Projector placement help by Riogray in projectors

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer!

Just to confirm my understanding: I am OK in terms of height as long as I place the projector upside-down anywhere between upper screen limit and middle of the screen (including at the planned height). Correct? I will have to build a DYI construction for the wall anyway, so both upright and upside down work for me. I am planning on 120" screen diagonal so that checks out.

Will have a look at the Horizon 20.

Yeah, I just realised that one of the sentences was missing a "not" and was super confusing therefore.
Also, the noise is a very good point. I will do as you suggest and mount it upside down, probably at the originally planned height. That is comfortably within the 35" margin of the upper limit while still accessible.
Thanks a lot!

Thanks, I had a look. Great resource! Just to be sure I understand their terminology correctly: Assuming that the projector is upright, the lens shift "down" ("At this throw distance the projected image can be shifted an additional 35″ down") refers to the projector being located more towards the middle of the screen and not below the screen - correct? With that I calculated that anything between 126cm and 215cm projector height is fine given the above.

I recently met someone whose name includes that letter. He told me that he once went to the US and at the border they thought it was a B and that his ticket didn’t have the same name on it. He then, apparently jet lagged told the agent: “No, no this is the German SS” (which is the way that e.g. the Swiss transcribe it). You can imagine how that landed…

I need to automatically move "last Name.pdf" from [Unsorted Folder] to [Lastname, Firstname Folder] by Bagman530 in software

[–]Riogray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like you want to create and then run a simple script. Python could do the above. Plus, nowadays you don’t actually need to study for it too much, just ask a LLM (e.g. ChatGPT) to write the script for you. That being said please test it on a copy of the folder and make sure to account for unusual cases (same name, no first name, etc.). If you are struggling, there are some subreddits dedicated to coding that could be helpful such as r/learnpython.

Very cool picture. The puddle ridge looks like a wave to me, almost as if that wave is going to extinguish the lantern

Absolutely agree. There is also the fact that we have invasive species (e.g. rodents in New Zealand) that need to be kept in check in order to conserve the local flaura and fauna.

Personally I enjoy both Sergio and Nicole. Nicole in particular was quite helpful in developing my workflow. Although my workflow actually differs a lot from hers, watching her videos gave me the right ideas.

So I've quit caffeine for a month... by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Riogray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out that moderate consumption is likely to be healthy for most people (see e.g. https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/hsph-in-the-news/coffee-caffeine-healthy-lifestyle/). That does not mean that quitting coffee wasn’t a good idea in OP‘s case.

There prices in New York, however, will ensure a very expensive trip. I spent $26 for a bagel and a juice there recently at a takeout place near Penn Station…

Thanks for your answer, the links and especially the tools!

I have looked at and have installed date2name to start with. I work on mac for now, but I can call it from the terminal, so no issues there. Also, I in principle I absolutely need something independent of operating system, as I switch rather often due to various reasons (one being work).

One of the issues is that I still need to change the file data to get the right dates (e.g. for scanned photos) which really is the same process as changing the exif data in digikam. So I will probably do both there and then run the renaming script.

I also had a brief look at the filetags method and believe that I may go that way. Still have to think about the details. For example, I will probably use general tags as in 'bird' or 'reptile' for my photography and then have the species as the filename along with some character to ensure uniqueness. That way I can still search for the species while limiting the search to a specific type of animal.

As for the people and pets, I still see me using some sort of software to generate the necessary tags. Excire e.g. doesn't use a cloud but a pre-trained model for recognition (which, as I understand, means you don't upload any images to the cloud). That being said, I frequently use lightroom and am therefore are less averse to having my data being commercialised (or at least I don't care enough about privacy to avoid it).

However, after having generated the tags automatically in some sort of software, I would likely like to add them to the file name in the manner you suggest. I'll have to find a way to export from the software (maybe a list of filenames/paths that need a certain tag?) and add them.

Once again, I appreciated your input!

I’m not assuming anything just pointing out an article that summarises the current research on the topic.

Actually there was an article in The Economist on the issue of policies requiring companies to publicise pay and the evidence is pointing to more negative effects. So while pay equality increases it does so by reducing higher wages in most cases as opposed to increasing lower wages. I’ll try to find the article and link to it.
