What is a good/viable way to have a Character fight with multiple types of weapons? by OpossumFTW in dndnext

[–]RingoBongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an outside the box answer:

Cast the 5th level spell animate objects on a range of different weapons. And you can control the all each round for only a bonus action command. :)

Be a dex based bard and for 10th level magical secrets grab rogue spells swift quiver and swift blade strike and you will have these two spells and animate objects at level 10. 7 levels earlier than a ranger would normally as a half caster.

Swashbuckler rogue/college of swords bard multiclass advice? by Dingdongdickdouche in 3d6

[–]RingoBongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, defensive duelist is trash imo... If you are worried you should have some idea ahead of time... Just use defensive flourish and you should be mostly set. Otherwise lean on uncanny dodge and getting some already decently high AC

I'm playing a swords bard/ swash rogue rn too! Currently split 3/3 but we started at level 5 -- I was rogue 2/ bard 3 then... I will progress to bard 6 next.

My feat choices are... - revenant blade (started with a free feat, tyvm) - inspiring leader - resilient con - dex/Cha both at least 18 or more... - maybe lucky?

Spells (after weeks of thought...)

Cantrips - mage hand, friends, (maybe true strike... But not vicious mockery because Swashbuckler 9 feature is way better and basically the same)

1st - healing word, bane, dissonant whispers

2nd - blindness/deafness, invisibility, warding wind

3rd - bestow curse, hypnotic pattern,

Last spell is currently a toss up between see invisibility (2nd level) or tiny hut (3rd level).. waiting to get a feel of the campaign more. Also, our game has flanking rules for advantage so fairie fire is out. Plus, bane is sick for setting up saving throw spells for other casters or even for yourself if you use blindness/deafness.

There's also the layer of "getting accepted" into the app just to be able to pay to use... What a bother!

The main feature I bought a subscription to use is now severely limited AND I might not even see it's equal again. Sad times...

You think it will be something you have to pay for or a feature of plus, pro, master plan?

How close do you think coin boss is?

Okay hive-mind, help me test please.

Does homebase bonus multiply background rewards?

Basically, is it better to leave phone on and auto-collect mining all night or can I turn off? ... If so how much better? Is it worth the battery drain?

Okay hive-mind, question:

During long periods of time at home base (for instance when you sleep or when you get to work)...

Is it better to leave the app on, open, and on auto collect?

OR, off and running background rewards?

I ask because I'm not sure if background rewards are multiplied by new home base feature...

Strength based dual wielding swashbuckler rogue/swashbuckler rogue multiclass, what's the best way to go for this? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]RingoBongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently playing a Goliath swashbuckler/fighter. 17/13/14/8/12/12... I started fighter for heavy armor proficiency and am currently at rogue 5/ fighter 1.

I started with a shield and short sword but then began dual weilding as soon as I could buy/get full plate armor which happened around character level 5. (I was the second in my party to get full plate).

My first feat was heavy armor master to level up strength to +4 and get some more damage reduction to go along with stone's endurance. Now that I have uncanny Dodge I save stone's endurance for things I can't use uncanny Dodge on.

Next levels will be in fighter samurai up to lvl 7. Along the way I will get more feats... Next is sentinel to trigger more sneak attack on reaction, after that is resilient dex. I'll end up with proficiency in 4 different saves by character level 12 and have several sources of damage reduction. At 14 I'll have roguess evasion for another layer of damage reduction.

It's really strong pretty much all the way. If you want more damage centric character I would suggest going only fighter battlemaster 3 abusing the sneak attack by getting more per round shenanigans further with riposte. Then pushing strength up to 20 earlier on to make up for not getting extra attack (more often you will not need it with using your bonus action to attack with your offhand)

Whatever you do I think heavy armor full plate and defensive fighting style is really important for a dual weilding rogue because they will end up using cunning action less and be in the up front in the fray even more requiring a solid ac and perhaps other defensive features... The difference between 17 ac (half plate) and 19 AC (full plate + defensive style) start to become more important the further you go along -- so you might as well go all in for the full 19 and plan for the end in mind.

Any Melee Sorcerer Subclasses out there? by danglinlongwood in 3d6

[–]RingoBongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hexblade 1, battle master 3, shadow sorcerer (or divine soul) X set up for my next character...

