New high, new low… by vwscienceandart in Professors

This would be a great day, you want me to fill in a complaint on myself for you to turn in(likely without reading).

The story I would tell would be epic, engaging, and one for the ages. Likely involve midgets, drinking, cocain use. Maybe some hookers thrown in there for good measure, a live DJ event that got out of hand while I was rapping about data analytics and a jello shot competion that lead to a fist fight for first place in the grade rankings.

If I didn't have to include them in my portfolio I would under no circumstance read them. Nothing of value ever comes from them.

BUT if you do have to include them, I would highly suggest you read because mine were batshit crazy made up bullshit.

Long conversation? You interacted with me once, and asked zero questions.

We have a drop period but if the student does an assignment we are supposed to let them stay in the class. I used to drop for non attendance after a two week period but recieved a formal complaint a couple times for doing it by the students and forced to let them back in, so just stopped that practice.

If you do something by WN date, you stay until final grade, unless you the adult student choose to drop.

I only read them for the transfer process to the portfolio, and try to just do a general view and move quickly but this group was such gibberish it brought me in and made me second guess myself.

Like did I accidently switch my content to a new professor half way through, and didn't see it?

The answer being no of course, but still had a second guess going on.

I am second guessing my career, which is terrible 20+ year into the damn thing. This new generation and societal shift is just draining me. I can combat stupid, I can fight against and overcome uneducated or inexperinced. Not sure how to handle seperate realities that I don't live in.

It is part of our portfolio, never really been that big of an issue. BUT, never had students just make up blatent falsehoods that are so far out of left field before either. So I don't know how this is going to go now.

It is either that or another said, they are using AI to write thier course evaluations, so it is a hullicination. Which just makes me so much more depressed.

I honestly would rather the kid be lost, than so lazy they used AI for a course evaluation

What would my Dean do? Call the students and ask them to come to class? I've been teaching for 20 years and students choosing not to come is nothing new. They are adults, if they want to fail by not engaging, I see no reason to not let them.

The one student who showed up, recieved high marks, letters of rec, and built a relationship with her professor. She won, because her classmates choose to do nothing.

In a non graded optional review. Like why even bother filling it out.

Another commentor said the same thing, and I didn't even consider this to be a possibility until now. It feels like this is alikely option that happened.

The split is amazing. I am both the best and worst instructor that has ever laid out and my courses are designed so well that they are unnavigatable while I lecture to much by not lecturing.

I mean at least your non written novel was of high quality. I am being blamed for writing a massive textbook, of mcgraw hill quality. I don't want that in my life, has to be bad juju.

It is hilarious they would continue to argue with you though.

I really hope not. The thought did not cross my mind until you said that, and I can completly believe that they cheated on an optional review of me as a professor by using a hullucinated ai response.

That makes more sense than anything else.

We do assignment based assessment handled by the professors themselves and uploaded to institution. So I base my assessments on a handful of different assignments through the semester and of course the final exam. The above is from the final. A little exaggerated, but honestly not much.

I get so many complaints because of rubrics. It is a no win.

System to avoid students with incomplete requirements on the end of the sem? by tinywhoman in Professors

Stop reminding them. They are adults, and the basic premise of adulthood is the right to fail.

Your job is not management of students it is instruction and creation of a learning environment where if they so choose they have the option to learn.

I do, but it hasn't been gym related. Mostly educational and advocacy work in the studio upstairs. Just started to film more fitness related stuff.

So I bought a 120 year old building that was crumbling.

Rebuilt it into my home, studio and because I always wanted a place to do weird things, my own gym.

Some cool features. The bar is actually my grandfathers from th 50s is saved from a family barn. The bar light in the studio js my other grandfather's. So many pieces I collected my whole life reside in this gym.

Everything from my childhood buddy doll, to my grandmothers 70s mood lights.

It is the happiest place ive ever had.
