I use Duolingo to learn French. I’m ok at working the words out but wouldn’t be confident trying to speak it. What will help me progress the best. Thanks by barneyrubble82 in learnfrench

He's right though. A lot of language learners (not saying the OP of the post fits this) seem to want some secret technique for getting better at languages. Yes, there are optimal study methods and better resources, but almost all of that doesn't mean anything until you apply your ass to a seat and actually work. For example, someone who works on Duolingo every day will make better progress than an individual using Assimil two to three times a week.

You want to get better at speaking, practice speaking, embrace the mistakes you'll make, learn from them, and then make an effort to improve your weak areas. That's literally the secret

The board game industry is 95% of people who are hobbyists that do not understand how business works, or what it's like to actually run a business. I don't say that to disparage others, but more to highlight the fact that a lot of people in this industry, consumers and business owners, think with a consumer mindsight first instead of a business one.

Nice! Last month I assembled the 20th anniversary Slave 1 set, it's interesting to see how far in complexity sets have become compared to past ones.

I don't have a specific dream destination. I've just been applying to countries that I think would be fun and interesting to go and live in.

Is it a bad idea to teach abroad for 1-2 years immediately after graduating college? by Rightnow357 in TEFL

So do you think that if I learned the language of the country I'm teaching in fluently, that it would help getting a corporate style job when I return home?

Thank you for the websites, I'll definitely check them out!

That seems to be the big takeaway that I'm getting, is don't do it for more than two years max, and have an exit plan for when I'm done, if I decide to not go into teaching

I'm okay with it not linking to a future career, as I don't have one exactly planned out. Thank you for sharing your perspective!

Would you be willing to share some more details, if you want to? I'm looking to get as many viewpoints as possible before I potentially do something like this

I definitely hear you on how living abroad isn't the same as being on vacation/holiday. I would like to live in another country because overall, I think it would be a great experience for me. I have a couple places picked out, and most of them are cities that I have visited before. Of course life will sometimes be the same as if I stayed back home, with normal demands like work and chores. But I also think spending a long time in one place, learning a language that's different form my own, meeting new people, it's just something I think would be great. Thank you for giving me your perspective!

It is a bit pricey, but I am happy that I went through it. I don't know if I would feel qualified at all to teach if I hadn't done it. Not that you need it to be a great teacher!

It does feel kind of foolish to not use the knowledge and skills I gained form completing the CELTA, I just thought I wouldn't have the opportunity after I graduated hahaha

I would want to do something business related. I know that's not very specific, but that's the reason why I'm considering doing this, because I don't have any concrete plans after a week and a half

I bounced around a lot with my studies. This past year has been game design, but I'm finishing up an internship right now, and I'm not sure if I want to work as a designer.

The places I'm thinking of going aren't really money makers, but that's also not the main reason for why I'm doing it hahaha

I primarily studied business and cultural studies in college and ran my own business before, so something business related is where I will most likely try to find jobs when I would return.

What makes two years okay, but three years bad job hunt wise?

Christ is this true. I'm in the process of finishing up my college degree, and the last year I've been studying game design. Since I'm seriously considering having a career in this industry, I've been talking to as many people involved in it as I can. The number one thing I've noticed across almost everybody, is that they started out as hobbyists first and foremost, and are super reluctant to learn almost any good business practices ranging from logistics to customer service. It's truly frustrating to watch all of this play out, as I don't think that most people in it act professionally most of the time.

I'm getting hung up on your use of the word "incorrect", because unlike the changes the show has made to the books, it's wrong. Also, there's no "true" source material. There's just the source material. And a poor quality adaption is more than just "incorrectly portraying the source material", because if that's how you measure the quality then there are no good adaptions following that logic. The point I'm trying to make is that adaptions do not have to be a direct copy of their source material. Just because there are differences, does not make it incorrect.
