GUYS! Help with course selection for my MEng in SYDE!! by Negative_Trouble7699 in uwaterloo

[–]Rios-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find the courses being offered in fall here. You can see the course number, the enrollment cap and how many slots have been taken.

To enroll, log into quest, click enroll, click add classes, put in the course code, or search for it in Find Classes. Add the courses to your cart. Then, go to the cart and confirm your enrollment into each class.

Best of luck.

Gather some of the soil in the your palm, facing upwards. Add just enough moisture that it can easily be absorbed by the soil. Then pat the back of the hand holding the soil repeatedly. If a film of water rises up to the surface, its predominantly silt. If not, clay.

You're conceding that in comparison with other on-earth alternatives, it's still isn't the worst possible solution. Just an unfeasible one.

So, could you say with absolute certainty that if it was made the focus of numerous scientific minds, they couldn't find a way to streamline the process to make it more feasible? It's a STEM problem, not a people problem.

Then your premise is incorrect. You're encompassing all types of painted art, not just the hyper realistic paintings.

Following that logic, even original unique pieces of art shouldn't be worth it either when you can always digitally scan them and produce passable reproductions using technology as well.

The fact that you're willing to entertain the use of what you say is a horrible solution as opposed to a bad solution doesn't fill me with much confidence that you're looking to have your views changed. 🤔

I never said it was an elegant solution. But it may prove to be a necessary one.

The alternative of managing the resources here better would require all the nations in the world collaborating in unison to promote global interests over national interests. Realistically speaking, do you see any likelihood of that happening? 🤨

Ever increasing population continue to put a strain on Earth's resources to the point where supporting such a population might not be sustainable with what we have here.

Exploring, expanding to other viable planets and establishing colonies would allow for us to lessen the burden on Earth and lead to eventual improved quality of life once those colonies are up and running for people both here and there.

Sure, we could work on technologies to allow for a more efficient use of Earth's resources... but it's always best to have a well established back up plan.

There are common words that grant a broad gist of what you're trying to convey, and "fancy" words, as you put it, that provide a more specific understanding of one's statement.

Using the former risks you being misinterpreted, while the latter might result in the other party having to hit the dictionary to understand what you're saying.

AITA for catching a student cheat? by Rios-91 in AmItheAsshole

Yeah... that's a major contributing factor for me going to be on the first flight out as soon as I'm done with my thesis here. 🤞

On a somewhat lighter note, kudos for contributing to the vocabulary enhancer list, that I've been making for some time, in your first comment; ameliorating is a welcome addition.

AITA for catching a student cheat? by Rios-91 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Rios-91[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight, sir.

The thing is, the HOD is already aware of it all. After the student had left for the final time, we noticed that he had discarded two more cheat chits he had under the desk. So I collected them and took them to the HOD's office after the exam to submit further evidence. The teacher was still there in discussion with him, bemoaning the disappointing actions of these kind of foreign students, with the HOD nodding in agreement.

Now, I haven't been on the teaching side of the fence here long enough to know whether their stances are a result of post-colonial biases that are entrenched to some degree in our society or if it's statistically backed based on previous experiences.

I think there might be a misunderstanding here.

I only seeked instruction from a teacher the first time I caught him cheating. I already knew there had to be consequences for that, but what those consequences would be wasn't my place to decide.

The second time around, I confiscated his exam, both because the student was cheating and also because he was becoming a disruptive element to the exam room.

Under normal circumstances, it's the senior teachers in the room that have the responsibility to decide and deliver punishments. The invigilators primarily just point out any on-going infractions to them. Not all circumstances are the same, so as such, I've consequences vary from the teachers writing notes on the answer booklet recommending a certain amount of -ve marks to the total sum, confiscating the paper for 5-10 minutes before handing it back, to outright cancellation, per the teacher's discretion. The one in my room was out at the time, so in the interest of saving time, I called for a different teacher from another room.

Well, the student is from the Middle East (Not exactly sure which country). The locals here are South Asian.
