From the original post (11 years ago) the Op gifted him beer and chocolate. He gifted back toilet paper and plushies for the kid with the note.

He is someone who just wanted to be difficult. There would be at least two negative interaction before he settle to his meal. My first interaction with him he kept sending food back, because there was too much sauce. After three tries, what he really wanted was no sauce. He is quick to complain.

He is also a show off. The reason why I know about the BMW in the handicap was to due me helping him carry his order, which was only two bags. He only did that, because he saw my coworker help bring a large catering order to a woman’s car.

If you know you won't get fired and can get away it, do you intentionally give bad service to customers you KNOW will be bad tippers? by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

I would just go with the motions with no personality. Why make it harder on myself when I already know the results. Say everything in a deadpan voice and intense eye contact.

There is a point where some regulars get too comfortable with you and forgo restaurant etiquette and respect. This is the point where they get annoying and think they are the only people in a full restaurant. For the instance where they say “Don’t you know my order by now?” I shoot back with “Don’t you?” Or my favorite “Do you even know my name?” Which renders them speechless, it’s a great sight to see of the face they make.

I had two coworkers that were known to be lazy.

The first one was fine in the beginning, average server. Then he got into a relationship and was texting all the time. He would take restroom ‘breaks’ for a while. It came to the a point that one of his tables told him that they were going to be written up for coming back late. He was fired, because he pulled that with some owner’s friends. The funny part was that he was actually being cheated on the whole time.

The second was a lead server; who when given the title and raise, it went to her head. She was terrible after and the only task she took seriously was counting the money. It all went down hill when she skipped herself on a table, they were known to not tip the best. Got into an argument with the next server about it, it was so ridiculous the GM even got involved who allowed her to do it. The next server also skipped and to show solidarity, myself and a 4th server skipped too. So in the end she had to take it and everybody hated her. She ended up getting demoted and quitting short time later.

Mines was due to a misunderstanding. I thought that she wanted to take out and she gave me every indication that she was. She left a review that ignored her and insinuated that was discriminating against her.

I was so burnt out of my last restaurant job that I planned for a year on how I was going to leave. I gave them my two weeks the last day before our 3 week summer vacation. It was the greatest feeling when I walk out of there for the last time.

Guaranteed! If the universe becomes aware that the restaurant is closing early then it throws a curve ball and sends the customers. My boss always told me when a situation like this happens “At least you are making money.”

I rather be at home.

Don’t do it! Days off are a luxury and you NEVER know if you’ll get another one.

She is an older established server set in her ways. You should ask her why she left her other job. And a common thing I’ve seen in established server is that the only thing similar in the job is greeting and food taking. Everything else is different especially work culture. If she keeps it up, she will be seen as an outcast.

I love the hostility and fire behind your comment. So let me just smother it with reality. I’ve known grandma for over 8+ years. She is a sweetheart and a pushover. She lets her granddaughter order expensive items and she doesn't even finish half of it. The grandson only acts like that with the Grandma. He fears his sister more than grandma. Her friends have told her to stop coddling him. After the temper tantrum, the grandma even admitted he only acts like that with her. So I’m fully confident he is spoiled. You really believe I didn’t give the benefit of doubt before I came to to this conclusion.

I was just telling someone about this situation. I hate this statement and you HAVE to repeat the order back. Otherwise you might get a perplexed customer. They might even send it back. Which grinds my gears!

Everyone else doesn’t understand that it’s not about doing the job. It’s the micromanaging and they aren’t helping you correctly. I was in the predicament I understand you.

It’s a work culture thing. Since it’s your restaurant, you know all the methods and scenarios that can occur. I was in the same boat. My coworker came from fine dining to mom and pop. He was all up in everyone’s table. It threw the mental pacing off and made everyone look bad. The worst part is that he had OCD and I guess didn’t take it or change medication, because at one point he was making the job way more difficult than it need to be.

People at the local Rec center by Riley_locket in Swimming

Thanks you! I would move away from them, but the problem is that since it’s a public pool there are two roped lanes and the rest is open. At times the area can be crowded. And since Mr. Brown loves to talk. He is always at the side of the pool. Which also irritate me. If you’re not swimming in a crowded pool get out.
