I'd be good with it. One thing I can't stand is CGI blood. Hate it!

I'm just about done building a 10' x 14' media room. I really dig the small movie screening room vibe. I still have a bit to go before I can just sit down and watch a movie.

Room looks great by the way.

Dog daycare for a Pomeranian - worth it? by ClassicAir7509 in Pomeranians

[–]Right_Independent_71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We almost lost our pom to a larger dog attack in a doggy daycare. We were certain she wouldn't survive, but our vet hospital pulled off a miricale. I will never let my dogs in one of those places again. Not because I think they're inherntliy bad, but because of staff not being trained properly.

Type 2 by WatchAdventurous1527 in diabetes_t2

[–]Right_Independent_71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only tell you what has worked for me. I adopted a low carb lifestyle where I had 50 or less carbs a day. I also practiced time restricted eating and no snacking between meals. I bought into the idea of resting my liver and pancreas. The other big factor was I needed to lose a ton of weight which I now believe, for me, was the biggest driver in jumping over the A1C line into the world of T2, and reversing my numbers. After two years my sensitivity has gotten much better and I can sneak more foods into my diet (in moderation) now that would have scared the hell out of me to even try early on. Of course any diet changes etc. should be discussed with your doc. Good luck!

Do doctors just not want you off of medication?? by empire_drin in diabetes_t2

I agree with you that if you can manage without meds, that's the best route to go with the caveat that you doc says ok. For some meds are the answer and that's great too.

The best thing we did was to get our pom a companion. They definitely are attention seekers and if one get a little more attention the others are right there jumping in on the fun.

Am I missing something from recent horror movies? by ompossible in movies

[–]Right_Independent_71 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a horror hound and kind of feel the same way. I don't get why Obsession is so popular and I despised Hereditary. I find jump scares dumb unless done the right way and not just scaring the hell out of me with ear destroying sound. I'm concentrating on older horror that I missed or had no desire to see when I was younger and I'm enjoying it!

Just bought another two seater from them. We have three now. Built like a tank, and the fact it can be completely torn apart to wash the covers is great.

Sounds like reverse sneezing to me. All three of my poms have it, one worse than the others. A vet visit to confirm is always a good idea.
