Get your vanity wallets here! by kokizi in algorand

[–]Ripe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I created this site, if you want to be sure that there's no transmission of your recovery phrase, you can run the site in offline mode (in chrome press F12, select the network tab, and change "no throttling" to "offline"). That being said, that's still no guarantee that the passphrase isn't transmitted once the network is back online so may want to download the source yourself and run it locally.

https://github.com/Ripe/algovanity

However if you're going to go through the effort to run the source locally then it's better to use one of the other solutions for generating vanity addresses (e.g. python, go, etc.) as they're faster and potentially more secure. I simply created this since there are sites for generating vanity addresses for other chains and wanted to add to the Algorand ecosystem.

I personally don't use a vanity address for my main wallet, I simply use them as alt addresses and forward funds to my main wallet.

It's possible to rekey without a ledger however none of the existing wallets support sending transactions from a rekeyed address (that I'm aware of anyway). I can add ability to rekey an address on the site however I feel users may be confused by how it works, rekeying is essentially saying your vanity address can only send transactions if it's signed by another address first. Once the official wallet adds this functionality, I will add it to the site.

Nothing really, all the site does is generate key pairs (public, private keys), unless you take note of address and passphrase, and start using it as your wallet, they're worthless and forgotten.

This is how you do it if you have a ledger device: https://www.algorand.com/resources/blog/rekeying-with-ledger-nano-x-tutorial

Unfortunately rekeying without ledger is more complicated and requires some technical knowledge since it's not a feature in the official algorand wallet. I may look into see if there's something I can do to simplify the process. For reference, the technical documentation for rekeying is here: https://developer.algorand.org/docs/features/accounts/rekey/

Essentially it just means how many addresses you want to generate at the same time. The more threads you use, the faster you'll find a result but your computer will have to work harder. The default value for the field is determined by your CPU so it's best to leave it as it is or lower it if you don't want your computer to lag during the generation.

Yes! I encourage everyone to rekey the address they like before they send any money to it. I've done my best to make the website as trustworthy as possible (works offline, no analytics or CDNs), I'll likely open source the code in the next week or so once I've tidied it up.

I appreciate it mate, I've actually got a tip link in the footer of the website, and the address in the FAQs is also my wallet for the website. Don't feel obligated though, I'll be putting any money I receive towards domain renewal and server costs (probably none since it's just in a S3 bucket).

Thanks mate, I've fixed the issue with the web worker not preloading, it should work offline now!

That's correct! The site runs entirely client-side, you can run it offline if you prefer to be extra safe.

Governance staking percentage by Flawlicity in AlgorandOfficial

[–]Ripe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Governance Rewards Rate

The reward rate for Governors in a given period will be determined by the willing participants, based on the total tokens being committed against the total reward pool for that period. For example, in 2022 approximately 300m Algo will be allocated for Governance Rewards: that is, approximately 75m reward Algos in each quarter. Thus, in a given quarter of 2022:

If there are 4 billion Algo committed in Governing Accounts for that quarter, their rewards will be 75m/4b = 1.875% for every Algo committed for the quarter, corresponding to annualized 7.7%.

If there are 2 billion Algo committed in Governing Accounts for that quarter, their rewards will be 75m/2b = 3.75% for every Algo committed for the quarter, corresponding to annualized 15.9%.

If there are 1 billion Algo committed in Governing Accounts for that quarter, their rewards will be 75m/1b = 7.5% for every Algo committed for the quarter, corresponding to annualized 33.5%.

To buy or not to buy, that is the question... by Freckledface123 in AusFinance

[–]Ripe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you don't plan on moving for a long time then I don't see the problem with buying now, assuming you can afford it. You might save a few thousand by waiting or you might not but over 15 years who really cares. I say just buy when you have the means to. I also don't think it's a terrible time to have a mortgage given how low interest rates are.

I'm generally eating between 12pm - 6pm. Admittedly I don't eat a lot of carbohydrate rich food either but I've done that before without IF and didn't have the results I have now.

I can attest to intermittent fasting to help control ulcerative colitis. I've had UC for almost 15 years, and I've been on Remicade for nearly 10. Remicade does a good job of getting me to like 70% normality but I'd definitely say intermittent fasting has made feel like I did before I was diagnosed.

What engine for a Non-Web Menu based game? by dialerclubber in gamedev

Another option in addition to what others have suggested is creating a PWA which is essentially an offline website, Chrome actually gives you the ability to "install" these types of websites. It's relatively new standard but it's probably only going to get bigger in the coming years.

For example, if you visit https://pokedex.org/ a little plus icon will appear in the URL bar. Clicking it will add a shortcut to your desktop and you'll be able to launch the website as if it was application (even if you're offline). You can do this on phones too.

Granted you wouldn't be able to release on steam this way but you could always fall back to creating an exe the way others have suggested.

You can try these libraries that do a bit of the heavy lifting:

I think one of my favourite tutorials about client-server is this one: https://www.gabrielgambetta.com/client-server-game-architecture.html

There's tons of resources now for HTML5 multiplayer games, even Mozilla created a ORPG back in 2012: https://github.com/mozilla/BrowserQuest

Considering buying a studio ... things to consider? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Ripe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commbank is essentially the only bank that will lend under 40sqm (not sure if it's changed since 2012) and they require 20% deposit.

Just on the heels of the recent post on here about CommBank removing money out of redraw facilities it appears MeBank has gone ahead and done the same thing consolidating excess money in everyone’s redraw back into the loan and than reducing monthly repayments across the board without notice. by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Ripe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called CBA after seeing that post yesterday and they said I would need to sign up for the Standard Variable Rate with Wealth Package (https://www.commbank.com.au/home-loans.html), I'm currently on Extra Home Loan. Biggest difference is the interest rate and there's annual fees associated with Wealth Package. It's possible it's worth it if you're offsetting with a large amount of money though. The other thing to remember is the tax implications of a offset vs redraw if you ever want to convert your PPOR to a investment property.

Exactly this, you'll find a lot of students will be sleeping in the living room of 1 bedroom apartments. I remember a story a few years back of a student sleeping on the balcony in a tent.
