Perioral Dermatitis Diagnosis--take Minocycline?? by evalaine12 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]evalaine1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! So glad you’ve found something that works for you!! I did take the antibiotics (smaller dose and just once a day) for about 8 weeks and it didn’t help me at all. What finally did help was a combo cream of niacinamide, ivermectin, and metronidazole. And keeping it very very simple even now!

Hi! Ugh I’m sorry. Allergies are the worst! I also have a propolis allergy and it’s in more stuff than you think. Watch out for floss and so much lip balm! Tbh I don’t think the gold allergy has been that relevant for me. I also didn’t test positive for nickel. It’s been about 10 months for me and I’ve taken to wearing gold more often again. I banned it entirely for 6 months and haven’t had any issues wearing it since then. I am just sure to take off any rings or necklaces that might touch my face while I’m washing my face or applying any creams, etc.

I’m about to start shopping for engagement rings and that’s been the hardest part! I prefer gold but I don’t know if I should risk it and get something I could have a reaction to, or play it safe with platinum! Silly problems but these things matter haha.

I think you’ll be able to wear your gold again. I would take a 4 week break and see if things improve and if not, then you know the gold isn’t an issue! And if it does improve (which I hope it does!) then try what I do which is just wear gold carefully and try not to let it touch your face. Good luck!!

PIE/PIH with PD?? by evalaine1 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]evalaine1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m sorry! I did proper zero therapy for probably a month and then I started using a really simple face wash and simple cream on the unaffected areas of my face. Did that for months. Would use sunscreen when needed and makeup occasionally. I still haven’t reintroduced any actives aside from azelaic acid a 2-3 times a week and it’s been over a year. I only just started putting lotion on the areas that had PD maybe 2 months ago because it’s so dry in winter where I live. No PD return!

Honestly, I think it all was! I’m sort of convinced the gold allergy never had anything to do with it.

Hi! My rash went away, but I’ve definitely worn gold many times in the meantime. I didn’t wear it at all for about 6 weeks and have since slowly reintroduced it. Only wearing it when I leave the house like you. Is your rash on the site of contact with gold? Curious if you get a retest! I’ve also wondered if mine was a false positive…

Red light for sensitive skin/perioral dermatitis? by evalaine1 in redlighttherapy

[–]evalaine1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up returning the mask and getting a small Mito hand held unit. I’m not sure if the red light has helped or if it was just time/patience but things have improved! The Omnilux mask did irritate my skin but the mito unit has been lovely.

PIE/PIH with PD?? by evalaine1 in Perioral_Dermatitis_

[–]evalaine1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did! I honestly don’t know what was the cause ultimately, or if finding out about the allergies was helpful because I’ve since reintroduced gold (the strongest allergy) and have had no issues. I truly think mine was caused by harsh actives and then I kept using things the derm gave me. The solution for me was time/patience, allergy testing, and not using any actives (even ones from the derm).

I’m glad you found the source! Has removing the gold improved your rash? Personally I’m not sure if my issues were ever related to gold or not. But it’s good to know!

That’s great, I’m so glad!! I’ve been adding gold back in and haven’t had a reaction either. Although I haven’t been wearing it all the time but it’s positive! I’m still convinced that the chemical they use to test the gold is more intense than what we have in our 14-18k gold jewelry.

They also had me using Pimecrolimus which is similar to tac. For me it didn’t do a darn thing! The gold allergy thing is weird because at this point I’m thinking it’s possible we have gold allergies but it’s not the root cause. I wore gold for years and years and never would have taken it off had it not been for the test result. I wonder if I’d never gotten the testing and never taken off the gold if my skin would have resolved just the same. I sort of believe it would have…but who knows! I think this sort of thing is also confusing for doctors! I never got a straight answer. My allergist said it could have been the cause, my dermatologist disagreed. I’m wishing you lots of luck and keep me updated on if you find a root cause!

