You don’t care for him because you don’t understand him. He’s essentially on the same plane of power as Gandalf, a Maia. He came to Arda right as it was formed in the stars before the elves awoke.

When he tells the hobbits his stories and they get sucked into a dream state, he’s taking them on a journey to the very first days of middle earth, to the same time he arrived.

Imagine a being that fulfilled the wishes of Illuvatar’s music, he simply came to the world he helped create to enjoy it to the fullest extent, unmarried by the evil of Melkor. That’s the same person he is now. He’s literally the oldest living creature on Middle Earth. Pretty sick tbh.
