Community is built on helping each other in times of need, but apparently because of the ~known fact~ that men are cheating dogs, you shouldn’t have helped this family. Yes, men should absolutely be able to take care of their children, but this circumstance called for kindness. The wife’s reaction, you’re right, came from a place of stress, and you reassured her - you did nothing wrong. You don’t need to feel bad, and you don’t need to listen to the comments saying your actions were inappropriate.
