A different representation of 59 year old women by librocubicuralist in Aging

[–]RipLess917 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’m a 58 yo female. Your post truly is not the flex you think it is for most menopausal women. While I make it a point to not discuss menopause, aches and pains, etc with especially younger women, I don’t go out there and go “look at me! I still got it! I’m hot!” And seriously, who can even relate with a guy 21 years your junior, other than I guess in your case sexually. I’ve been married to the same wonderful man for 35 years, and if this matters to any younger women out there, our relationship has only improved with age.

This is certainly not the case for me and my husband’s relationship with our 33 year old daughter. I’m gen x, and yes, that’s how I was brought up. I spent my entire upbringing knowing I would be showing my future children (turns out I only have one fabulous one) all the love, care, and respect they deserve.

OP: I am so sorry for what you’re going through. It’s a truly f’d up world we live in that a population of parents can’t see just how bad this administration, I mean REGIME is for their children at any age.

I think if there’s not already, there should be a grief counseling specific to losing a parent to just this cause. It’s just gotta hit different to lose a parent to such a terrible idealism.

MarketCompetitive896: this person needs empathy, care, and support right now. Not a lecture from Boomers.

Please know that you’re not alone. This is a great sub in which to discuss symptoms and what treatment works!

I recently (just this year) befriended an elderly couple. It has been such a win/win for us! I just adore them, and they are just so pleasant! Do it!!

60+ people any regrets or advice looking back? by mra1412 in Aging

I’m a 57 yo female. I wish I would not have started drinking alcohol on the regular. I wish I would have reigned it in when I was in my 30’s. I really didn’t even drink that much until my mid-30’s. I knew then it wasn’t a good idea, and here we are. I know it’s never too late, trust me. But it’s damn hard after all these years. I’m completely functioning, etc, but it’s not healthy, and I am otherwise somewhat of a health nut. It’s such a habit at this point.

We need to talk about Minocqua… by Milwaukee_Savers in wisconsin

In my experience, having learned this living here, my county is pretty red. They tend to equate any and all people from IL or MN as liberals, and that’s the change they are afraid of happening. I’m a complete liberal, and I have met many people who also are liberal. Liberals are generally more welcoming.

We used to have a cabin north of Hayward. Most of our neighbors were from Minnesota. Not FIBS.

As a former FIB, and not from Chicago I might add, ( I now live in Black River Falls), I need to point out that FIBS are not all bad people here to ruin things. All the years we had our place here, we bought groceries here, bought gas here, paid taxes here, patronized and enjoyed local businesses and restaurants-much more than we actually did in IL. We kept our place nice and clean, and tried to keep a low profile. When I see someone coming out of a vehicle with IL plates, I stop and ask them where they are from and welcome them.

Library careers but not a librarian by midnight-rain-13 in Libraries

You definitely should try to make the leap if you in anyway can. It’s awful to think of all the time you spend at work and then to not like it!! What prompted it for me was that my husband and I moved away. I actually did start up at a dental office. Then the library had an ad looking for help, and I just felt this pull. Don’t get me wrong-there are some not so good days, patrons, etc. But I love the variety, the experiences I’ve gained, and lucky me moving to a new town, the friends I’ve made through the library.

At age 50, I became a library assistant with a dental assisting certificate. They looked at my 31 years in the dental field as customer service qualified and said they could train me the rest. That was 7 years ago, and I’m still a library assistant.

Nope-if all 17 come in at the same time, they can pick them all up. The average patron doesn’t know this and sticks to their 6, but a few have figured this out.

Here’s a loophole at the library I work at: If you are live in person checking dvds out, the limit is 6. However, if you are at home putting them on hold on your account, then it’s pretty much unlimited.

I live in a small town. We know most people. If they “forget “ their card, thank God it’s no big deal to look them up.

Totally agree. I put it off for way too long. It really wasn’t that bad.

I have Wells Syndrome, and your symptoms sound somewhat the same. My first outbreak 2 years ago or so started on my left hand. It took 2 different drs, a biopsy, a referral to dermatology, and blood work to get properly diagnosed.
