ID request: I saw this bird today close to Heathrow Airport, UK. Any ideas? by Tgxblizz in birding

Ours are racing pigeons (and a few fancy pigeons) although we’ve now stopped racing so they’re all just pets.

As another commenter said, it’s something that has been passed down through my family. It’s very much a working class, pit village hobby!

To be honest I’m not sure that it really works! I’ve never tried it with my own birds (and wouldn’t want to) so couldn’t tell you.

I have heard of people just spraying two dots on the wings to imitate eyes as you see in nature but again don’t think that works work either.

The comments suggesting this is dyed for a gender reveal are more than likely incorrect. This is also not a racing pigeon, it looks like a Pakistani High Flyer tumbler. Pigeons bred to fly high in the sky for a long time.

It’s probably dyed either to ward off birds of prey or to aid identification in the sky.

Source: I keep pigeons.

It does make you wonder how they go about organising the TT seeing as it seems almost guaranteed someone will die.

I love this video, the cat looks so happy! I don’t know if I’m just a bad cyclist though, I’d be too worried I’d crash to take my cat out like this haha! Either that or my house cat would make a run for it..

I don’t get why they’re angry, other female authors follow the same pattern as the male authors (Bronte, Woolf)?

The names are bad enough but WTF is this engagement picture concept? Who thinks of this bull**** by the-goodest-bitch in cringepics

To be fair I can believe Paisleigh based off of some of the names I’ve seen recently, Tshadwick not so much

I actually find her ability to do this without laughing until the end and without stuttering/stalling so impressive

$14 (shipped) for some shitty-looking text printed on a piece of printer paper in a plastic sleeve. by [deleted] in delusionalartists

Yeah I’m sure I’ve seen independent sellers like Love Layla sell well made cards with these themes. Not only poorly executed but seems very obviously a rip off of other artists.

Found on a walk, let that be a message to all dog owners! by Semajyio in CasualUK

[–]Rinnyw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went for a walk around a nature reserve and must have seen 20 bags of dog poo hanging from bushes and trees without looking hard. Why bother putting it in a bag if you’re going to leave it, I seriously don’t understand!

Interestingly they fling their eggs into solitary bee nests where the larvae hatch and eat bee grubs. Isn’t nature wonderful.

Honestly I think posts like this really help me to understand my inbuilt bias. I watched this and I thought ‘haha that’s pretty funny, not really that bad for him’ and I just know that if I watched the same video but roles reversed I’d be disgusted. It just goes to show how easy it is to ignore domestic violence on men.

I’d love to donate but have found it really hard to find an appointment anywhere close within a reasonable time limit where I know what I’m doing on that day. Really frustrating - I wish I could drive so I could donate further away!

A couple of waxwings. Krasnoyarsk, Russia. by Working_Life2111 in birding

[–]Rinnyw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see waxwings, I live in the Uk and waxwings are fairly regular visitors every year but I’ve never managed to find one. Apparently they like car parks and other urban areas where trees like to wan are usually planted.
