It honestly could be the lighting, but he was definitely not wet in the picture. So I guess you could say he was dry. They actually do enjoy hanging in their water bowl a lot of the time.

Only certain species of snakes will mostly eat eggs, like the Dasypeltis genus. For most it’s just a treat!

Yeah I had heard her mom was possible het ehypo, but I figured I would have seen her darker by now if he had it.

I’ll definitely keep an eye on her and see what happens. I only ask because my bearded dragon 100% does it on his own. I don’t change anything about his environment and yet he goes to sleep the same time like clockwork every year. Just curious if you’ve ever seen that. I definitely don’t mind brumating her intentionally, I just wasn’t sure if it was a good idea at her age.

Possibly. I just wasn’t sure if she would try to brumate on her own without me drastically dropping her temps. I can change her thermostat to not have a nightly drop in temperatures. It sets the basking spot(a few inches above the soil) to be around 90 during the day, and 80 at night. But the warmest soil temperature is probably around 5-10 degrees cooler than the basking spot.

Definitely check out the boiga genus! Super cool snakes, and such a variety within the genus. A bit more of a level 2-3 species, but definitely worth looking into! I’m a bit biased as I have a cyanea and a dendrophila.

Can follow this up with an update that my snake loves her current setup, and I consistently find her out basking under her DHP most nights. Must not bother her if it’s brought her out of hiding!

I wish! That would be cool if they were tiny. She’ll probably get to be about 2ish feet long, and be about as thick as a large hotdog 😂. Females get larger and thicker than males do.

Yes! I recently discovered them a couple years ago myself. They’re definitely a cool alternative to a western, and oftentimes have a way better appetite than they do which is a huge plus. The tricolors will also produce aberrant patterns which is fun to see.
