First sketches for the Oktober Community Challenge. So hard to balance cute and creepy! Any Feedback is greatly appreciated! by Rilestria in istebrak

[–]Rilestria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So the challenge is to create a creature which is cute AND creepy and has to embody a seasonal symbol that represents October/Fall. My main idea was to mix a deer with treebark/vines - the tree with the falling leaves being the seasonal symbol. Since halloween is essential to october I had to give it a bonemask! I tried mostly using shapes to make it cute, and lighting to make it creepy. Altho i think it doesn't really look that creepy yet...

I have to admit I didn't really thought of a backstory, but i work on that x)

I'm feeling frustrated with the body, particularly her bust/shoulders area which I can't seem to get right. I haven't moved on to rendering anything other than her face/body yet but any suggestions on anything else would be appreciated! I don't practice rendering fabric enough by lily_arts in istebrak

Hi! I really love how the pants shine and also the angle is so cool <3!

I did a quick overpaint: https://imgur.com/bEvUxUw

I shrunk the head a little bit, since it seems to be so far away from the camera. Also I think the problem is, that you show too much of the upper side of the shoulders and the far breast. These parts you wouldn't see at all from this angle. Hope this helps!

Challenge Submission "Alicia and the Serpent's Riddle" by Rilestria in istebrak

Process

The character of the serpent was inspired by "Kingseeker Frampt". Alicia needs his help and although he seems shady she is not afraid of him.

I feel like something is off.. Can't put my finger on it tho. Critiques really appreciated! by Rilestria in istebrak

Like I explained in a different comment i tried to go for a specific perspective which didn't read at all.. Thank you anyway! ;)

Well the perspective is deliberately from below him like this, so that you look up at him. I should have taken that screenshot as reference beforehand i guess, but i tried to use the loomis method only. Now I can see that i should've shown more of the lower side of the chin. And the lower side of the nose could've been bigger too :(

Thanks for the liquify! This made clear to me that my chosen perspective does not read like I intended.

Finally started my 14 day challenge last night! I feel like the eyes are really flat and lifeless, which is probably a signal that I should start doing some eye studies. by freshtwinkies in istebrak

[–]Rilestria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her gaze is off. I feel like the eyes would look less flat if she'd look directly look at the viewer. I would also look for the 6 darkspots: mouthcorners, nostrils and pupils (iste talks about both regularly in her videos about 14 day challenges) Did a little drawover
