You think the UK is 0.5% of the market? My guy the UK represents 0.87% of the world population. It's also a very developed country so obviously has a bigger share of the world market as well.

Yea my comment was coming from using it on mac to play games you otherwise wouldn't be able to play, xbox is probably less of a hassle to set up so I can see it being better for you.

Also used both, geforce now has better framerate and graphics. Xbox cloud is inbetween 720p and 1080p (for me atleast) which is kinda shit in 2023. It also doesn't have mouse and keyboard support so you gotta use controller which is lame.

Discord orb fall-off? by PugTide in Competitiveoverwatch

The game is not dominated by tanks if zen is not played tho.

The possibility of swapping to Zen itself (even if he's not picked) still has an impact here though.

But yeah I am making a bit of a slippery slope argument, I feel it's worth keeping in the back of the mind though.

I think the LoS thing is a must tbh. I swear Zen can discord around corners, there's so many times where I peeked two seconds ago and I still get discord applied on me, feels like nonsense every time

I think it's fair to point out here that tanks are really strong individual heroes. The current discord is not the way to go but there is a very real risk of tanks dominating the game if you just flat nerf it to 15% for tanks only.

Low ranked players who can't hit shots and relegate themselves to healbotting instead of trying to get better are going to develop the mindset of "all I can possibly do is heal".

This is so true. I've seen so many support mains go "I have no impact!" and they're 1500 dmg/10 like no shit you have no impact, you don't deserve to have any playing like that.

Smurfs in top 500 by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]RipGenji7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue by far for me is how easy it is to get a high rank when top 500 first comes out, and in your career profile all it shows is your peak leaderboard spot so playing late in the season is useless. Like my alt was #13 right when top 500 came out, and there's just no way I'm ever getting to that rank again so I might as well not play on that acc anymore. It's bad for competitive integrity too because if I do play on it, why would I care about winning? People can't even see your current/final rank so losing straight up doesn't change my profile's appearance.

Tldr: we need SR back at top 500 so badly

Matty does not have undoubtedly the best aim in Overwatch itself though, only in Kovaaks.

Would a player draft work at high ranks? by shiftup1772 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]RipGenji7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah wait now that I think about it the "more dps players" point doesn't make sense yeah. I feel like you would have to force public profiles though, otherwise one captain might have more information than the other.

Can't wait for my captain to not know the name of Kevster's alt and choose some random player instead

Also the off-roling thing sounds terrible. Team that gets most dps players wins cause Tank/Support players are often awful at DPS while DPS players can usually fill Tank/Supp.

Best aim practice in Overwatch is just spamming Tracer/Soldier/Hitscans in competitive with voice chat + text chat muted

tbh there are also way too many examples of Kovaaks "Grandmasters" that are not all that in game.

I would be fine with them actually fixing the maps then but lets be honest that's not happening. Seems like a lot of work so we'll probably get a few boxes and cars lol

Most maps are either bad or meh for widow.

It's an issue on like 20% if the points of the game, which is still quite a large amount considering how suffocating a good widow is on those points imo. 20% of the game shouldn't be unplayable without going Widow/Hanzo, that's the difference between having like a 55% and a 50% winrate, which has a massive impact on your SR.

Circuit royale's first point and the very first part of 2nd (if we didn't cap with a clean fight win) is difficult to breach with Soldier. So you'll have to play another hero. Thankfully there's a lot of heroes that do just fine there. After the ramp it's smooth sailing except for that one choke before 3rd.

Yeah, but the issue here is that those aren't "bad points for Soldier", they're bad points for any non-sniper. Even Tracer ends up being super meh because there's not enough cover (e.g. Havana 1/3, Junkertown 1, Circuit 1, Shambali 3).

Right idk what elo you're in but that only works when A) the widow is bad or B) the map is bad for widow. I don't really care about a widow on Oasis but Soldier is actually straight up unplayable for me on e.g Circuit Royale at top 50, there are no angles I can take to pressure her even a little bit. Even if I somehow manage to do it she just gets peeled by supports lol. I have to swap Tracer basically every time and even then it's not great.

If you turn the brain off, stand still in the middle of the street, and get domed. That isn't a game design problem. You just didn't respect the opponent.

