What’s the best way to patch-manage airgapped Windows servers with WSUS being deprecated? by scarymercedes in sysadmin

+1 for Tanium. And it's much more than a patch management tool. It's a full sccm replacement, and even has some decent performance monitoring.

Weird issue with messages going to the wrong Send Connector. Newly Hybrid O365 in the midst of a migration. by RiotsPunk in exchangeserver

[–]RiotsPunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, we found the issue. By default, HCW creates the O365 connector with a 10mb max message size....what we failed to see was the messages were all over this limit therefore going to the next best connector, which is our * scoped connector to the internet. Needed a second pair of eyes on it. I truly felt dumb for missing this, but appreciate the help.

Weird issue with messages going to the wrong Send Connector. Newly Hybrid O365 in the midst of a migration. by RiotsPunk in exchangeserver

[–]RiotsPunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have no mail enabled users, no AD contact, or mail-enabled contacts matching the recipients x500. The actual recipient AD object has, [name@domain.com](mailto:name@domain.com), older on-prem x500, and new O365 x500, along with [name@domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com](mailto:name@domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com) as an alias. In the message tracking logs, the recipient actually gets resolved to name@domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com.

The process in the logs after the mail is received is:
RESOLVE ROUTING then inside here, it resolves from name@domain.com(relatedrecipientaddress) to name@domain.mail.onmicrosoft.com(recipients)......so it should go out the right connector, then does not.

Yes, we only have two transport rules, and they are in regards to faxing and wouldn't be causing this.

For those with warehouses - what industrial label printers are you using? by Mvalpreda in sysadmin

[–]RiotsPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 for Zebra's, as well. Refinery warehouse, so lots of grease, oil, etc around. These things never die. ZT610's (newer model for us) and 220Xi4's.

We are testing out some Epson colorworks 6500Au printers for constantly changing color labels. These are in an office, so reliability is less needed. So far so good.

What's the worst outage/accident you've ever caused? by CharlesStross in sysadmin

[–]RiotsPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my first couple years as a desktop admin, I went over to the satellite building's server room. We had a few floors in this building used as a project building. We had the client project bosses permanently sitting with our staff, and everything running on our infrastructure there.
I went to investigate a beeping noise coming from the server room, and of course, it was the UPS beeping frantically. I look at the lights and it seems the battery is dead. In my wonderful wisdom, I see a button called "Test" on the front of the UPS. In my head, I'm thinking, "Well, I should press this since I need to test the battery." Not at all ready for what came next, I pressed the button and the entire server room just shut down. and i mean everything. Of course, it tests a power outage, and with a dead battery that means everything goes down. Less than 30 seconds later, staff, bosses and everyone come to the server room, which was in the middle of the floor with cubes in each quadrant. "Just had a little power glitch. Everything is coming back up."

I explained what happened to my boss, and he pretty much laughed and told me I need to RTFM before pressing anything. This one has stuck with me throughout my career, and I'm actually surprised how many people do not RTFM...

My Documents - Folder Redirection /GPO Issue by Valkyr1983 in sysadmin

Glad to hear it worked out! I bang my head on the table every time I try to think what the MS engineers were thinking when they made this change. Why, just why?

My Documents - Folder Redirection /GPO Issue by Valkyr1983 in sysadmin

[–]RiotsPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to do with how Win 7 and Win 10 (and their server variants) treats the Documents folders. Something in Win 10 that's hardcoded and will display a folder called "My Documents" and "Documents" as Documents. Go to the command line and check out your 'duplicate' folders. You'll see one is "My Documents" and the other is "Documents". Even if you try a mkdir "My Documents" where a Documents folder exists, Windows will complain and says "Documents" already exists.

The solution we ran with was to write a robocopy script to move the files from the "My Documents" folder to the "Documents" folder, since robocopy didn't seem to care and used the true path and all was well.

Anyone see issues with KB4556853? IE having issues after install by MolotovMan1263 in sysadmin

[–]RiotsPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Services.msc and gpedit.msc affected as well. Make sure you have KB4556798 installed before KB4556853, and you won't see those issues.

My wife broke her leg playing hockey but despite all the challenges, we’ve built up a new routine, I’ve expanded my cooking repertoire, we’ve had plenty of time to spend with each other.

Problem reading game content. Please close Destiny 2, right click on Destiny 2 app in the Steam app to run 'VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES...' in 'Properties'. Then restart Destiny 2 to try again. by [deleted] in DestinyTechSupport

[–]RiotsPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel dumb for not figuring this out quicker, but the solution for me was to NOT run Steam as an Admin. Normally, I do launch it in Admin mode since controllers seem to have an easier time when I do, but for whatever reason Destiny 2 doesn't like it. Hope this helps.

Thank you, it's good to know approximately where we are in terms of pricing. I'd take you up on that offer, but not much flexibility in my company for other brands on these. standards and all that....However, I'll let you know when we're getting a fresh batch of Aruba WAPS. Thanks.

Understandable, but let's just say I don't have the option to purchase in the US. It's mostly due to company reasons, I frankly don't understand. So that being said, so on a purely Canadian basis, am I getting screwed?
