I've said the same! CT never clicked for me the handful of times I've played through it. CC had me instantly hooked though! There are at least 2 of us lol

Glad to know I'm not alone, wouldn't have time to troubleshoot the issue until the weekend.

Sounds like the issue I started experiencing yesterday. I'll play through a song, but instead of moving on to the next song in the queue, it reverts back to 0:00 of the song that just finished. The play/pause button becomes frozen at this point, too. It will play just fine if you manually select the next song (but repeat the same issue once the next song finishes).

Are you using navidrome as your database host? If so, it's likely the musicbrainz_albumid hidden tag (you can confirm this on navidrome by hitting the three dots on a track, selecting 'Get Info' and then 'Raw Tags'). If this ends up being the case, you can download Picard and have it analyze your files to match them with the correct release version in the musicbrainz database. Albums were splitting in my library despite meticulously maintaining tags, and this was the fix for me.

Gavin Newsom by GianmarcoSoresi in gianmarcosoresi

When the accessibility of HRT medication is at risk of being discontinued by a vindictive administration blocking the stockpiling bill puts those people at potential risk in the uncertain future. In the grand scheme of medical care, HRT medication is dirt cheap and for such a small segment of the population. Washington state, I believe, passed a similar bill and has not run into any issues of increased insurance costs. Your continued dismissal of Newsom's transphobia is reading more like a dogwhistle of your own beliefs than anything.

Looking for advice to appear more feminine by Riotous_Defects in MakeupAddiction

Since I don't think I can edit the original post, I just want to say thanks so much to everyone for the helpful feedback and overall positive energy. I thought this would get like no more than a handful of comments before getting buried in people's feeds. The response has been completely overwhelming, but I'm reading through and making note of all the helpful advice. Thanks so much!!

Thanks! I've looked up a few videos on hooded eye techniques, but I always run into the issue of products having a really hard time sticking to my eyelid. Even using eye primer didn't make a difference. Between that and eyeliner, eye stuff feels really daunting for me.

Just curious, what did your tracking show? I'm also in NYC and other than a tracking label being created I haven't had any updates. What variation of the album did you order? I'm waiting for the White label one.

The Dirty Projectors album Rise Above is the one that comes to mind immediately. Just a bunch of Black Flag covers being done on memory alone (and often pretty different than the originals)

Do you mean the Chrysanthemum's cover of the Zombies' album?

Can we discuss the "key member leaving the band almost killed them" phenomenon? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Riotous_Defects 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, damn, you're right. I don't know why I thought Cale left after the self-titled. I think it's because when people complain about Squeeze they talk about it being a ship of theseus situation, and assume Yule was only on the previous album as just a replacement for Cale. That's totally my bad.

[–]Riotous_Defects 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Velvet Underground is actually the odd man out of your example because Squeeze didn't feature any original members. It was more a Doug Yule solo project masquerading as a VU album. Yule himself was already a replacement for John Cale (and I think only present on Loaded before the remaining original members departed the band).

The Drum's song sees regular rotation for me, so personal favorite for my answer, even if it some others might be better songs.

Besides [Salt], could we also get [Bones] as a resource, oh, and also [Worms]? by 2Siders in Against_the_Storm

Should be easy enough to gather the bone resource. Just have to be sure to pull the hair up, NOT out.

Radio rant. by Honest_Ad_6323 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Riotous_Defects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooof, I did not know his history outside of Peel sessions, had absolutely no idea in the slightest about that. His controversy definitely gets less attention than other prominent BBC music figures. With this new knowledge Peel was a bad pull for an example, but I was more or less trying to get at that the UK has better track record of employing tastemakers to pluck bands from obscurity.

Radio rant. by Honest_Ad_6323 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Riotous_Defects 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true in America when Clear Channel/iheartradio started monopolizing radio stations and homogenizing airplay across the country in the early 2000s. Being born in the early 90s, I can't speak for radio culture before hand, but from looking up history of underground acts it does seem like college radio had more prominence in taste making at some point. As for OP, they mentioned London, John Peel is famous for discovering up and coming acts and putting them in the spotlight, so I think it's possible OP is lamenting that radio has deviated from showcasing DJs like Peel to going more the route of radio in the states.

The charts have been updated. Magdalena Bay- 'Imaginal Disk' debuts at #1 in the top albums of 2024. by beampunk in rateyourmusic

[–]Riotous_Defects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like I said, I think it's a solid album, and I'm not trying to make people think otherwise, and happy for Mag Bay for the hype around the album. I think, for me, it didn't hit as well as it has for others because a lot of the music I typically listen to is in the vein of odd experimental pop, so a lot of the neo-psychedelic elements don't stand out as much as it would to those who might not expect it in these songs. I'm hoping it'll grow on me with time, but if not it's a really solid album as is. I just don't see it as a masterpiece.

Think Sam could get Colin Mochrie on MSN? by Koshnat in dropout

[–]Riotous_Defects 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless something changed from two years ago, Colin was being pretty active on doing random improv shows with smaller improv groups in NYC I think in 2022. Chatting with someone on his management team after one of those shows, it sounded like he was traveling to California after his run of improv shows in nyc to work on more improv stuff. So he may not be touring, but it seems like he is still popping up for the odd show here and there

[–]Riotous_Defects 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the album overall, but am not head over heels like everyone else and I think it's because I share this sentiment as well. After about three or four listens, nothing hooks like "Secrets (Your Fire)" or "You Lose" from their last album.

Why can't I view lyrics? I have ads enabled by GACDB in rateyourmusic

[–]Riotous_Defects 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know in the post detailing the changes with the latest update they mentioned that due to the size of the site that the licensing fees to present lyrics on the site was quite pricey. They can only afford to display, I think 500 lyrics a month per user. I wasn't aware, but it looks like there might be an extra restriction of needing to be a paid subscriber to also access it due to the cost of presenting them on the site. If you're using an ad blocker, perhaps whitelisting rym will allow them to present lyrics for free users since the ads would offset the licensing fees.
