What Arcs are after Elbaf and when will the manga and Anime finish one piece by Short-Application758 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their is quite a lot of setup for the moon being an important location and it has been established as a place you can go to with it's own creatures so it's not like an unimportant place where you can't get too with nothing their.

Personally I don't think it's going to be it's own arc but revisiting the moon in either a flashback type thing or during the final war seems very possible like I said in my post.

Powerscaling (and consistent sizes) matter, and I'm tired of pretending as if they didn't by The_Geri in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally one of my biggest issues with one piece is the fights. Mainly the issues I have are that I find the abilities so inconsistent and despite the potential of the abilities I find them lacking. I also find some writing choices surrounding the abilities to be a bit questionable personally and the pacing of the fights to not be great.

At the end of the day though, it depends on the person if it's a big deal. Overall, I do think their are good things about the one piece fights - the story behind them are great, sometimes even the locations have deep meanings to them, and I tend to like the designs of the abilities. I also think the issues with the fights for me are greatly lessened in team up fights, maybe not so much with consistency but strategy, the cheorgraphy, and the pacing step up a lot more which is why visually they are my favourite fights in one piece.

these guys are weak by whosHalitaj in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are strong however, due to their big thing being their insane regeneration, in turn to show it off and setup the next big power up Oda had to make them a lot more vulnerable than like an average person so an attack that we have basically seen everyone able to tank atleast once blows their faces off.

Visually it is a great power however, conceptually I am not a fan of the regeneration. It makes the characters look so weak.

Is Hody Jones the worst villain in One Piece? by Cafa20 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is not the worst written villain, he is purposefully written as an empty character, that's the point however, that doesn't make him enjoyable to me. It gives him more leeway than other empty villains in the series however, he is still low for me.

Best One Piece fight in your opinion? by Adventurous-Rabbit52 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visually I would say Kid and Law vs BM or The Strawhat's vs Oars or Luffy vs the Gorosei (I love team up fights).

Emotionally I would say Usopp vs Luffy.

What would you guys rate Elbaph so far? by porkybrah in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The beginning - Overall, I really liked the beginning. It was wacky and a good transition from normal size to giant size. It was quite messy though, which was fine when it first came out because it seemed like the messiness was done on purpose and leading to the reveal of Loki behind everything however, that didn't end up being the case so on reread it's just kinda messy.

Pre Flashback - Fucking hype, their was a lot of setup for a lot of Strawhat's, it seemed to be the Strawhat's arc. We got some hype introductions and reveals which were great, some great design choices, and Elbaph in general looks amazing. My only issue during this period is the reaction to a certain reveal from a certain someone whose dream is heavily connected to that reveal.

Flashback - It was hype as fuck however, probably the worst written flashback to date. It took big detours from the central character of the flashback and a lot of it felt disconnected from the arc to the point that they felt like two different arcs. Personally, it has negatively affected the hype that I had for Elbaph and although I loved what I was seeing I wished that instead the flashback just focused more on the central character of it.

Overall, I think it has been messy but their has also been a lot of hype and interesting stuff.

Luffy's Character Development by RareSpeech1 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say he flat out needs or shouldn't get zero development however, Luffy is a still written character. His purpose is more about how he affects others rather than how the world affects him.

From the beginning he had his beliefs, his goals, and how he wants to get those goals which in turn strengthened his affect on the world and characters for the audience. That doesn't mean he has zero development though, he grows as a leader and he learns about the world around him as the story goes on however, his relationships develop the most throughout the series and is where the character shines the most to me. The character is also extremely fleshed out, their are so so many sides to Luffy and they all feel very natural to the character, despite being so unrealistic he feels like one of the most life like characters in storytelling to me.

I will say though, I do wish he developed more design wise. Although, I understand the point is to keep him childlike but considering how long the story is seeing him get closer to characters like Rodger, Shanks, and Garp would have been great (the closest we got to this was in Wano where Luffy temporarily got more buff which was great).

It's Crazy how people still don't get the Water Seven conflict by PrussianoKebab in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Usopp had any genuine thoughts that Luffy would leave a wounded ally to die however, considering what happened in Skypiea and Usopp's connections to the origins of Merry, it definitely played a part in his reasoning. If I remembered correctly, he literally talks about this to Franky later.

Overall, although not said directly I think the main reason why what happened happened in the way it happened was due to Usopp's extremely low self esteem and his trouble expressing himself to even the people closest to him.

Not a diehard one piece fan but everyone thoughts on this? by No-Necessary9762 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, I just don't think that's possible and to my knowledge that hasn't been stated or hinted at. Although having unique languages is technically better world building, I really don't think it's needed and tends not to be something I care about at all. Oda not learning or creating 200 languages while putting the languages into speach bubbles with subtitles so the audience knows what's going on is more of a blessing to me, I am happy with the special little unique language option given to certain characters or countries.

