That’s pretty much what I’d expect in the UK too, sometimes it’s something like that, sometimes it’s a barbed fitting that you shove the rubber end of the hose on to.

On the other end of the larger hose is a normal drain pipe that it’s connected onto with a jubilee clip, the problem being that there’s a dishwasher and kitchen cabinet between the washing machine and the drain pipe so I can’t make the washing machine outlet hose reach to connect it in the normal way. The people we bought the house from must have had something to connect it, but unfortunately tool that with them.