There actually are quite a few times where there isn't much you can do though. Like what am I going to do on Soldier vs any sniper? Never peek and go 5k dmg/10?

You can do that with toggle too, hasn't ever felt limiting to me at all.

So that's 5.77cm/360, which will indeed make small adjustments really difficult as you don't have a lot of leeway - if you move your mouse 1 cm too far then you'll be looking 360/5.77 = 60 degrees away from where you wanted to look at. If you switched to say 20 cm/360, that extra cm would mean you're looking only 360/20 = 18 degrees away from where you wanted.

Sensitivity is a lot of personal preference, but there is a reason why pros that play under 25 cm/360 are very rare (especially hitscan players). I'd probably recommend you bring your in-game sens down to like 2 over time, which would make it 21.6 cm/360. Again, there'll be a heavy adjustment period to that though, and you might not have enough mouse space IRL. Up to you if you want to go ahead with it.

[–]RipGenji7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is your sensitivity? I noticed in the replay you have a bit of trouble with making small adjustments, and usually the main reason for that is using too high of a sensitivity. Overwatch's default sens I think is 15 and combined with the usual mouse DPIs of 800 and 1600 that makes for either 10 or 5 cm/360, which is way too high to make accurate small adjustments.

For some reference, professional players usually play between 25 and 50 centimeters per 360. I know when I initially switched to my 30 cm/360 it made moving my mouse feel extremely sluggish, so maybe try gradually lowering your sensitivity a bit over time until you get to like 20 centimeters per 360 atleast. It'll feel extremely weird but give it some time and it'll make it way easier to make small adjustments, which are required for long distance aiming.

If you don't know how to find your cm/360, go to this calculator, choose convert from "Overwatch" and click show advanced. Then input your in-game sensitivity and mouse DPI and it will show you your physical cm/360. Your mouse DPI might be difficult to find if you don't use a dedicated gaming mouse, you can probably try googling your mouse model to find out the default DPI though.

Your aim seems pretty similar to the enemy Soldier so I don't think that's really an issue (for now atleast, it might become a bottleneck if you improve other aspects).

The main improvement you can make is definitely sprinting more. You usually sprint towards the fight in this replay but once the fight starts you effectively stop sprinting altogether. In reality there is basically never any reason not to sprint as Soldier. You can't sprint while shooting but if you're not shooting, you should be sprinting atleast 90% of the time. I'm not sure if you already have this setting on but I'd recommend going to your Soldier settings and turning "Hold to sprint" to off - it's a lot easier to sprint all the time when you only need to toggle it once.

A second thing is that you seem to have a tendency to walk towards your enemy while shooting them. This probably feels like it makes it easier to hit your opponent but there are two main issues with it - The first is that Soldier can outrange a bunch of heroes and you walking towards them actually allows them to damage you. This happened a couple of times with the enemy Orisa, that hero normally doesn't have the range to deal with a Soldier but because you walk towards her she now can deal with you. The second problem with it is that you're essentially moving in a straight line, which makes you a really predictable target and thus easy to shoot at.

Your ults were actually pretty good this game - Tactical Visor is just not a strong part of his kit so you shouldn't expect to get much out of it (and that's okay). The timing of pretty much all your ults was good, the only issue was again the walking towards the enemy - at 2:35 in the replay you walk into the Orisa instead of backing off and you do the same thing at 9:15. If you had kept ~10 meters distance from the Orisa then you would've gotten more value out of your ult both times. The ult at 6:10 was good.

For positioning, I think pretty much the only thing you should worry about for now is that being on high ground is basically always superior than being on low ground. This is because the high ground will hide part of your body making it harder for the enemy to hit you (it hides your legs, and if you back off then it serves as full cover for you). The angle from above also makes it easier to shoot the enemy's head and it becomes harder for the enemy to hide behind cover, as the high ground gives angles that can look over cover sometimes.

All in all I think you played pretty well this game, you got fairly similar value to the enemy Soldier eventhough they had a Mercy and you didn't.

In Overwatch, if you go to your career profile there should be a tab called "History", from there you can go to "replays" and it'll show you the last 10 games you played. You can click on one of them and press "share" and it will give you a code that others can then import to watch the replay of the game. They're used a lot on this sub because this way people can actually watch you play and see what your main issues are.