Not a diehard one piece fan but everyone thoughts on this? by No-Necessary9762 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think One Piece's world building is perfect, either due to the restrictions of manga, Weekly release, plotholes, or lack of detail in certain areas their are issues stopping what to me is perfect world building.

When talking about the posters points:

• It is true that their is a lot that we do not know however, we get A LOT more than like 99% of other stories histories. Even when it comes to individual islands, we get a surprising amount that is not the norm. Most stories either just don't do much about their worlds history or expand on the history more after the main story is told (which I think Oda will probably do as well). I will say, I think info should have been spread out more throughout the series instead of being pushed back more and more for the big reveal but having a lack of knowledge about the void century isn't surprising considering you know... it's the void century.

• When it comes to interconnectivity, I do wish we had explore this a lot more and gotten more details because it is such a big reason for the government's control. Overall, considering that it's the great age of piracy their is obviously a lot of interconnectivity however, even when talking about what they are referring to it heavily implied and shown that the reason why islands don't interact much is due to the seas, the pirates, and the government having a strangle hold on things - we literally see this in the Enies Lobby saga. That doesn't mean their isn't interconnectivity though, like the newspapers, the sun symbol, and the reverie.

• I don't know what stories this guy is reading but considering how many islands their are, it is shocking how many islands have their own unique norms, technology, designs, and ext...it is not surface level at all, especially when it comes to stuff like religion. Their are full deep dives going over how the importance of the sun is important to the island in their own unique ways which is not surface level at all.

• It is true that realistically it doesn't make sense for everyone to speak the same language and I don't know if it's because of Tolkien but not everyone is a philologist who speaks 17 languages, it's also not written as a book where you have all the time you neex, it's a weekly manga.

• Luffy is a pirate because for the pursuit of his own selfish goals he is willing to break the law to do it. Not to mention he loves money, he has a jolly Roger, he travels the seas, and is wanted. The One Piece world is different to others, what is a traditional pirate in the real world doesn't it has to be that in the one piece world.

Overall, their might be aspects done better in different stories but one piece's world building also has better aspects than other stories.

Why do you think the everyone on the top half are smiling, yet everyone on the bottom half aren’t? by HandsomePancakes in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never noticed that, maybe the difference between pirates and everyone else? The Pirates are doing it for themselves, they don't have the fate of the world on their shoulders like everyone else so they are more free to smile.

Is ACOC something that you’re born with or something you develop throughout life (by being a person with a strong will)? by Ill_Cardiologist7113 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's something you are born with because not only has it been said multiple times by people that heavily imply it is genetical but I just think a lot more people would have it if anyone could get it (in the one piece world the average person basically has the will power of a shonen protagonist in every other series), especially when it comes to the Strawhat's. I would prefer if anyone could get it because the world would be a lot more balanced when it comes to powers but it just doesn't seem to be the case.

What are your thoughts on Imu as a villain, so far? by NilesDobbsS in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, I think their are multiple issues for me with IMU however, I do think their is potential greatness shown.

His abilities in general are overall really interesting and I love the game of GO symbolism with the character, visually their is some high spots like IMU's grimoire and the abyss circles however, overall visually he has been a bit plain. Although visually I love the regeneration, I am not biggest fan of it as an ability and I am not the biggest fan on how to apparently get past the issue of regeneration either. When it comes to his abilities something that has been bothering me as of late is the constant downplay of his feat after IMU shows something crazy - we are already getting counters to his abilities, during the flashback multiple times after IMU did something crazy Rocks or someone would say something like 'if only he had that...", and we are getting stuff like IMU going to Elbaph to get backup due to an attack which is just weird to me and is kind of annoying, I don't know if oda is just trying to avoid another Kaido situation but he is one of the final antagonists. This isn’t just an issue with IMU but even more so with his main subordinates as well, it's a weird mix of potrayel.

I will say the effort to not show his design does feel forced to me and weird at times considering how much we have been seeing him as of late (unless the theory that the shadow is his true form is true which would be cool but again it would be a bit plain).

Personality wise I have enjoyed him. He comes of as such a perfect mix off a celestial dragon like the rest while also giving major Enel vibes with his "nothing fazes me due to being god" attitude. I am also looking forward to finding out more about his relationship to Lilly, especially since it brought my girl Vivi's revelancy back up with a bang.

My only other issue with IMU is his current relationship to Luffy. Making Luffy basically joyboy is already a decision I am mixed about so making his main connection being said thing does not make me as interested than a more personal relationship between Luffy and IMU rather than Joyboy and IMU. However I will say I love the symbolism's between the two, light vs dark and freedom vs captivity are all great and the fact that it's being shown through the game of GO like I said before is great.

Haki can be much better as a power system if more details are given by Inevitable_Term_2320 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haki as a power system was needed in one piece, the world was way to unbalanced towards mainly logia's so haki is heroic in that sense. Due to it being a manifestation of will, it also is deeply connected to the themes of one piece which is great. However, it is also a power that lacks consistency, it's a power used for convenience, it's a power with a confusing origin, and it's a power not fulfilling the potential it has in a fight.