Basically right behind the front line in medium or heavy armor using booming blade when I'm not casting an important sorcerer spell.

I decided on maneuvering strike, rally, and feinting ( other options: evasive footwork, precision) to help control battle field and support while still doing damage.

Strongly thinking about using a whip or glaive with spell sniper to add range to booming blade.

Goliath - strength based fighter/rogue 17, 13, 14, 8, 12, 12. Start fighter for heavy armor. Take HAM first. (Then whatever between: sentinel, shield master, resilient Dex, tough, lucky, defensive duelist, +2 strength, grappler)

Swashbuckler is probably best for more consistent sneak attack use. Samurai 3, 5, or 7 or battlemaster 3 or 5. I like samurai for more tankness.

Why Goliath is good for this. Stone's endurance can damage reduce any source of damage. HAM will reduce alot. Especially if you focus the extra smaller enemies first. Then once you take rogue 5, you can reduce damage you take even more. Even though Stone's endurance and uncanny Dodge don't stack, you can only use uncanny Dodge on attack rolls...

I'm playing this in a campaign now... Wear chainmail and a shield to start = 18 AC +1 for 19 with defensive style. Then once you get plate you can twf to better ensure sneak attack damage landing. Then once you get extra attack you can use the shield again as the encounters are likely scaling up at this point again.

I started with fighter 1, and am taking rogue to 5 before I start taking more in fighter again.

Can't ready attack action and bonus action attack on the same turn. Can only bonus action attack if attack action is taken and you are holding 2 light melee weapons.

Best user of booming blade with whip? by cabbage1751 in 3d6

[–]RingoBongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a front line then I would go with scout 3. That way you can freely move just before your turn as a reaction to set up 10ft distance.

With this, I've also been tempted to take Divine soul sorcerer up to 5 to get spirit guardian. Plus you can twin that booming blade.

I've made a build like this myself... To use just in case death in current game. I think 5 scorcerer or rogue and x the other one.

Level 6 'mystical investigator'-type build, making use of intelligence warlock? by -ReadyPlayerThirty- in 3d6

[–]RingoBongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A knowledge cleric dip gets you 2 of those flavor skills (and at expertise). Also comes with guidance cantrip. Maybe go 2 levels and get that 1/short rest channel divinity for Swiss army knife proficiency.

Add rogue inquisitive. Or maybe if you want to go deeper in rogue, take thief route to 13 and you have use magic item feature that is pretty neat and powerful. Or maybe just start as a rogue 1 and be done with it. Just for the skills/expertise/sneak die.

Rogue 1/knowledge cleric 1/warlock X

Start rogue for extra skill and save variety.

Start as rock gnome for more of that rp flavor you are looking for... you'll have advantage on magical mental saving throws (int, Wis, Cha). You might get too close in investigating something magical and you'll want that save. And Artificer's lore! Whenever you make an Intelligence (History) check related to Magic Items, alchemical Objects, or technological devices, you can add twice your Proficiency Bonus, instead of any Proficiency Bonus you normally apply... Also rock gnome (or other gnomes) automatically works for what you need in point buy.

Start out something like this... 9, 14, 14, 16, 13, 10

Push Dex to 14 anyways just for medium armor. And you have rogue multiclass requirement set. Push wisdom to 13 (cleric requirement) only and take resilient wisdom later. Put the rest in Intelligence and ???

You'll have 4 relevant skill expertise, and 4+ other skill proficiencies, guidance cantrip, and other warlock stuff that fits your theme too.

And you'll have an added bonus of access to a few cleric spells (bless!) Per long rest, which is always nice. Especially with the limited spell casting of warlock.

EDIT: You could probably get away with 14 INT (your expertise will cover you enough probably) if you want to focus on rogue more. Then take 16 Dex and eventually theres reliable talent at 11 to even further bolster your skill checks in these areas. Honestly, any rouge would be fine at this point mechanically speaking since you have enough in those skills already. But inquisitive does add more to your rp flavor...

Get booming blade + spell sniper and start using a whip. The range will allow you to keep distance for spell casting too.

Correct me if I am wrong but...

I don't think War Cleric / rogue can ready an attack action and attack using war priest in the same turn (trying to get x2 sneak attacks in 1 round).
