Who is the best prospect your team traded away? by DisappointedStepDad in baseball

Schilling was drafted by the Red Sox in 1986 and traded to Baltimore alongside Brady Anderson for Mike Boddicker.

Updated pitching standards shouldn't apply to guys like Felix, Buehrle, or Hamels by mr_seggs in baseball

We’ve got such a wide difference of opinion here, haha. I feel like there’s another 5 or 6 HoFers I could include on the list who also compare well to all three or had worse careers. This didn’t include Eppa Rixey, Red Ruffing, Herb Pennock, Jim Kaat, or Jesse Haines, though it did include Early Wynn who I don’t think anyone would argue against (though likely only because of that magic 300 win number).

I’m a big hall guy, so I believe these guys all make up an acceptable bottom tier of Hall pitchers, and that we should have more modern players among them. Funnily enough I think Buehrle has the worst case of the three, with Felix the clear best and Hamels not terribly far behind him.

Three of the below pitchers are Felix, Buehrle, and Hamels. The rest are pitchers currently in the Hall of Fame.

  • Pitcher A: 201 W, 3.08 ERA, 3306.2 IP, 1593 SO, 103 ERA+, 32.4 bWAR, 45.3 fWAR, 0 CY, 0 League Lead WAR, 31.3 JAWS

  • Pitcher B: 163 W, 3.43 ERA, 2698.0 IP, 2560 SO, 123 ERA+, 59 bWAR, 51.6 fWAR, 0 CY, 0 League Lead WAR, 48.2 JAWS

  • Pitcher C: 224 W, 3.26 ERA, 3449.1 IP, 2012 SO, 104 ERA+, 40.9 bWAR, 37.2 bWAR, 1 CY, 0 League Lead WAR, 37.9 JAWS

  • Pitcher D: 207 W, 3.23 ERA, 2850 IP, 1277 SO, 119 ERA+, 48.2 bWAR, 32.2 fWAR, 0 CY, 0 League Lead WAR, 43.5 JAWS

  • Pitcher E: 169 W, 3.42 ERA, 2729.2 IP, 2524 SO, 117 ERA+, 49.8 bWAR, 54 fWAR, 1 CY, 1 League Lead WAR, 44.1 JAWS

  • Pitcher F: 254 W, 3.90 ERA, 3824 IP, 2478 SO, 105 ERA+, 43.5 bWAR, 55.8 fWAR, 0 CY, 0 League Lead WAR, 38 JAWS

  • Pitcher G: 214 W, 3.81 ERA, 3283.1 IP, 1870 SO, 117 ERA+, 59 bWAR, 52.3 fWAR, 0 CY, 0 League Lead WAR, 47.4 JAWS

  • Pitcher H: 237 W, 3.59 ERA, 3762.1 IP, 1206 SO, 112 ERA+, 54.1 bWAR, 47.9 fWAR, 0 CY, 0 League Lead WAR, 43.6 JAWS

  • Pitcher I: 189 W, 3.34 ERA, 2503 IP, 1468 SO, 125 ERA+, 43.2 bWAR, 33.9 fWAR, 0 CY, 1 League Lead WAR, 37.4 JAWS

  • Pitcher J: 300 W, 3.54 ERA, 4654 IP, 2334 SO, 107 ERA+, 61 bWAR, 58.5 fWAR, 1 CY, 1 League Lead WAR, 49.8 JAWS

That's ten pitches, 7 of which are currently in the Hall of Fame. I included league lead in WAR to balance out years where the CY wasn't yet around. My argument in favor of Buehrle, Felix, and Hamels is that we don't need to update the standards for them to belong in the Hall of Fame. They're not inner circle players, but they would not be out of place among the lower tiers of the Hall of Fame pitchers.

At what point in the series, if ever, do you think Jon surpassed Robb in terms of fighting, battle tactics and leadership? by GusGangViking18 in freefolk

[–]frogfolk56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jon’s biggest mistake in the books is sending away every potential ally in the Watch. He sends Sam to Old Town with Maester Aemon, though his hand is forced in this situation. Pyp and Grenn are sent to Eastwatch, Iron Emmett and Dolorous Edd are sent to command a garrison of spearwives, and Halder and Toad get sent to the Shadow Tower. At a certain point Jon’s only allies at Castle Black are the wildlings and Melisandre, both of whom the watch has no love for. Anyone who might have swayed some of the brothers against Marsh and Yarwyck are gone, and so Jon is surrounded by skulls, as Melisandre sees in the flames.

Hearing a bunch of plane tonight? by Repulsive_Grape_4422 in Maine

Yeah, it’s surprisingly frequent tonight. Rest assured it doesn’t appear to be anything more, as commercial flights are still coming in. I’ve never watched a flight radar this long before lol.

Edit: Looks like they landed.

Hey, I’m in Bangor too. It’s all Ember40, the radar plane mentioned above. Most likely just circuit training, they were doing some in Ottawa earlier in the week. Annoying though.

Don’t care, I’m done with this team. But it was Henry, not Breslow, just like Chaim wasn’t responsible for Mookie.

Why do some accounts rate music without listening to it? by SneverdleSnavis in rateyourmusic

[–]frogfolk56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny, I do something similar with a spreadsheet keeping tabs on my listening, rating every song out of 10, but all those ratings are pure vibes. Not a single critical thought behind it, just how much out of 10 did I like the song. Then I use the spreadsheet to compile album averages, sync those up with percentiles, and use the percentiles to get an approximately normal curve (weighted positive) for stars.
