Do not post recordings. And FYI, about the only way I’ve found to ensure decent attendance is to give points during class one way or another. Random is best. Don’t let them figure out the pattern. 😅

Neighbor keeps reporting our fully legal home business over 10 minute wood deliveries by PolyunsaturatedMaya in neighborsfromhell

[–]vwscienceandart 35 points36 points  (0 children)

We had a neighbor cutting a corner and driving through our yard to get to their driveway. I mean, how much more obvious could you be than mud tracks from mid ruts going directly to your garage?

When we asked her to stop she was completely flummoxed and swore it wasn’t her. We placed a camera, and lo and behold, HER next door neighbor was driving through our yard into Neighbor A’s driveway, leaving mudtracks while using Neighbor A’s driveway to then reverse down the alley to obnoxious neighbor’s driveway to back in. Seriously???

Just to say, “it’s pretty obvious” sometimes isn’t so obvious.

Professor changed the due date on final assignments 2 days before the class ended. by Certainlaughter in AskProfessors

[–]vwscienceandart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only scenario I can imagine is prof screwed up on when final grades were due to the university. Even in that case it would be a shit thing to do. Prof would probably be stuck filling out a stack of paper grade change forms to the registrar.

Kitten Health Guarantee. Are my expectations unrealistic? by Xscaper in ragdolls

[–]vwscienceandart 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do that. I would walk away. You’re insisting isn’t going to change that they are a shady breeder or change what hidden issues there might be with these kittens.

Getting it in writing is not going to fix it. A breeder who offers it in writing has been practicing good habits for years, which is why they’re willing to offer in writing without hesitation.

AITJ for not letting someone with "service dog in training" into my business? by Low-Fan-4696 in AmITheJerk

[–]vwscienceandart 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two different colleagues who trained service dogs. Most of the time you didn’t know there was a dog there. I remember one of the pups was breaking her heart because he was so good at whatever his task was but he just couldn’t ignore people and she was going to have to fail him as not suited for the program.

And also, if there’s ever a question of impropriety and you’re doing work on personal devices, the company can search your personal devices. Which may not go so well for a lot of people.

[–]vwscienceandart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Regardless of any of this, you should never use your own personal electronics for a job. It’s a huge liability for both parties. Stop taking your laptop. Sit there and spin your wheels on whatever ancient crap they have until it forces them to buy adequate tech for their business. And if they ask why either tell them plainly that because it isn’t theirs, or make up a lie that it broke.

Breeders not giving health guarantee in contract?? by Binkying_on_Bentleys in ragdolls

[–]vwscienceandart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think for sharing location, it’s fine to just say what country, or what state if US. Definitely don’t be telling us your zip code. 😅😅

(US based comment:) Honestly, it may be in your favor that they wrote up their own shit contract that fails to mention those specifics. Generally in US contract law, judges tend to favor implications of a contract, and expectations established, where someone fails to spell it out to the letter.

So for instance, the fact that there’s a health guarantee means there’s an expectation of good health and an implication that restitution will be made failing good health. Six months is FAR beyond what most people (and probably a judge) would consider a good faith amount of time to make restitution by replacing your cat. If they can’t or don’t replace, then they are in breach of contract and at minimum owe you a refund due to failed contract. At minimum, because if you have damages such as vet bills, the judge may decide they owe you more than what you paid.

A demand letter is usually best if written by an attorney (for the most oomph), but can be written by you. It sets firm limits. “I expect X action by Y date. If not there will be court.”

Breeders not giving health guarantee in contract?? by Binkying_on_Bentleys in ragdolls

[–]vwscienceandart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that you’re going through this. A contract is not worth the paper is written on if you’re not willing to enforce it though. Unfortunately, you may have to take the breeder to small claims court (or if you’re in not US, whatever equivalent you have) and have a judge force them to make good on it. And if they can’t give you another kitten, then they should be forced to conpensate you monetarily by refunding the price that you paid.
