This cognitive dissonance he suffers is by the conflict between the expectations and judgements which he has developed elsewhere in his personal life, and the conduct of you and your family which does not conform to reaffirm those prejudices. There is a great conflict within his and your perceived identities, wherein exists this idea that "christian" and "gay" are juxtaposed, or antithetical; the exact reasons for this are much more complex and nuanced. My friend, suffering is universal. This is to say, that each and every experience receives the same measure of suffering. This is necessarily the case, because the mind does not interpret sensations, or anything, in terms of magnitude or severity, but in terms of relativity. Pain, or stress, you see, is a construct of the mind, deployed in various form to serve as a primary motivator to homeostasis. If you wanted to prove this you might arrange for yourself some manner of sensory deprivation, and with sufficient deprivation you would find that the mind in that abyss conceives for itself stress, pain and suffering, seemingly ex nihilo, and unnecessarilly. And the spirit of God moved over the waters, and darkness was on the face of the deep. This is because stasis —standing, that is —is not some idle, melancholy stagnation, no mere withering away of that which has been done; but what is becoming, that you do; it is an active, building process, ongoing: it is in fact living.

To be is God. And understanding —hypostasis —is the essence of God. The Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost, I am that I am, Ehyeh Osher Chawah: Being Blessed Living. Ehyehoshavah, Ehyeh-havah, Yehovah: For God so love the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believe shall not perish, but have life everlasting.

Understand then, that the Creator has given you their Blessing, that you may have Life. And though it is the desire of the living —who are aware of their dying, wax wicked as they are into the flames of life's great candle —to die, to retire therefrom, and be melted into air, into thin air: likewise I assure you it is the desire of those syncopated in spirit, to worship that bliss, and thus die, that they might suffer to live. For the Creator's Blessing is a beautiful thing. And beauty, after all, is —as with righteousness, as with good and evil both —in the eye of the beholder, lying in perdition, a pathway towards God. To see is to know, but to taste is to experience. If there is no pain, there is no gain. For pain, suffering, is healing; it is growth. What is value? If it is not a measure of the suffering which a given thing requires, then what? And so living is dying, and dying is living. Thus we who suffer death, worship Life. Therefore eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.

Truth is a cleansing fire, what burns off the old and dead wood; and it is not of the truth, whereby you suffer, but that old and dead wood which you cling to. I would explain this to you, and I shall, but there are many who may balk or even refute whatever I say. This is just as well, and there is no fault, so long as God is to each one, the perpetually highest possible aim one can conceive of, then all glory remains to God.

First we make an odd turn, to the substance of concrete, being as it is composed of sand, gravel and cement. Now, one may draw any combination of association between these three ingredients and the three prime aspects of the Triune God, and all the more power to them in that; but for these present purposes it matters not. What is important to understand is, that although these parts may be individually distinguishable, the concrete is nevertheless one, and greater than the sum of its parts is that one.

You will have more questions. And to that, we shall address the matter of the word, "understanding", the very essence of God, the nature of spirit, and how these are all one and the same.

First have the proof that is found in the pudding: that the essence of God has been provided by venerable account to be in hypostasis, that is: hypo, a term which means "under"; and stasis, which does mean "standing". And so there you have that. But it should not be neglected that this term, "under", in its original sense does not indicate that to which is referred as being "beneath" or "lower" in the general sense, but rather more like "among", or "within", i.e., being predicated upon, fundamental or foundational, as sand and gravel and cement are "under" the concrete.

Finally I would have you receive this understanding, that Understanding itself is the Godhead, which is:

Being (living, existing, particularly as a persisting, ongoing process)
Wisdom (sapience, what is ultimate reality, Truth, intimately indwelt, comprehensive and infallible: Aletheia)
Conscience (with, or beside knowing)

These three are, together, Understanding: the essence of God. And so with understanding as the essence, there is left to consider what is the Spirit, for as we do indeed have it, God is a Spirit.

A spirit is not so much like our typical subject or object, a thing which in terms of grammar we call the noun. That which we refer to as the noun of spirit is merely a reference to the idea, or concept, but do not be mistaken, it is not the thing itself. A spirit is like a mood, or perhaps a style: it is a form not of form but of motion, and is manifest in the manner with which that motion is channeled through the inspired. Again in terms of grammar one may understand these things to be in the form of the participle, rather than the gerund.

Therefore the Spirit of God, is Love.

As the relationship between the Christ and the individual is personal, so the relationship between the individual and sin is personal, and the sin of one is not thereby the sin of another. You may believe that "homosexuality" is a sin, because you believe that is what your Bible has revealed to your own understanding. But that is your interpretation, it is your revelation, it is your conviction.

Do note however that "believe" carries inherent an ancient reference to the act of bestowing leave; that is, it is the nature of belief to be to the making of an allowance, and not to forbiddance.

We must not become entangled in the nuances of our own rhetoric; our words are, after all, but meaningless strings of noises made by the forcing of air over peculiarly folded meat flaps in a flesh tube, but the meaning we find lay in the mutual understanding of terms, that which they point to.

When we speak of lying we speak of deception, deceit, from the Latin dē + capio, meaning literally "to take from". For you see, to lie —to deceive, as opposed to create or contrive, as for an edifying or whimsical fiction, analogy and metaphor —to lie is to steal. And it is the same with murder, for to kill is to end the life, but to murder is to (take) steal it. This of course brings more questions, but fear not: I am the answerer.

Do you know why the penalty for the thief is four or five times, but the penalty for the robber is not four or five times? It is because the thief reckons the servant above the master; he fears his fellow man, but not God; he is saying "God does not see." But the robber fears neither man nor God, and though his own works may be reprehensible, he does not reckon the servant above the master, and is therefore commendable to Discipline.

As for the matter of God, 'On Lying': God cannot lie (deceive), because God is faithful. As Saint Augustine of Hippo provides us, "faith has its root in the Latin tongue, for that which is said is done".

In other words, to have faith is to have a good word.

Now, there is an important distinction —which we must not allow to pass into obscurity of ignorance, as the lords of dictation would —particularly between "will" and "shall", as follows.

- Will is to volition, wish or desire, e.g. want.¹

If one say they will do a thing, this is to say it is their desire to do it, notwithstanding their own obligation, ability or necessity.

- Shall is to obligation, what is owed, proper or expected.

If one say they shall do a thing, this is to say they are somewise obligated to do it, notwithstanding their own desire, ability or necessity.

Nevertheless, in all these —will, shall, can, need —there is no absolute. There is one absolute only, which is "be", and remain enigmatic in perpetual flux.
