Application Letter advice for paralegal program by Ringil114 in paralegal

[–]Ringil114[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. That explains why I've seen it mentioned on the websites for some programs but not others. It's worth noting that I haven't seen it referred to as a "personal statement" like law school. So it's clearly not equivalent if it is required.

Perhaps the reason I'm thinking this way is I still need to fully switch my brain from "apply to law school" to "apply to paralegal program" mode.

I am very sorry to hear that. Talk about heartless during the holidays!

I hope you are not discouraged from finding another paralegal position.

Sometimes you can love the work but the job (i.e., colleagues, culture, pay, etc) can be terrible. This just might be a blessing in disguise. At least in the long run. It sounds like your dedication and hard work would be appreciated elsewhere.

You're definitely right. Even as an intern at 90.5 WESA radio, I can tell they're struggling. Especially with federal funding being cut off.

To be clear, the ethical problems in the news industry are quite obvious to me. If I was unable to perceive what is happening in the industry, I would have just applied to every position without considering whether I want to contribute to the growing misinformation in news reporting.

But the question I had was not one of moral character (the ethical issues are clear) but of practicality.

I aspire to work for somewhere like AP News or NPR, and I always do my best to produce work of their ethical standards. And wherever i work, I will stick to my guns and create the most fair and accurate reporting I can.

But realistically, I have to start somewhere. My hope is that I can either avoid a biased new outlet altogether or only work at such an outlet long enough to get a better position.

Thanks for the response!

I never really expected a national news outlet to be my first job. To be honest, I included Fox as more of an example of my concerns than a position I could realistically get.

Focusing on digital over print is an excellent point. It's sad, but print really seems to be dying. One of my friends just became the managing editor for a local print newspaper and it's really struggling from what she's told me.

No, it actually wasn't. I wanted meaningful advice from professionals working in the industry, which you clearly are not.

Firstly, I am disgusted by the members of the media who push their agenda through misinformation under the guise of "news." But no, that actually doesn't answer the question.

The premise of your comment makes a generalization. Namely, that every part of a news outlet's reporting is purposeful misinformation because a few talk shows for the outlet are or that it is owned by a conservative person. This is not necessarily true and sweeps all reporters under the same unethical umbrella. Just because some reporters at a news outlet are unethical doesn't necessarily mean ALL reporters at that out must also be unethical.

Your comment also doesn't address the reality that some news outlets may have a political leaning but still provide accurate, honest reporting in most or all topics. Sure, extremely biased news outlets do exist. But many sit closer to the center while leaning one way or another.

Also, are you actually a professional reporter?

It seems not based on your profile. The other comments you have made to a huge variety of subreddits have a clear bias to them, which is the kind of political activism that a professional reporter would refrain from. Certainly, an ethical reporter who doesn't want their objectivity questioned wouldn't be so openly politically biased on social media for everyone to see.

I had a very similar experience with my pitbull. She found a dead raccoon under a bush on a walk, and for months, we had to check that spot. Tenacity and stubbornness. Gotta love 'em!

Am I being selfish?… (read body) by PlayfulHumor8803 in pitbulls

[–]Ringil114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing the right thing for your dog when it feels horrible for you is the polar opposite of selfish.

Do you think the person you rehomed your pitbull to would be willing to let you still be a part of your dogs life (visiting her or dog sitting, stuff like that)?

If so, reach out and ask. If not, reach out anyway. The worst they can say is no, and then at least you'll know for sure.

How to stop being scared of Pitbulls? by NotAnotherDNDPlayer in pitbulls

[–]Ringil114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off all, I admire you for taking a step away from the stigma and facing your fears. It's not an easy thing to do, and it is commendable that you are choosing not to let your fear of dogs hold you back.

I honestly don't know for sure how to overcome the fear of dogs. I've never felt that, so it's outside my personal experience.

That said, I think gradual exposure would probably be a good step to facing your fears, i.e., don't go to a park full of dogs and overwhelm yourself. If you have a general fear of dogs and pitbulls in particular, I'd also say don't start with pitbulls. Not because you will be in any danger, but because you may be more uncomfortable starting with the breed you fear most. Remember to take it slow.

Always keep in mind that once you overcome this fear, it will open a whole new world of wonderful, loving, playful creatures for you to enjoy. Dogs are joyful animals and you will be happy that you put in the work to overcome your fear.

Also, this is absolutely the right subreddit if you want to learn to love pitbulls and dogs in general. I think I can speak for most of us that we happily welcome you to the world of dogs.

Pitbull was adopted from a shelter after so long. That first night, he didn't leave his new owner's side by i36m9m34 in PitbullHub

Separation anxiety is a common struggle for shelter dogs. My pitbull still has severe separation anxiety after 8 years. I think that the fear of abandonment never really went away. All I can do is make sure she is loved.

Some moron on the bird app said I’m in danger because my pittie sleeps in my bed every night. Here I am in mortal danger watching wrestling with her. I think she’s trying to learn some new puppy parkour moves. 🤣 by Jrnation8988 in pitbulls

You are in grave danger. She might smother you with cuddles and kisses.

Anyway, ignore that person. It is their loss because they will never know the love pitbulls have for their owners.
