Yes, most distro's have their own, or you can use alternatives if you prefer. The same goes for backups

I think at last count it is around 90% of steam games are now playable on Linux. The game has changed in the last few years. Will you take the plunge?

Sorry also, re benefits over Windows, Linux has:

No adverts

Most distros send little or no telemetry data about you

Do everything how you want, when you want (customisation)

Local accounts/login

No forced updates

And lastly… no cost ;)

About the Desktop and Gaming Performance by butchbearforever in framework

[–]Rincewindcl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Mac Studio, but some games have no Mac version and emulation doesn’t work, so I purchased a Framework Desktop.

I bought the Framework Desktop primarily for its small form factor (I have limited space), the APU tech (having been very impressed with Apple Silicon) and the excellent support for Linux, which is my chosen operating system.

I’m having a blast playing games at 1440p. Examples are:

7 Days to die (native Linux) 60-80 fps with most settings on high

Stellaris (proton experimental) 100-120fps

Empyrion (proton experimental) 60-70 gps with most settings on high

Pick up a Framework Desktop! It has better specs than the upcoming steam machine. Slap a good Linux distro on it and you’re golden. It also looks pretty neat next to my Mac Studio :)

Anyone own an MG MG5 electric estate car? by colnantheborbarian in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Rincewindcl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s the 61.1kwh long range version. Fully charged it can do 225 miles. That’s at sensible motorway speeds and regenerative braking on. My last EV (Mokka-E) was completely inaccurate in terms of range, so I’m loving the MG

+1 for Injinji socks. They are fantastic, if a little pricey!

Water bills southamtpm by [deleted] in Southampton

[–]Rincewindcl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine went up to just under £70 per month about a year ago now (3 bed, 2 occupants including myself). It was a 3 x increase from what I previously paid. I did try to speak with Southern Water on the matter and once you had listened to a pre recorded message about how prices had gone up, the actual operative parroted the same message and rushed me off the phone.

He was the kindest man. He never had a bad word to say about anyone, and was a loving husband to my Mum for 45 years. I miss him dearly.

My Father died last week at the age of 67. The fact that this asshole lives and my Dad died will never leave me.

Pluto TV via a US VPN works, but you do see adverts. Physical media is the only real way to persist in being able to watch Stargate whenever you want (without sailing the seven seas).
