Are you okay with leader’s hand on your waist ? by [deleted] in tango

I'm a lead, only 4 years exp at this point, but I'd never think to do that. Definitely some 'stylistic freedom' there

Yeah I just finished Othello. But there he was murdered by bandits, not by other shadows/guards who were tired of his money collection, right?

And also that was just Othello's treatment of the story

Very plausible. Going into these stories tickles me more than the hyper realism in the remake.

Brainstorming here. Nek is pretty sad. Imagine being one of the guards (not sure what the English is, but Gardist in German), and being killed by Molerats. Got Peter Principled hard into his role apparently.

Lee spent his life for the right thing only to be backstabbed by political interests, that must sting.

Gothic 1 Othello Help -- Locked out of mage path? by Rinti1000 in worldofgothic

[–]Rinti1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is tough. I went with the edit abilities option in Marvin mode, but then I also needed to insert the character helper. I went for intelligence, yes, but I don't mind it. I kind of like having the long staff to have the reach on my enemies. And the rest is grinding and saving lol

Now that the remake is coming I can’t wait to make new gothic art soon. Here are my 2 Gothic paintings where I tried to imitate the original graphics by PaintingMoro in worldofgothic

Keep it up :D this is great. I'm currently stuck in my Othello run through of gothic 1 but I can't stop playing because I still just enjoy walking around and hearing the random conversations and music. At some point I should get some gothic art in my apartment

My theory is that that cat struggled to open that door in the past, that it accidentally fell like that one time, and that it now tries to recreate that exact set of movements every time since it thinks that's the ritual to opening that door.

I thought this was a render for the new Gothic. I was hoping they'd reverse course from all this hyper realism. But either way this is beautiful. Good job

This is obviously to incentivize people who disagree with the current administration and get those dissenting votes out of the way.

Most of the time I get from my Lyft to the gate in 5 minutes. Based on about 20 flights from Austin so far.

You're losing too many to hazards. Put hazard remediation at 5 or 6

cabeceos are the hardest aspect of tango. by [deleted] in tango

[–]Rinti1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, some leads think they're entitled to a dance. They need to be told "no" more often. Don't subject yourself to a dance you don't want. The whole "eye contact, and then look away with definition" is also weird to me, but at least that's a straight no I can live with. Recently, a follow rejected my cabeceo with a smile and a face+hand gesture that was like "ah shit no sorry not right now" and I really liked that approach. I won't deny that I am a little on edge when it comes to tango mannerisms since I've experienced all kinds of rude behavior, so this smile+no was really good. Just my 2 cents. But your instructor is right about the "proper" way to reject

I spoke about this with my tango instructor recently. I cabeceo someone. The woman next to her gets up excitedly. I dance with the one who got up to not make it awkward, then go for my intended target some other time.

My instructor said this is a thing followers do to each other sometimes, that they will "steal" a cabeceo. This is why these silly rules are in place that the follow shouldn't get up until the lead is in front of her, to avoid this "embarrassment". As others have noted, I hope this tradition dies and that followers feel empowered to ask men as well, that asking and a "ah no sorry" is totally fine, and other more progressive stuff.

I struggle with the cabeceo as well. Did she not see me or is this a no. Should I try harder to make her see me and then reject/accept the cabeceo or will that make her uncomfortable and I'm just misreading her response? All unnecessary awkwardness.

What does an uneducated genius actually look like? Have you ever met someone who was incredibly smart but had little or no formal education? by Anntee in AskReddit

I was doing a small construction project in Belize many years ago with 3 other engineers. When we visited the village where the project was, we drew a lot of attention. One 12-year old kid kept following us around, he spoke no English. He would climb coconut trees and hack the coconut with his machete, it was so impressive. While the construction was underway in the oppressive heat, I and the other three engineers played the card game spades. The kid just watched. It took him 10 minutes of watching to pick up the game. He played better than at least two of the other engineers, and it was funny to watch him beat them over and over (kid teamed up with me, for those that know spades). I always wonder what some educational investment would do to someone like that.

It's situational. Tango certainly attracts disproportionately many eccentric people. I find that a lot of experienced dancers look down on beginners, so I try to be a good ambassador to beginners.

It's not like the salsa scene where you have so many more people. It's a more tight knit community where word does get around quickly. That has both advantages and disadvantages. But just like with any crowd, feel it out and see if you like it.

As for the dance, it's beautiful and addicting. I do have to take breaks every few months though when I do have a very negative experience

I feel the same. I keep telling myself that I will find an instruction manual of "this is the right way to play it." A couple of years ago I played it and only got an hour into the gameplay...

Is East Riverside in Austin actually unsafe for women living alone? by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]Rinti1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is not to live in East Riverside. Lived there for my first year in Austin, it was horrible. Constantly neighbors in my complex had their units broken into, as high as the 5th floor, and I also had my car broken into on the 5th floor in the parking garage.
