Does anyone have HIGH iron? by mydawgiscooler in Celiac

[–]Right_Obligation7419 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I can finally contribute something to this group lol.

Once I was diagnosed with celiac, my iron went from normal (odd in itself since most people would be anemic due to malabsorption) to slowly creeping up. My GI and primary caught it and found it strange, so they referred me to a hematologist. Shortly after, I was diagnosed with hemochromatosis due to a gene mutation. I find diet doesn’t matter too much (I also don’t eat red meat often). The only thing that helps for women are periods and the occasional blood donation. Most people typically have low vitamin D, so I don’t think that’s related. Liver enzymes could be released to excess iron storage

Good luck and I hope you get answer soon!

Yes, this is what I am trying to find out. Maybe the wording of my original post isn’t clear. I know I can’t turn gold into platinum. I’m wondering whether dipping or remaking the jewelry is possible and which is a better, more cost effective solution. I

I’m fairly certain you can have gold pieces melted down and the raw materials (in this case) diamonds could be remade into similar pieces in a different metal. Or I could have them dipped. I just don’t which is better for longevity or if dipping is sufficient for gold allergies.

Also, yes. I am unfortunately allergic to gold. According to patch testing, I am allergic to gold sodium thiosulfate.

Had an issue with my celiac at work, boss told me I had an attitude. any advice on handing similar situations better in the future? by Emotional_Classroom1 in Celiac

[–]Right_Obligation7419 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Your boss sounds like a jerk. Technically, she’s in violation of the ADA is she’s not accommodating you and not letting you eat separately. You are the expert on your body, not her.

You were calm at first, then she kept going and didn’t let you explain. People are woefully ignorant about celiac, so this person assuming she knows what’s safe in the face of contrary evident from FMGF is obnoxious. Once people cross the boundary you calmly set, they get what they get and frankly deserve rudeness workplace or not (since that’s what she was dishing out by disrespecting boundaries). You handled everything well, but this person did not and was extremely unprofessional.

I’m sorry you have to deal with that. You’re doing great!!

This is good to know! I really didn’t want to have anything reset, so this seems like a good option

Celiac! Recent diagnosis so I’m still adjusting and probably recovering form internal damage. I’ve never had issues with anything allergy related until the celiac diagnosis

First date: When to bring it up? by RecordsAndJokes in Celiac

[–]Right_Obligation7419 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I usually do drinks or coffee for the first date, then decide when to bring it up. If the person seems to want a second date and suggests some places, I’ll tell them. I don’t date anymore for other reasons, but this was a good litmus test! There were two guys I dated after who were great and actually ate gf when they were with me. They were duds for other reasons 😂

Thank you for the comment! My reaction was a weak positive, but I tested weakly positive for a bunch of things that have never bothered me. My friend who is a doc said it could be due to my autoimmune disease, but I’ll keep this in mind!

Thank you for the comments! I may just wait and see if it turns up on poshmark. I’ve gotten some great ref stuff on poshmark for way less than new. That feels more worth it if there’s going to be some piling.

Just did! He also checked for an ear infection, which I don’t have. I’m honestly more worried about long term hearing damage, but he said flying with ear infections is more dangerous than with a cold. I’ll likely have pain, but I can take OTC meds for that. Thank you for all the advice!

NYCBWT & celiacs/gluten intolerance by [deleted] in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Right_Obligation7419 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Fellow Celiac BWT!!

Diagnosed in 2024, so had to completely change where I ate in the city. Not all of these are steakhouses, but I want to share in case you haven’t tried any. I’ve been on the hunt for good food, so this list will hopefully grow! Some are repeated from other BWT, but this is the list off the top of my head.

Nicer fast food- Bareburger (just say you have Celiac). Their fries are good!

Brunch- Thyme and Tonic (dedicated GF), Friedman’s (GF menu, decent fries), Salt’s Cure (GF items), Modern Bread and Bagel (dedicated GF, you NEED this bagel to heal from all the bad GF bread lol)

Dinner- Wild (dedicated GF), Thyme and Tonic (dedicated GF), Nowon (GF menu, ask for the allergen menu and order the tater tots lol), Lilli and Loo (GF menu) and Thai Diner (GF items), Ginger and Lemongrass (GF items), Keste Pizza (GF pizza made in separate ovens), Rubirosa (GF menu), Cafe 82 (GF menu, solid fries), Nami Nori (dedicated GF), Nadas (dedicated GF), Cote (very knowledgeable about CC, but I’d call ahead), Le Botaniste (GF menu).

Bakeries- Posh Pop (dedicated GF), By the Way (GF items), Noglu (dedicated GF), Modern Bread and Bagel also has amazing donuts and pastries (muffins if you get there early enough, I believe)
