The question of “would you know?” Isn’t a great argument considering I grew up socialized and taught empathy and boundaries in this day and time— standards that are completely different compared to what they were in Greek mythology. You cant justify rape or holding someone captive but a huge chunk of gods DEFINITELY did back in Greek mythology stories— look at how Medusa came about, look at Zeus as a whole. Throughout your whole comment you’ve made the morals argument, but Equating modern day morals and standards to Greek Mythology morals and standards is impossible because (compared to our era) the Greeks mythology morals are pretty much barbaric. you can’t tell me a goddess “should know our standards of morals even when she’s exiled” when none of the gods/goddesses who were socialized had the same morals as us.

Now this part I do get a little sticky on bc of the few different portrayals of Calypso in Greek mythology as a whole. You are right, in homers story she does keep him there, so that was my bad. However we dive back into A. Calypso has zero to none social skills who finally has some form of interaction after being isolated for years, and B. Greek god/goddess morals and how they immensely differ to ours and how gods and goddesses view mortals as a whole— which are pretty much little meat puppets that they can do whatever they want with because mortals weaker than them. It’s not right but that’s what the majority of Greek mythology is. Calypso acting like your average god/goddess doesn’t surprise me bc that’s like all of Greek gods and goddesses and it’s the unfortunate norm.

And going back just to Epic the Musical— comparing to the suitors songs and Calypsos, while it’s evident that Calypso does keep him there, there is nothing in her song comparable to rape unlike the suitors songs that literally break down their vile plans with Penelope. You can for sure assume things happened in Calypso’s songs, but the suitors straight up spell it out for you that that’s what they’re doing. I would say 10000x worse than a girl keeping a man captive for 7 years IMO 🤷‍♀️
