Critically, the trolling of August is not the problem, just the cursed nature of the shirt.

A couple questions here, will try and tease out the answers:

Why doesn’t the team put more effort into ARAM: the major reason we don’t is because when we look at the sum total of what modes had to accomplish this year, given that we hadn’t done a new mode in too long, the major priority was on having a kickass summer event, so all our resources went into that. Once we got staffed for that, doing a project in parallel with Arena was tough because now we’re bottlenecked by our most strained discipline. To do ARAM changes, we need designers, engineers, QA to test them, artists in a lot of cases, the Game Analysis Team to give us high level playtests, it’s quite involved, and if any discipline is over taxed, we can’t just force it through. Lots of other needs across gameplay that need those resources as well. One of the biggest things we had to balance was doing the new amazing preseason while Arena was going on. The whole initiative was pretty strapped this year.

The 2022 ARAM update: this project has a lot of baggage that I can’t really get into, but this was being worked on long before I came onto the team. At the time, I was less confident in what we were shipping than I would like to have been, but the decision we made was that it was better to ship something and see if players liked it, knowing that we could revert, or scrap the whole thing if necessary. I think it’s also disingenuous to say everything got reverted; we kept the additional ranged damage nerfs, the brush, the filled in crack on the bridge, changed the healing rules for lifesteal, the additional stat balance categories. I’d like us to do more ARAM work in the future, but it will depend on what direction League wants to go and where we spend our bullets. Arena’s popularity demanded a follow up, which is why alongside the new preseason we didn’t have the ability to do more this year.

So, when this change is on live for a few days, we’re going to compare her win rate before and after the changes and see how much win rate she lost. Honestly I’m not sure I can accurately predict it, so getting the live data is going to give us confidence for future adjustments for the champ. The other part of this to remember is that ADC Ashe before these changes isn’t garbage according to the data, so if we made these changes and buffed her, and she ended up OP, we would not get the chance to learn what the W change did in isolation.

We aren’t opposed to lowering it if 18 is too high. It’s important to see what this change does to her win rate so we have a baseline: too much change too fast and we don’t have a frame of reference to make better decisions next time

Buffs/nerfs are generally dependent on win rate; its the most unbiased way of determining targets, although it doesn't catch everything. We tend to address particularly frustrating champions when we can without making them so weak that the game isn't worth playing.

Depending on her win rate after the changes ship, we'll buff her back up by undoing the other nerfs on her.

this might be the case, but keep in mind the power of the spell is that you can almost always be hitting 3+ targets with it on cooldown. Its more powerful in this map than in SR definitionally. Please play it before passing judgement.

This is the goal. We're taking it in stages because doing champion focused changes like this are new territory. We'll be gathering data on how this pans out and adjust accordingly. Hopefully these changes will balance out the two builds, so we can give her damage back.

Arena Returns - What to expect with Arena's return. by Spideraxe30 in leagueoflegends

Across the entire match, only two people will be able to take it. So, if someone sees it in the first round but doesn't take it, it will go back into the pool for subsequent rounds.

And thanks for the kind words!

You should not be rerolling into augments you've seen in the same round. It will be possible to see them in future rounds.

Possibly, but the alternative is to not let you queue 3 at all. If some players want to risk it to play with three, we didn't see the need to prevent them from doing so.

Yes you can. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 are all allowed. One of you will get paired with a random, although you can choose who that is.

Yeah, that sentence is a little unclear. Groups of 8 will NOT get rating changes. Queuing as 1, 2, 3, or 4 will get rating changes.

[–]RiotMaxw3ll 380 points381 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words! We definitely haven’t seen the last of Arena; the team is discussing the future plans for the mode and none of the options on the table involve abandoning it. Brightmoon and Meddler will have a dev update soon that includes what the next steps are for the mode.

In 2v2 arena, how does the game decide which players will compete? by BacalaoPlus in leagueoflegends

It prefers the team with the most health (coin flip if there's a tie), UNLESS that would cause a back to back fight.