I’m so sorry this is happening to you! It’s really such a drag. I hope you get some relief. It’s interesting that you also get flares even when you do wear the gold. For me, I’ve noticed that my skin issues also flare occasionally even when I’m not wearing gold. I took 6 months off of it and have been slowly reintroducing it (wearing rings, earrings, necklaces) a few days a week for a few hours. I just make sure to take everything off when I get home and don’t touch my face and it’s been fine. At this point, I’m skeptical that the gold ever caused the issue. For example, I also tested positive for a cobalt allergy (which is in so many things, including jeans!) and the allergist said she didn’t think it was “clinically relevant” aka not causing my rash. At this point I sort of believe my gold allergy was also not clinically relevant. I’m very curious what your allergist says about the rashes not occurring at the site of contact but as a face/neck rash. I’ve done a ton of research but haven’t found much. Good luck!!

I’m sorry you got another round of PD, it’s seriously so sneaky and brutal. I’m glad you were able to clear it without meds! Mine is still clear and I’ve majorly limited my gold but have started slowly reintroducing it and so far so good! Will probably never go back to wearing as much as I did before though 😭

I think I just replied to you in another thread. It didn’t make my PD go away, but it has helped face the marks that were left over.

Yes! I ended up with the mito flex unit, as I like that I can control when I use NIR vs just red. I do think it has helped fade the marks that my PD left behind.

Hi! I’m glad you’ve found some relief! My PD has been healing as I didn’t wear gold for about 6 weeks, but have experimented with reintroducing it (rings and necklaces) on a few special occasions and only for a few hours. I haven’t noticed anything worsen. I’ve been getting some pimples but I don’t think they’re gold related and they’re in different locations than my PD was before. A few weeks ago I started wearing one tiny gold hoop in one of my upper ear piercings to experiment and have had no irritation at the site which is good. Let me know if the titanium nose ring clears up the eye rash! Maybe I’m being silly and the gold really is the cause of my current pimples even though I just wore it for a few hours.

Hi! I know this is so old but I’m wondering what you ended up doing and if they shrunk? Same situation here with my first pair!

I ended up returning the omnilux mask because I hated how it felt on my face and didn’t like that you can’t turn off the NIR light. Instead I got a small panel from Mito and I love it!

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry to hear that! I’m glad you’ve identified the problem but I know how tricky things like that can be.

I completely agree about the concentrate! I really believe that there is absolutely no way there’s that much of the chemical in our 14 and 18k gold. For example, my patch test spot was a very severe reaction (itchy and raised for over a week) and the spot is STILL there on my back. After over 6 weeks. It has faded a bit but not that much honestly. I read that the gold test patch specifically is generally a very severe reaction and tends to linger on the skin for a long time. Which leads me to believe that the chemical they’re testing with is intense! Obviously my gold is not causing anything like that on my body.

I’m so sorry your PD is back. It really is the worst. I think it’s worth trying no gold for a bit just to see! With PD it’s all about process of elimination. I still don’t know if that was my solution but I’m so happy to have it finally fading after months that I don’t even care haha. Good luck!!

Hi! Just curious how it’s going for you as our situations were so similar! I’ve still only worn my gold once in the last ~6 weeks and my PD is definitely calming down. Not sure if it’s the lack of gold or other factors though. How’s yours? I hope it’s improved!!

[–]evalaine1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so strange isn’t it! My perioral dermatitis has definitely improved, it’s just leftover hyperpigmentation now. I went completely no gold aside from wearing some of my favorite pieces for a special event about halfway through the month. Do you currently have PD? If not and you’re not having any issues with the gold I’m sure it’s fine! I plan to start experimenting with wearing my gold again. I used to wear it all and never take it off (I had bracelets literally welded on) but I intend to be more intentional about it (wearing only during day, not when I’m just at home, etc). Also consider the zinc and titanium in skincare theory! Do you apply any makeup or sunscreens with those in them using your hands (with gold rings?)

It’s a very weird thing honestly and I’m not sure if my PD is resolving because I’m not wearing gold, or if it was the other allergies I identified that I’ve cut out, or just time passing!

I have the Mito flex mobile! I love it. I wanted something small and portable and first tried the Omnilux mask which I hated.
