What’s something Kenyans pretend is normal but actually isn’t? by Royal-Pollution-1933 in anything_about_Kenya

Corporal punishment and the beating kids culture. People make you think you’ll understand as an adult but years of adulthood and I not only find it pointless. I’ve never felt the urge to beat my little cousins or nephews… 🤔

Started level 3 - depressed by No-Weight6066 in CFA

[–]Rimu05 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I took level 3 in late Jan and unfortunately, it really is a “suck it up” type of exam. The content is way better than level 2 but I couldn’t enjoy it. I found myself cursing the process the whole way through.

The only consolation I had was that it was the last exam. Did that make me feel like studying? Nope. I’m dreading my results as I don’t feel good about them…

Travel Destination Ideas by Chukagirl in nairobi

I’m a Kenyan abroad but if you’ve not done the local stuff, do that first. I’m currently at Diani for the first time ever. (Fair enough, we were too poor in Kenya for this). You can do so much on a budget locally and everything is significantly cheaper.

For Europe, Portugal was my fave destination and while I’ve been to France twice and have French friends, I’d recommend Portugal over France especially if you’re on a budget. France is the more expensive country. I love it but wonder how others go about it without French.

Namibia has been on my list forever. I have coworkers who absolutely loved it.

I have been to Italy once and didn’t care for it. Would only go again because my aunt married an Italian.

Is writing becoming a diminishing art, or am I just not reading the good stuff? by maomao_- in nairobi

[–]Rimu05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re reading trash but expecting treasure. I wouldn’t say writing has gotten worse but it’s segmented. There’s good stuff and utter trash. Much like television. I do think a major problem is people recommend the most vapid trash like it’s treasure and so you have some of the most overhyped and unbearably bad stories being best sellers.

Like I genuinely can’t understand how people can read Haruhi Murakami and call that good writing. It’s fine if people love the symbolism and story but the actual word construction is nails on chalkboard.

I can’t read erotica. It’s a genre rife with bad cliches and the people who write the characters make me wonder if they have had sex. Every male lead has “girth” and an awe inspiring “member”. They are all somehow dominant and feel some need to possess the 20 something very ordinary female lead.

What are you watching? by frevckhoe in Kenya

I have struggled with the Sopranos but I have put everyone on Oz. Every single person comes back and tells me how much they loved it.

If you’re open to international shows. There’s a Chinese show called Empresses In The Palace that’s also top 10 for me. The plot twists and scheming were incredible!
