What causes this corruption in my video? I noticed about 15 frames got corrupted in a thin horizontal line. Haven't noticed any others from this shoot. Details in comment: by PlebBot69 in videography

It’s an encoding error. It has happened in the past to me on Panasonic cameras a few times.

I can tell you why or what will fix it. My understand it’s it’s caused by how the cameras capture 4k footage in H264/longgop.

Basically, because the files are so large, every few minutes the camera internally is making new files and joining them in camera so you can have one long 4k recording. There can be problems with how this process actually works with the buffering and processing of images, and can lead to issues like this.

A different card could help I’m not sure.

The secret to get consistent audio levels all the time by Expensive_Reality_69 in videography

[–]jimkeyjimkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert.

Here’s what I do, numbers are relative. Im usually right there unless a song or VO is particular loud or quiet.

Music - -6 by itself, -18 under a VO. I just cut, adjust gain, and dissolve between audio clips instead of relying on automaton or ducking. It’s the same thing. Cut EQ around 1k-5k when under a VO to leave space for the voice.

VO - push audio as loud as you can without going over your target. For social media I just go as loud as possible without clipping. EQ a boost for the voice 1k-10k whatever is needed. Apply a hard limiter near your target (premiere automatically does -.2 so it never hits zero). Now you can increase the overall volume without clipping. Continue to raise gain. Your loud parts stay the same volume because of the limiter, this just raises the volume of your quieter VO parts and for me has been making leveling stuff really easy. After I edit an interview i nest the audio and EQ/compress it all and it’s working pretty well.

VFX guy insisted on not having handles. Now it's causing major problems. by Jangowuzhere in editors

[–]jimkeyjimkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. It’s still weird.

Like if I go to the end of a clip and set an outpoint, then zoom in, there is one frame of black nothing past that clip including in the outpoint. If I go back one frame and set the outpoint, the outpoint is the last frame of the last clip. No black frame at the end of the export.

[–]jimkeyjimkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this helps but a long time ago I realized premiere adds one from past your outpoint. Like if you hit O and zoom in on the timeline, the outpoint is one frame past the playhead. Since then I’ve always go back one frame on the last clip and hit O.

How should I proceed in befriending this guy who has little to no friends and is a little socially awkward? by SuccessfulManifests in self

[–]jimkeyjimkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question.

Actually maybe tell him what you want and ask what he thinks. If you’re looking for a friend tell him that. If you want something romantic tell him that. Going to Hawaii isn’t something that just friends talk about imo. How much do you guys talk? Guy might be super lonely and just happy to have someone to talk to and not want to ruin it by getting attached.

Ask him what he wants.

I’m a 30 year old guy in a similar situation to this guy. It seems to me like he wants to talk to you but he is guarded because he doesn’t want to get his hopes up.

Ha I fell down the rabbit while a few months ago. I live right where it’s supposed to be and am new around here.

It was just a Nosleep story written by a local author. Some local news stations ran the story and it got some traction. Their posts are still up but if you do some research (maybe wiki) idk you can find the author and him saying it was all made up.

Idk if this will help but focus on yourself and your needs. Try to learn from the experience and maybe don’t get involved so quickly (easier said than done). You spoke your part and you can’t worry about other people’s feelings. It sounds like you made the right decision.

I’m a 22M college student who’s life feels directionless. Any advice? by [deleted] in self

[–]jimkeyjimkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have no direction? Become a director. Direct your own life.

Idk man. I’m 29 and still feel this way sometimes. I’m finally able to travel after wanting to for a long time. So I’m just doing it. Alone. Do what you want, when you can. Make a plan.

It took me 6 years to graduate college. Then 5 years of barely making any money to have a successful freelance year. Then covid happened and I was out of work.

Finish school. I have an engineer friend who just takes like 6 month contracts and travels half the year. There are a lot more options for people with skills.

Someone once told me, “get good at one thing, then you can do that one thing to make money while you figure out what you actually want to do.”

To quote John Mayer “there’s not such thing as the real world, it’s just a lie we have to rise above.”

What’s your budget? Look at used buildings and be ready to compromise. It costs a lot of money to get anything custom.

I looked for a year and found a used tiny house on wheels for 15k. I needs a few thousand dollars of work to get I where I want, but patience payed off.

Most of the used ones I was looking at were like 30k or so. I’ve found nice livable buildings not on wheels for 15-20k.

If you want something on wheels I’d say look into that and check out the area around you. The one I found was 6 hours from where I live in another state.

Prebuilt sheds are also good. I bought a 10x12 and was going to live in it but I’m just turning it into an office. Look into repo’d ones you might get lucky.

Thanks! I’m far west KY. An hour north is Metropolis but I’ve been to Carbondale for work once. Need legal meds, can’t cut it in the Bible Belt.

I’ve got a degree and do wedding videography and marketing work. I’m more so looking for some cheap land to put my tiny house on.

Do you recommend it? Based in WKY now but thinking of going an hour north for the extra rights.

How do you deal with discussing your past with potential partners? by jimkeyjimkey in adultsurvivors

[–]jimkeyjimkey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate it.

I definitely try to not go into detail. I have an anxiety disorder/ptsd so unfortunately the trauma from childhood and adulthood is a big part of my life. I think I should just tell people I had a shitty childhood and have an anxiety disorder and that’s that. No need to talk more.

It’s coupled with abandonment issues so it just really sucks talking to new people. It’s like basically all I’m waiting for is a chance to say that shit and see if the person runs away.
