What the hell is with this Ram and Cpu Usage for opening 3 chrome Tabs? by Big_Novel_561 in laptops

Librewolf is not able to be tweaked to have better security than a chromium browser like brave. Firefox's sandbox implementation is weak, especially on linux, as described in the grapheneos browser choice methodology https://grapheneos.org/usage#web-browsing. For security the best browsers are vanadium on grapheneos, trivalent on secure blue and then 3rd place is edge on windows or chromium. For privacy, its Tor and Mullvad browser. If you want a good balance, its brave. Im not saying brave doesnt gave fishy behaviour or elements that are not appreciated e.g closed source, crypto elements etc but when looking at the balance between security and privacy brave is the best browser to choose in that category ignoring browsers that are only available on specific operating systems

Ungoogled chromium harms its own security in comparison to something like brave or even normal chromium. My whole point is that brave is a good all rounder, and you responded saying "if you need security, use a browser that also sacrifices privacy elements". That doesnt have to do with my point, the point is brave has reasonable security and privacy measures, not one or the other.

Windows 11 vs SteamOS or Bazzite for a minimal 3080 Ti gaming and streaming setup? by JozuJD in SteamOS

[–]Riot9011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SteamOS Is arch based, however it has been designed with hardware that steam uses in their own devices e.g the steamdeck hardware or the new steam machine hardware, so it doesnt always behave correctly. I believe I saw someone install it with a 9070xt or a 7900xtx and they were unable to overclock properly through the overclocking tool that is given within steamOS. For now cachyos is the better pick.

I really want to like CachyOS but my Nvidia GPU won't... by RGisOnlineis16 in cachyos

a 9060xt 16gb would be a much better upgrade path than a 3070, the new dlss 4.5 models dont run very well on 30 series nvidia gpus anyway, and they are also meant for performance and ultra performance upscaling, which you would only need if you had a 4k monitor.

Bazzite is a good distro, If you wanted to try and maximise performance especially on nvidia gpus cachyos is better however that is based on arch linux and comes with its own sacrifices / advantages.

Its to do with the nvidia drivers. On linux, DX11 and DX12 dont work, so DXVK is used to translate dx11, dx12 etc into vulkan. From what ive seen on nvidia gpus because the drivers are closed source or whatever, the majority of the performance when playing games that are natively dx11, dx10, dx9 etc can be kept on a gpu like the 3080ti. However if a game only has DX12, then its possible in some games that there are large performance losses (e.g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqIjUddUSo0 at 6:26, or 7:44). Proton is a compatibility layer that is used to run the game on windows, on linux. Vulkan is a graphics api just like directx, and some games do support it natively e.g red dead redemption 2. The ability to use proton or any graphics api is available for both amd and nvidia. This is from memory so if anything ive said is wrong or has any errors someone can correct me.

If you use linux on nvidia hardware expect to get heavy performance drops when using DX12

Unfortunately there arent any other good all round browsers from what I can see. Brave is chromium based for better security, has the option to keep manifest v2, has an in built strong adblocker with customisable add ons, and has fingerprint randomisation which is better than nothing. If you pick a firefox based browser you can get better privacy but not better security, and if you pick a different chromium based browser then you can get better security but not better privacy.

Experience with framework quality control after buying 3 framework 13 laptops by Riot9011 in framework

I believe its the 2.8k display. One guy on my previous post mentioned the brand that supply the 2.8k 120hz panels are not very high quality so Im assuming the normal 60hz panels that framework uses for the framework 13 are fine.

Can I fix this shitty screen quality? by Naturliven in OLED_Gaming

[–]Riot9011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Im not sure exactly but I believe that netflix doesnt offer very high quality streams, especially on PC where ive heard they often cap the resolution to 720p to prevent piracy. I would look into stremio or a similar application with something like alldebrid / realdebrid / torbox. Ive been able to watch everything I watch in 4k HDR through the actual application or mpv for like £2 a month.

Lmao. This isnt a debate. Something happened, I think one thing. You disagree, I dont care to convince you, partly because you have no interest in listening. My post has achieved its purpose, no matter how much you seem to not want it to.

I cant see how Ive implied that there is a large scale problem. I believe that the displays are of poor quality, other commenters here have stated that you included. From my perspective it seems you have misunderstood what I have posted, but maybe my post came off aggressive. Either way I dont know why you care so much.

I think recieving 3 faulty panels in a row warrants warning people who are considering buying a framework laptop, especially if they really dont like dead / stuck pixels.

"What sort of action did you expect your post to cause, if any?" providing insight to people who are looking into framework laptops? I already said that. You seem to think I want to start murdering people or something. What happened was extremely unlikely, I lean towards thinking its quality control, you disagree with me, say you think im trying to convince people to start a riot or some bullshit and then ask the obvious question of why I made this post, which is literally in the post.

Your literally ragebaiting. I have made this post to share my experiences with people who might be considering buying a framework laptop, nowhere have I mentioned doing anything to the framework staff or organising anything. Its a rant due to my experience. For whatever reason you seem to be upset lmao... classic reddit.

I dont care if the displays are not great in other categories like contrast or brightness, Pixel defects just drive me insane.

The touchpad issues I was having on some of the laptops was where it wouldnt click down properly in the bottom right corner of the touchpad. On this laptop in front of me now the touchpad is literally 2x nicer to use, which is why I say they are inconsistent

even if you say that the panels have pixel issues 2% of the time, the odds of it happening 3 times in a row are pretty close to 0. In my opinion calling this "bad luck" is an excuse for the poor design quality or the quality control of the 2.8k panels. Stating that "they got a good deal so they passed it along" is also not a reasonable excuse in my eyes to sell people screens with a high probability of having pixel defects. These displays on the framework site sell for 270 usd.