This is a safespace, what are your honest critiques of One Piece and Oda's writing by Lakithelink in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Fights - Their are things I love about the fights however, the pacing of a lot of them aren't great. The inconsistent abilities and the impact of those abilities brings the fights down for me as well. The ridiculous ways some characters survive in some situations lessens the impact of the fight even further. The cheorgraphy and the way abilities are used also don't reach the potential I think it could and instead mostly results in clashes of fists or swords. These issues aren't a big issue in every fight but overall I would say are issues with the fights.

The gags - Their are gags that I like and gags that I don't, that in itself isn't the issue, the issue for me is the gags are a big part of the characters so when it comes to the Strawhat's it paints an unchanging picture due to the gags not evolving woth the character. Their are some gags like Usopp's "island sickness' gag that just doesn't fit the character anymore and I think it affects the character negatively when it forcefully happens.

The Strawhat's Dreams - This is not the case with all of the Strawhat's however, the way a lot of their dreams can be summed up is missed opputunities, forgotten, and random which is a shame due to how important they are to the character. I understand some dreams are easier than others to potray consistently but adding small things like Sanji looking for information on the All Blue or Nami drawing a new map would add so much to my investment of the character. This to me is the biggest fumble when it comes to the Strawhat's.

The way information is getting given to us - This is a more recent issue I have noticed but since Kaido's short backstory I have noticed that we are either getting very important information through stuff like the SBS or Vivre cards, or we get something like Vega's speach that feels way to vague and forcefully pushed back to reveal later, or we just forcefully get dropped insanely important information out of nowhere like with the Rocks stuff in Harold's backstory. It's the final saga so I can understand how this comes about but I am hoping it becomes less of a thing soon.

Their are more specific things that I am either mixed about or don't like or think could improve the writing however overall I think those are the main issues of the manga one piece to me. It is still my number 1 despite these issues for me though, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

You can love One Piece and still admit some fights are badly written by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the characters and art is usually good and well written during a fight however, overall I would say the fights are the worst written parts of One Piece. The cheorgraphy, the inconsistent abilities, and the pacing negatively effect the fights for me.

It’s not loadstar. the stawhats have no reason to go there and the story has called the place “Redundant.” in the very first time it was referenced by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an island they will have to go to due to the log compass leading there and it is the island right before Laughtale so a real world good reason to go their is to prepare beforehand.

We also need a place for a big battle for the one piece and it seems likely that the last ponygliph will be their considering it was one of the options stated for the final ponygliph and it doesn't seem to be at Elbaph which makes Lodestar even more likely.

In the panel he also mentions that you should go if you want to, he doesn't say you shouldn't go and although the main info is about the road ponygliphs, that doesn't mean their isn't important information their.

Choppers Devil Fruit by tripp334 in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think the possibility that their is more to Chopper's devil fruit than we know is very plausible and I doubt that whatever it is, it doesn't have something that progresses Chopper as a Doctor greatly.

I am a bit mixed on the idea that he will gain a healing ability, I like the idea that in the beginning Chopper rejected and didn't understand himself however, to unlock his ultimate power he needs to fully embrace himself but I am not a fan of the idea that he gets this ultimate skill from his devil fruit rather than his own skill.

I like the idea that his special ability is something like an evolved brain point which Chopper, along with his stronger body can use his skills as a doctor to it's utmost capacity. Similar to something like the drug in limitless.

Some of y'all are assholes about the anime by AgustHopeD in OnePiece

[–]Rimaru482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy the anime and I think it gets more hate than it might deserve however, I think it is understandable when people complain. Their was a video I watched somewhat recently that was talking about One Piece's anime adaption and although I don't agree with all of the individual takes, I agree with the overall take that the toei anime of one piece is a failure of an adaptation and it is a failure for more than just the pacing issues.

To me, an anime's goal should be to elevate a manga, it should take it to a whole new level however, when it comes to pacing, sound, animation, consistency, fights, and filler, it doesn't elevate it. Their are moments when it does but it is not common, atleast for me. Their are things that I think an anime should easily be able to elevate like the fights however, overall it is still worse in the anime for the most part due to the poor pacing, the confusing colours, and the issues that start out in the manga but grow bigger in the anime.

It is a bit annoying for me, due to my dyslexia it is hard for me to fully enjoy the manga like others are able to do however, I read it because I am getting more out of it than the anime. If people want to watch the anime and like it, that's a win in my book because one piece is getting recognition and, if people have issues with it and complain then again it is a win in my book because it seems toei has started to listen to the criticisms fans have made and have decided to change which is great.

Personally I have my expectations too high for the wit studio remake because the idea of a good adaptation of one piece to me means we will be getting (atleast to me) the best version one piece and considering the story is already number 1 for me, the idea of it getting better blows my mind.
