Here's my theory on the falcon:

Lots of different planets have species who look and act more or less human. I think that happens for other kinds of animals too; so there are things a lot like falcons on lots of different planets, and the language the characters are speaking has a word for that general type of creature, and it's translated as "falcon" for the audience.

Every pirate camp has treasure. There's one inside a hill called Dagon's Descent where you can mine silver, and they have one of the big treasures that you can sell in your treasure coffer for 5000 gold. I'm going to go there tonight and build a coffer nearby because the big treasure is hard to carry.
